I hate how now they have "e-tickets" where you print them out on your own. Going to a concert isn't complete with a ticket and a stub to save in memory from the experience! Now I just have a bunch of crumbled print outs....boo.

I saw Hanson on their Use Your Sole tour. The opening acts were Sherwood, Steel Train, and Hellogoodbye. I really I enjoyed all the opening acts but didn't write down their setlists. Hanson's set was as follows:
  • 1. World's on Fire
    2. Great Divide
    3. Runaway Run
    4. Where's the Love
    5. If Only
    6. Running Man
    7. Georgia
    8. Been There Before
    9. Something Going Round
    10. Carry You There
    11. Penny & Me
    12. A Song to Sing
    13. Happy Birthday (it was Zac Hanson's birthday)
    14. Use Me Up (Zac Hanson solo)
    15. These Walls
    16. Watch Over Me
    17. Thinking of You
    18. Waiting For This
    19. Crazy Beautiful
    20. A Minute Without You
    21. Mmmbop
    22. Rock N Roll Razorblade (Fan-voted selection)

    Encore
    23. Don't Stop Believing (Journey cover -- Zac Hanson vocal solo, accompanied by band on instruments)

My friend and I had a great spot in the general admission, standing-only club... we were only a few feet from the stage. The entire concert ran nearly 6 hours! Great show. I've updated my concert list at the top of the thread.

anddddd I made an update to my list. Or will shortly.

I saw Stone Temple Pilots at the fair last week. Not a bad show for $10 fair admission. I enjoyed it.

and next week at the fair, unfortunately, I have to see Raven. Yes. THAT Raven. My moms took my niece to Demi Lovato AND Miley Cyrus this year, so I owe her one.

I just got back from two incredible concerts over the last week or so: Hanson and Aerosmith. I updated my first post in this thread and setlists are below.

Hanson and their opening acts put on another incredible, nearly SEVEN HOUR LONG concert, this time on the Shout It Out tour. Delta Rae and Rooney opened (really liked both their sets and got to meet both as well), but I don't have their setlists. Hanson's set was as follows:
  • 1. MEDLEY: Waiting For This/Watch Over Me/Rock 'N Roll Razorblade/In The City
    2. Make It Out Alive
    3. Thinking Of You
    4. And I Waited
    5. Minute Without You
    6. Great Divide
    7. Carry You There
    8. Use Me Up (Zac Hanson solo)
    9. These Walls
    10. This Time Around
    11. Me Myself and I
    12. Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’
    13. Where’s the Love
    14. Been There Before
    15. Oh! Darling (The Beatles cover)
    16. Penny and Me
    17. Get Up and Go
    18. MMMBop
    19. Give A Little
    20. Dancing In The Street (Martha and the Vandellas cover)
    21. If Only

    Encore
    22. Man From Milwaukee

A few nights later, I saw Aerosmith in Tampa, FL on their Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock Tour. Blue Öyster Cult opened but I ended up missing pretty much their entire set. Aerosmith played the longest show I've ever seen them play. Steven Tyler was really feeling the crowd energy and decided to keep extending the concert beyond the planned encore. The band literally played until the arena cut off their mics because they'd passed the noise curfew! Here's their setlist:
    • 1. Train Kept A Rollin'
      2. Love In An Elevator
      3. Falling In Love (Is Hard on the Knees)
      4. Livin' On The Edge
      5. What It Takes
      6. Pink
      7. Last Child
      8. Cryin'
      9. Joey Kramer Drum Solo (incredible! He played with his bare hands and his head)
      10. Come Together
      11. Joe Perry's Guitar Hero Joe
      12. Stop Messin' Around
      13. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
      14. One Way Street
      15. Sweet Emotion
      16. Baby Please Don't Go
      17. Draw The Line

      Encore
      18. Dream On
      19. Walk This Way
      20. Toys In The Attic
      21. Milkcow Blues
      22. Walkin' The Dog

List updated:

Clint Black (this was during the One Emotion tour...like 94/95? at the fair)
Tim McGraw w/Faith Hill (also at the fair a year or two after)

after that it gets a little foggy until...

Evanescence (2x) - Aug 2003/Oct 2006 (...I actually missed the chance to see them again, but I didn't want to see KoRn)
A Perfect Circle/Mars Volta - Mar 2004
Tempe Music Festival (Sugar Ray/Cake & many others) - Apr 2004
Michelle Branch - Apr 2004 (this was during the college tour that they did...we drove 2 hours to NAU which is in her hometown. Pretty awesome.)
Joe Firstman (2x) - Apr 2004/Aug 2005
P.O.D - Jun 2004
John Mayer/Maroon 5 - July 2004
Norah Jones - Oct 2004

and I cant find any ticket stubs for the next two years after that (unless listed)

Deep Purple - Aug 2007 (they were awesome...and LOUD!!!)
Iron Maiden - Memorial Day 2008 (absolutely amazing, mindblowing experience)
Taj Mahal/Keb' Mo - Jun 2008 (free tickets)
Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood - Jun 26 2009 (I was 13 rows away...he looked at me <3!!!!!)
Stone Temple Pilots - Oct 18 2009 (a fair show...I had a good time and it was only $10)
Raven (as in That's So...) - Oct 28 2009 (because I owe my mom one for taking India to both Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus this year. =/)
KISS - Dec 1 2009 (Had 2 tickets, but ended up going alone. No one I know likes KISS, I guess. I enjoyed it A LOT though, even alone. Buckcherry opened and I would say they were in the Top 5 WORST bands I've ever seen live.)
Iron Maiden/Dream Theater - June 17 2010 (Saw Maiden again this tour. I really sprung for way better seats this time. They were awesome even though they mostly played songs for newer albums which I'm not as hot on. It was awesome either way. Dream Theater was never a band I really listened to, but I enjoyed their set well enough.
John Mayer/Owl City - 8/18/10

There are a couple concerts I had tickets for that I didn't use too...

Fozzy - May 2004 (couldn't find a ride...and they weren't free tickets) :(

Judas Priest/Black Sabbath (with Dio)/Motörhead/Testament - Aug 2008 (my friend forgot which day it was on and took the wrong one off...they were free though. This kills me to this day since Dio passed away recently and I blew my one chance to see him.)

Scheduled for this year:

KISS - 9/24/10

I got all these tickets for $10 a piece thanks to Live Nation, so I'll suffer through Owl City. Ugh.

Concerts I've missed already this year I'm pissed about/acts I need to see:

Jimmy Buffett
Elton John/Billy Joel
Fleetwood Mac
Rush

Aerosmith
ZZ Top
Dropkick Murphys
Flogging Molly
The Donnas

U2 (Way way way out of my price range though)
AC/DC
Judas Priest
Black Sabbath
Motörhead

Garth Brooks (Still hoping to get to Vegas one weekend when he's there. I went to Vegas, but I missed him by like a week again.)
Santana (Having a residency in Vegas as well, I'd love to go)
Jack Johnson (I heard all his tickets are capped at $50 a piece and I really like him)
Eagles

How was the concert 7 hours long, Aaron?!?!?! My mind is blown. Definitely jealous...they didn't come here on this tour, but I'll see them at Epcot in November.

Yeah, the U.S. leg of this tour is somewhat limited, but then given that there wasn't supposed to be a U.S. leg at all, I guess that's not a surprise. I had to travel a ways to see them this time, but it was worth it, especially since my ticket to the last tour was refunded following Steven Tyler's injury.

Is he only playing in Vegas now? Still retired from touring?

The doors opened around 6 or 6:30 and the first band took the stage shortly thereafter. I'm not sure exactly what time it ended, but it was nearly 1 a.m. by the time we were back on the road. Granted, there were lengthy breaks in between each set, but still -- what an incredible night of music. I wish more concerts had that kind of endurance. There was a full one hour break in between Rooney and Hanson but to Rooney's credit, they warned the audience of the long break before they left the stage (I wish that happened more often too). I didn't mind the break at all, though -- I got to mingle a little, meet some of Rooney and Delta Rae, and rock out to an extensive collection of relatively obscure Aerosmith songs that played in succession during the break. I don't know why so much Aerosmith was playing, but it was great. I wonder if Hanson chose the songs -- I noticed that Isaac has been mentioning them as a musical influence for the band recently.

Yeah, he only plays a couple weekends a month max. Here's an article I found about it on Google:

Wynn announces dates for next Garth Brooks shows

By Amanda Finnegan (contact)

Monday, June 14, 2010 | 10:35 a.m.

Tickets for Garth Brooks' next 20 performances will go on sale Saturday, Wynn Las Vegas announced today.

Fans of the country music singer can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster’s website or by calling 1-877-65-GARTH beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets cannot be purchased in person at the Wynn box office, Wynn Resorts indicated today.

Brooks’ next series of dates are Sept. 10-12, Oct. 1-3, Oct. 22-24, Nov. 5-7 and Nov. 19-21. Ticket prices will stay at $125, plus taxes and fees, and will be limited to four tickets per purchase.

Tickets for Brooks’ first two series of performances sold out within hours of their release in October and again in February. Following the release of the first set of tickets in October, Wynn Resorts Chairman and Chief Executive Steve Wynn instituted an unusual anti-scalping procedure that angered fans and ticket brokers alike. The resort demanded the name of every concertgoer for each ticket purchased and said tickets could be picked up only on the day of the show, with photo IDs being checked at the door.

That policy is still in place, according to a press release from Wynn Resorts.

Brooks will return to Las Vegas on June 25 for a set of weekend performances. He’ll return again July 16-18 and Aug. 6-8.

The country music star announced he would be coming out of retirement for a five-year stay at the Encore Theater in October. Brooks began his first performances in December.

Well on August 24, 2010, I saw Maroon 5 on their Hands All Over Tour with opening acts VV Brown and "American Idol" winner Kris Allen. This was my second time seeing Maroon 5 -- the first was in the fall of 2003, before Maroon 5 had much of a following. It was very interesting to compare the two concerts, with the band having now risen to the tops of rock-pop stardom. The show was on a small college campus in a small venue with small crowds. That all surprised me but there was still plenty of energy, and we had great seats.

I didn't know much about VV Brown before the show (I was vaguely familiar with her one big single) but she wasn't at all what I expected. She wasn't exactly bad, but stylistically, she was all over the place. I was kind of put off by the whole thing. Because I don't know her songs, I didn't take down her set list.

Kris Allen was great (I'd supported him on "Idol" so it was cool to see him in concert). Here's his setlist:
  • 1. Can't Stay Away
    2. MASH-UP: Heartless (Kanye West cover) / Gangsta's Paradise (Coolio cover) -- This was so awesome
    3. Alright With Me
    4. The Truth
    5. Red Guitar
    6. Written All Over My Face
    7. Man in the Mirror (Michael Jackson cover)
    8. Is It Over
    9. Live Like We're Dying
    10. Come Together (The Beatles cover) -- This was the third consecutive concert I attended this fall that featured a live Beatles cover (and the second consecutive cover of this particular song)
Then it was time for Maroon 5. So cool to hear EVERYONE singing every word to every song. Their set was as follows:
  • 1. Misery -- Current radio single, cool to hear it performed during its moment in time
    2. Never See Your Face Again
    3. Harder to Breathe
    4. Give A Little More -- Had just been released to iTunes days before the show
    5. The Sun
    6. Won't Go Home Without You
    7. If I Ain't Got You (Alicia Keys cover) -- Phenomenal
    8. MASH-UP: Secret / What's Love Got to Do with It (Tina Turner cover) -- Also phenomenal
    9. She Will Be Loved (Acoustic version) -- This song's never sounded better
    10. Wake Up Call
    11. Shiver -- Wake Up Call flowed immediately into Shiver, which was awesome
    12. Stutter -- New song... it's GREAT
    13. This Love

    Finale
    14. MASH-UP: Another One Bites the Dust (Queen cover) / Makes Me Wonder -- another awesome cover/combo
    15. Sunday Morning -- One of my favorite songs and the perfect closer
Going through the setlist gets me excited for the show all over again. Excellent show!

(I updated my initial post in this thread with this concert.)

The Kansas State Fair has a gigantic final weekend planned for entertainment. Those who really want to see Selena Gomez in concert will pleased to know that she is closing out the Fair next Sunday night, September 19.

The fair opened this past weekend with Foreigner, and last night we went to see Terry Fator, the ventriloquist who won America's Got Talent two years ago and has been packing them in in Las Vegas at his own showroom.

What is really good is that a ticket to the concert also includes admission to the fair.

Went to Seven Clans Casino in Oklahoma to see Heart in Concert. Tickets were only $25 and they were the only ones on the bill. They played for over 2 1/2 hours and didn't miss a hit. The tour is in support of their new album "Red Velvet Car", and Heart hasn't skipped a beat in the last 10 years. Ann and Nancy Wilson are great show people, and including all the encores they really played nothing but the hits. Opening the show with "Bebe Le Strange" and ending the show with "Barracuda". When they came back for their encore it was the best of all the cover tunes they have done over the years including "Love Reign O'er Me", "Misty Mountain Hop", "Black Dog", and "Rock and Roll". It was truly one of the best concerts I have seen in the last 10 years.

A couple of weeks ago my son-in-law and I went to Heart live in concert in Oklahoma at a Casino in Newkirk. They were on support of their new album "Red Velvet Car" and they played for just under three hours. They were the only band on the slate to play, and they didn't disappoint. Opening the concert with "Bebe Le Strange", and after closing with "Barracuda", they returned for an encore that included "Love Reign O'er Me", "Misty Mountain Hop", "Black Dog", and "Rock and Roll". For just $25 it was money well spent to see one of the best Rock and Roll groups playing right now.

I've seen a few shows since last posting here and have updated the first post in this thread accordingly.

First, I saw Delta Rae open for Rooney and Eisley. The band was nice enough to comp me with press tickets and I attended for a review. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to stay for Rooney and Eisley's sets. You can read more about the Delta Rae show and about this fantastic band in general in an article I've written here: http://www.aaronwallaceonline.com/?p=680

Next up, I saw David Gray on the Lost and Found tour, in support of his Foundling album. I've wanted to see him for a long time and it was well worth the wait. This was billed as an acoustic concert but it was only slightly stripped down and subdued; I found it a perfect arrangement for his musical style. Opening for him was Lisa O'Neill, a very talented but unsigned Irish folksinger/songwriter that Gray found from a coffee shop and handpicked as his opening act. I loved the show and can't wait to see Gray again, hopefully in a "regular" (non-acoustic) setting next time, for purposes of comparison.

Here's the setlist:
  • Opening Act: Lisa O'Neill

    1. Foundling
    2. We Could Fall in Love Again Tonight
    3. Lately
    4. The One I Love
    5. Holding On
    6. / 7. From Here You Can Almost See the Sea / Davey Jones' Locker
    8. Kathleen
    9. Fugitive
    10. Nemesis (with extra verses)
    11. You're the World to Me
    12. This Year's Love
    13. My Oh My
    14. Only the Wine
    15. Flame Turns Blue
    16. White Ladder
    17. Babylon (audience sing-along at the end)

    Encore
    18. Shine (impromptu performance)
    19. Alibi
    20. Sail Away
Finally, I saw Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith this week. It was the kick-off performance of the second leg of their very successful, sold-out 2 Friends Tour. I saw them at an outdoor venue and had a private dining table in a very nice, raised, covered VIP seating section. There were dining options and restrooms exclusive to this seating section, as well as a waiting staff, so it was one of the nicer concert experiences I've had (especially for an outdoor, summertime show -- something I'm usually not fond of). The meal included sweet potato waffle fries and funnel cake fries! Delicious! The concert itself was very good, featuring substantially more of Grant than Smith, but I suppose that makes sense for several reasons. The highlights for me were those songs that I'd never had the chance to see Amy perform live before.

Here's the setlist:
  • AMY GRANT SET:
(*Michael W. Smith accompanies on piano/backup vocals)

    1. Stay for Awhile*
    2. Everywhere I Go*
    3. Find a Way*
    4. Sing Your Praise to the Lord*
    5. Takes a Little Time
    6. Saved by Love

Thought I would update this as I now have officially purchased tickets to Dave Matthews Band (May) and Fiona Apple (June). I'm extremely excited, as these are two of my favorite artists and I have not yet been to either of their concerts.

My friend and I also plan on getting tickets for us plus another friend for his birthday to go see Foster the People, Kimbra, and Tokyo Police Club in Philly in June, and my other friend and I are debating going to see Lana Del Rey in June as well.

Should be a busy summer for concerts, and I am ecstatic!
