Does anybody here actually like Michael Eisner?

Post by snowbot »

Just wondering! I used to like the guy, I even read his autobiography a while back. I actually found it intriguing, and would recommend it (for educational purposes, if nothing else). Of course, now I can't stand him, and can't wait for Disney to get some stinkin' new management. It's kind of sad to think that my childhood Disney TV viewing consisted of Eisner introducing the Disney Sunday movie. I'm kind of jealous when Leonard Maltin talks about growing up with Walt, and I grew up with Eisner. Sheesh!

I voted for he was good for a while, but it's time for the boot!
At Disneyland opening Captain EO, Star Wars and Indiana Jones Adventures. During his welcome he had ups and down animated classics.
The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Mulan, Hercules, Tarzan, Brother Bear and The Emperor's New Groove. Along with the five Pixar films that made a ton of money.
The bad things are that he lets Cheapsequels past!!!
Good Grief why do they even have to make sequels so cheap!!!
Failure of Michael Eisner is Cinderella 2: Dreams come True.
The New TommorrowLand and opening of Mickey's Toontown.
The Birth and Death of The Disney Afternoon.
The Birth and Death and Birth again of TGIF on ABC Fridays.
The sucking California's Adventures man what was Michael Eisner thinking about that resort I guess fast bucks!
I really don't hate Michael Eisner but he is screwing up Disneyland and not even caring about thinking of making it better.
Will the real Michael Eisner please step down?

I definitely don't hate him, but he has more than overstayed his welcome. I actually hold a soft spot in my heart for Eisner, as he was the real-life face of Disney for us (snobot, I'm jealous that we didn't have Walt as well) and we grew up with him. You also can't deny the contributions of the majority of his tenure (though much of it can be attributed to Frank Wells). He's simply run his course, and it's time for him to go. The way he's handled everything this year has been distasteful, and the last 10 years of Disney have been blundered at his hands!

I think you'll find the majority voting for "Liked him for a while, but time for him to go," but there are a few here who still support him.

Oh, and I'd love to read his autobiography!

I wasn't very into the the behind-the-scenes, management aspect of Disney until when Eisner started getting bad publicity and by the time I got to this board, most people wanted him to go . . . by the way, why do people call him Einster? Just curious. Anyway, since I didn't dislike him before, I guess you could say I liked him, but now I think he's doing more harm than good, and so I voted option 2.

I think Eisner's biggest problem is... he's got far to much money. He may be a driven man, but what incentive is there for him to "perform well" other than pride?

He doesn't need to amass more money. He looses his chairman role, but does he care? Not really. I would guess he's on the same money, and even if he's not he doesn't need anymore money - he can take a pay cut. He won't suffer any hardships.

Eisner did do a lot of good for Disney. To say it was all Wells is wrong. After all pre-Eisner Disney was running things the old way, and spectacularly failing.

But I think Einser needs to go because the enthusiasm has gone, and when enthusiasm goes, decisions become mechanical.

Eisner was an excellent CEO when he was only CEO. He was very well complimented by Frank Wells when he was president(or what it the other way around).

Things seemed to go downhill when Wells was killed in a helicopter crash and Eisner became the superboss.

So I will go with overstayed his welcome
