Your Disney Story (Introductions Thread)

Well, I'm 31 and was born-and-raised here in the Hoosier State.
Have pretty much been a Disney fan for life, but it really took off after the release of the Little Mermaid.

I'm married and have a daughter that turns three at the end of September who is a HUGE Disney movie fanatic.

My other obsessions in life are as follows:

-Philadelphia Pro Sports teams (esp the Phillies and Flyers)
-Baseball Card Collecting
-Siberian Huskies
-Basketball
-Fishing
-Golf

I'm Evan and I'm 15. This is only about my 3rd post, but I'm a long-time reader. For me Disney is sort of a secret pleasure (only one that everyone knows about) because Disney isn't really something a guy my age "should" be enjoying. I've loved Disney since I was born (101 Dalmatians was my first exposure) and I'm sorry to say that my parents and I are still in the stone age: we don't have a DVD player! But I'm content with my VCR (for now). It's actually still kind of useful because there are so many great Disney videos out there that aren't on DVD yet. Yesterday I went to Giant Tiger and found a whole bunch of Winnie-the-Pooh Learning videos, the Haunted Mansion video collection, and Aladdin's Arabian Adventures videos for only $6.88!
Anyway, this is getting a little long so I'll cut it off here. Let's just say I'm a huge Disney fan and it's a disgrace for me not to have a DVD player (I'm dying for House of Mouse Box Sets and the Platinum Beauty and the Beast)
Oh, and my fav movie is Beauty and the Beast-that should explain the Prince Adam.

Seriously, do whatever you need to do to get one.
Save up for it on your own or have a discussion with the folks as to what you need to do to get one. You have no idea what you're missing!

Quality issues aside, the extra content on these CEs, SEs and Platinum Editions is extraordinary.

A lot of people feel that way during their teen years and that is really too bad. Its good to see that you are not denying yourself things that you love, like the magic of Disney! Welcome to the board!

Wal Mart has DVD players for around $50!

This could also be used to clear up a few misconceptions, such as gender assumptions

Well, I could add the modification that lets you display gender, but I think that's a little tacky.

So we can just PRETEND like we know everyone's gender.

By the way, this is a terrific thread and perhaps I should leave it stuck at the top for new people who are inclined to give their story and read about the rest.

I am a 21 year old male in full time school and love what Walt Disney brought to this world. I do feel that he would be discouraged with some of the choices that have been made lately around disney. My first disney movie theater memory is 101 Dalmation Re-release in 86 or 87 i pretty much saw all of the movies after that. I have all of the gold collection, paltniums, Valut(special), and many others...oh i also have all the treasures but DC

. I have been to Disneyland around 10 times and Disney California Once. I feel so fortunate to live only a few hours drive. It has been nice reading about you other disney fans.

I'm Marianne and I'm 21 years old. I grew up a Disney fan and my love for the movies and for Disneyland has not ceased, and I don't think it ever will. My whole family are big Disney fans, which is nice because I know I'll always have someone to watch a movie with.

The first Disney movie I remember seeing in the theater is The Little Mermaid. I thought it was the greatest movie ever and collected a lot of Mermaid things-pajamas, dolls, a lunch box, sleeping bag, etc. What can I say, I was little girl. And I saw most of the all of the ones after that up until Mulan. But we also had a lot of the old classics on tape- animated and live-action. I remember the very first VHS we bought was Mary Poppins. So I grew up loving them, and I think I love them even more today.

I also LOVE Disneyland. It's my favorite place to go, and we pretty much always go on vacation there. A really happy and joyful feeling comes over me when I'm there. I tell some people that and they think I'm corny, but I know some of you will understand.

On another note, if any else, like me, likes to collect Disney posters check out moviegoods.com. I was lucky enough to find original posters for Swiss Family Robinson and Summer Magic. They're in pretty good condition and at a really decent price. They have many live-action and some animated. I know I've seen The Love Bug, Pollyanna, and others on there.

I totally agree with the warm feeling thing

. Only I go to Disney World because it's only an 8-hour drive for me while Disneyland is about 2,000 miles away. I would like to go there one day at least to see California Adventure.

Hello, my name is Terry, and I'm a Disney-addict!

I'm 31 years old, and have always been a fan of animation. The first Disney movie I can remember seeing in the theater is the Rescuers when it first came out and then Pete's Dragon and the Black Hole. There may have been some before that but I can't remember them all. When I was very, very young my parents used to take me to the drive in movie theater every Friday and Saturday night, dusk til dawn shows, so I saw a lot of movies!

I also enjoyed the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights and the Mickey Mouse Club on weekdays. They were all reruns at that point, but were new to me and very often had Mickey Mouse cartoons. I had a stuffed Mickey, still do only in worse shape now, and a plethora of Mickey toys and games. But of course as one grows up, they tend to stop with things like that, but in my case they simply stopped airing those shows!

I enjoyed their cartoons in the 80's like Duck Tales and some of the series later on. But, when I went on a date in 1989 and took this girl to see the Little Mermaid, I was really wowed at how good the movie was!

When home video started I didn't buy many video tapes, I copied them or taped off of tv. Then laserdiscs started getting more popular and available, so I got into them since they had better quality and extras. I bought the Snow White box set and was absolutely amazed! I purchased other sets when they came out as well. Of course when the DVDs started I upgraded. Not at first, as they were expensive and had no extras, but when they started with the two discs, then the mania began. I started finding the Gold Releases cheap at Sam's Club and started picking them up too. Around that time I did a search online for a guide to Disney DVDs and found Luke's page! Thanks, Luke!

What really set my Disney obsession off full throttle was a trip that I took 4 years ago. I am a huge Star Wars fan and have met most of the cast. I heard that Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) was going to be at the Disney MGM studios in Florida. So, yes, I decided to go there for her! I always wanted to go, my parents always promised us as kids but it never happened. They always thought that it would be too expensive and prior to that year, never made it there myself, so I went.

I ended up not getting her autograph the first day, so I waited in the parking lot all night long until noon the next day. 12 hours at least! I got pics, a hug (woohoo!) and two signatures on my LD box set! I was extremely happy!

But in the process of doing this, I discovered the most amazing place I have ever been to, Walt Disney World!! I have been back every year since then and most likely will continue going. For all here who haven't been there yet, I suggest you check it out. Once you do, you will never be cured of this insanity!
