They're not one of the smileys that comes with UD, Luke got it from another site:

http://inthetrees.net/images/smiles/mob.gif

UD does have this emoticon, though:

But there is no code for it, so in the rare times that I've had to use it (mainly when dealing with the banana-dollar exchange rate for when apes take over the planet), I have to link it rather than use a  code.

Hi Amy!

See? Now you've opened this thread to see me saying hello to you instead of the emoticon conversation!

But to make it The Black Cauldron related (though I'm sure someone might have already posted it in the past 23 pages), Amazon has a low-quality picture of the back cover. The back!

Image

If I'm reading it correctly, the special features are listed as:

New! The Wiches' Challenge Game
New! Deleted Scene: The Fairfolk
"The Quest For Black Cauldron" Game
Short - "Trick or Treat" cartoon featuring Donald Duck and his 3 Nephews
Still Frame Gallery

Of course, we already knew all that (and the trailer's supposed to be included as well). But it's the back cover! The back! Something for cover fanatics to look at when they're tired of the front! :P

Thanks, Albert. I was so excited when I saw a picture, but as you said, it's nothing new. :p But I appreciate the effort. :) :)

*Sigh*
The Black Cauldron is one of my favourite Disney films, no blu-ray no dice though.

I just noticed this DVD is up for pre-sale on Disneystore.com for $14.99. I think I'm going to pick it up, it's definitely not a downgrade.

I wish Disney put more passion into making the Black Cauldron. It had the potential to be brilliant.

Yeah, it does have a lot of redeeming qualities. Does anyone think there is even the slightest chance this will end up on Blu-ray in the near future or is the DVD the best we're going to get for a while?

Would Disney have to do additional clean-up and restoration to the film to prep it for Blu-ray or would they be able to use this same DVD restoration?

For the tenth million time: NO! There's not going to be a BluRay for this title until all other titles have been released on BluRay!

Honsetly, why do people KEEP asking this about every non-platinum title?

I'm asking what others think about the possibility, not looking for a definitive answer. I'm well aware that The Black Cauldron is not the cream of the crop, but with Disney having just restored the film for DVD, I'm sure there might be a slim chance of them throwing it on Blu-ray in the next few years to try to squeeze out a little more money from the title. There is probably a better chance of that happening than them sitting down again within the next 10 years (if ever) to really shine it up for Blu-ray.

I apologize for asking for the 10,000,001 time, though!

I'll get it if they ever get the guts to release it uncut. :P

Disney Movie Club put this up early and I just received my copy. I'm too tired to post pictures, but I will try to do it tomorrow. I was surprised that my copy didn't come with a slipcover. New releases through the club usually have them, so I wonder if Disney has finally listened to Escapay and left it out of this release. The deleted scene is 9 and a half minutes long and uses a mix of rough animation and storyboards with the original audio elements and score elements from elsewhere in the film. The new game is a mix of answering riddles and finding hidden items. It kept me occupied for about 10 minutes and wasn't as stupid as other DVD games that Disney has made in the past.

The real reason to upgrade of course is the new transfer. I haven't watched the film in it's entirety, but I jumped around to a few scenes. The excess grain is gone and I didn't notice any flickering like I did on the Gold Collection version. It looks MUCH better than recent restorations on films from the same era, like The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company. I'm surprised to see how much care was given to this film vs. others that have proven themselves as top sellers for Disney.

The trailers found on the disc are mostly the normal ones being put on everything right now. The disc opens with Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Beauty and the Beast and the same Tangled teaser. From the menu you can also find Prince of Persia, Oceans/Crimson Wing and A Christmas Carol. I'm surprised that Disney auto plays trailers for more girl-oriented releases on a release that skews more towards boys. I think they missed an opportunity to promote Tron: Legacy on this disc.

The case is pretty flimsy because it's made from recycled plastic. Inserts include a DMR code and an add for Disney Blu-Ray. The annoying Dylan and Cole Sprouse Blu-Ray promo and the "How to take your digital copy with you" featurette are redundantly added, even though there isn't a Blu-Ray or digital copy version of The Black Cauldron available.

I'm really happy that I decided to double dip on this release. The restoration alone makes it worth shelling out $15 (Amazon's sale price) and I was able to pick this up for $8 with the current DMC promotion. The added deleted scene and game in addition to the previous bonus features definitely make this re-release a worthwhile upgrade for fans.

Dah! You are so very lucky to have gotten it over a month in advance! T__T
I'd do anything to have gotten it this early... This is one of my favorites of all time..

Please, if you get the chance, post some pictures of it! I'd really appreciate that! Thank you!

Also, I'm really hoping that when its released it will have a slipcover, it looked as though it would be getting one in the cover art to me?

Yup. This is my #1 reason why I'm getting this release. I got a soft-spot for this movie as it was the first first-run Disney DAC I saw in the theater when I was a kid (the very first movie I ever saw in a movie theater was The Jungle Book during its early 80s re-release)

If they have, and they're looking for more suggestions, they can e-mail me at EscapaytheFirst@gmail.com :P

(It's "theFirst" because someone else acquired "Escapay" for their gmail name before I did)

I think it got such a great transfer because it was restored (and anamorphic) for an R2 France DVD re-release some years ago. IIRC, the movie is quite popular there (though not on the scale of other DACS) and so $$$ was actually shelled out to pay for a new restoration. I may have read it on UD years ago (I'm 83% certain there's a thread in International DVD comparing the old TBC DVD to the then-new one) or I'm probably confusing movies. It's like how R2 France also got a two-disc Peter Pan in the early 2000s, with some content that hasn't made it to R1 (the Nine Old Men documentary and the 1924 silent film, though that was made available by Kino Video).

Awesome sauce. It's nice to know all the bonuses are still included (trailer, gallery, "Trick or Treat", Quest for the Black Cauldron game).

I still wish a little bit more effort could've gone into this release. Even paltry less-than-10-minutes EPK's are better than nothing at all. Oh well, there's always Blu-Ray.
