Toy Story 3 Blu-Ray/DVD out Nov. 2, 2010 Discussion

When I say that DVD is a major improvement over the previous formats, I'm not talking about pixels. With DVDs I never had to rewind anything or flip anything over like I did with the previous formats. I could also watch films in several audio tracks and be able to turn subtitles on and off. Blu-ray doesn't add anything over DVD than a few more pixels.

I must likely will not be getting Toy Story 3. I didn't get Cars and Ratatouille because they had sub-par DVD releases. I have other things to spend my money on than a half-assed DVD release.

Boo to no 2-disc DVD, we should have the option so that everyone can enjoy the extras, regardless of format, is what others here seem to be missing.

But I think we can all agree BOO to no Big Baby on any of the covers! Baby deserves a spot more than that dumb purple octopus at least.

You were talking about resolution, right? That's measured through pixels. Blu-ray gives you the possibility to get as close as watching it in a good theater as possible, with image that's fairly close to the 2K worth of pixels used for the standard Digital Intermediate movies use, and audio that's exactly the same as the original sound mix. DVD doesn't seem like a big step either, when you account for all the revolutions previous formats made before. Laserdisc had subtitles, and had in fact better audio than most DVDs had, included extras, had chapters. So basically the only improvement DVD had, was the fact you didn't always needed to change a disc, it was a lot smaller, and the anamorphic enhancement.

I think I'll hold off until the 3DBD. They have no excuse not to release one, even if I don't have a 3DTV it will just display it in 2D and when I do get a 3DTV it will display in 3D.

It's ten discs because Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are each three-disc sets (1 Blu-Ray, 1 DVD, 1 Digital Copy), while Toy Story 3 is four discs (2 Blu-Rays, 1 DVD, 1 Digital Copy)

That giant Target Buzz pack looks like a waste, to be honest. Who wants to bet It's just the regular DVd inside a panel behind the box? of course, they had ridiculous Iron Man and Batman head-packages that actually opened up to contain the DVDs, but I skipped getting them for Target for just that reason.

^ if you can play dvds on your laptop, you can rip them.

I wanted digital copies too, but now I got something better. I downloaded blu-ray rips. So now I have HD versions of them on my hard drive. (and of course I own every legit version out there, so don't anyone lecture me on it not being legal, Ive paid more than your average person has for these movies)

Yeah, it's the idea of it. Why rip something illegally when Disney could have just provided DCs for free? It's pointless. I would not illegally rip the Toy Story movies anyway, but at the very least I would want DCs to match the others that I have in my itunes library. How hard is it for Disney to just include a dumb promo code? You don't really need a whole disc to get the DC anyway, it's just a code you redeem at itunes (where they have all 3 Toy Story films currently). So dumb.

Actually I believe its no longer illegal to bypass encryption to rip a dvd yourself, thanks to a law passed recently.

Though what I did is still technically illegal, its not meant to be distributed, which is how I obtained it.
