No, I'm not saying Oprah has anything to do with quality control, I think people are misinterpreting me. I'm saying she basically forced her hooks into the PatF production like she does on everything else she decides to take an interest in, whether it serves the quality of the product or not. I'm saying that kind of thing waters down the integrity of the film just being a film.
My main point was that this mentality is being carried through the new Iger regime and hurting the notion of letting the animated films just be their own entity. Which does not bode well for Tangled. But to be fair, yes, this crap was going on years ago with the "Disney channel Circle of Stars" popping up on the Platinum Editions.
PS And I never said she had anything whatsoever to do with the success or failure of PatF, I think someone suggested that after my OP and the thread derailed from there. It was a minor aside I was making.
Edthehyena, those films you mentioned are not as remembered, were not as successful, and did not win as many awards as the more traditional Disney fairy tales.
This film needs to be more successful than those!
Also, Tangled does not sound like a Best Picture nominated film...

I don't think that Up, Bolt, Wall-E, Toy Story or Monsters, Inc. sound like Best Picture Nominations either, and yet they were.
I'm sorry, I highly doubt that calling this movie Tangled rather than Rapunzel: Unbraided would severely damage box office sales. Honestly, I feel like it could only help it. This movie is not the classic Rapunzel story so it should not be named as such.

Are we talking about the Annies or the Oscars? Because Beauty and the Beast and Up are the only animated films to be nominated for Best Picture, FYI.
Patrick, no I meant to call it Rapunzel which was what Glen Keane always wished it was called, then it was finally called that when actual production started, only changed to Tangled at the very last minute.
Are you forgetting they said they changed it to appeal to boys, not because it was that different from the original story? So far everything about it is as classic as the past Disney fairy tale features except in one character's background and it's a little more humorous.

Actually, no, that is not true. The full story of "Rapunzel" has a fair amount of story BEFORE and AFTER the tower. That said, I understand what you are saying, I really do, but still disagree with Disney's choice in doing so.

Tbf, I doubt that this would happen. Everyone calls Aurora simply Sleeping Beauty because she is the beautiful girl who slept. The title of the film explains what she is (just how the title of the Lion King refers to Simba, or the Little Mermaid means Ariel), and it's probably somewhat easier to memorise/feel comfortable with considering that she has two names in the film; I have been known to refer to Aurora, especially among non-Disney fans, as simply Sleeping Beauty. If anything, I think that they'll say "the girl from Tangled".

Moore: Pretty much. She has an overprotective mother who tells her she's not missing out on anything, and it's a big bad world out there and it's too scary and dangerous and she'll be eaten alive, literally, if she decides to venture out into the world.
MTV: What was your reaction to Disney changing the film's original title, in an effort to lure in more young boys?
Moore: I think I was initially a bit taken aback, only because people know the story of Rapunzel, so when you say you're working on "Rapunzel," it's sort of a no-brainer, you don't have to explain it to people. But as the title sort of sunk in, I understood the decision behind changing it. The movie is so great and so cute, and people are going to see the trailer and know what the story is about. I guess you sort of have to leave it up to the brains at the top. They know what they're doing.
Yea, the "brains" that decided to call what is the traditional Rapunzel story the name Tangled.
Edthehyena, I know the twist was aliens and outer space for Treasure Planet, and the twist was cats and dogs and modern day for Oliver and Company. Can you please tell me what is the twist for Tangled that is like those, that is as twisted as those, that is not like past Disney fairy tales?
Especially when Mandy Moore, voice of Rapunzel, says it is really traditional and close to the original story.
