I read somewhere that when TSA and "Inception" were screened to test audiences, they both got solid B's. What changed between test screenings and the actual release to cause such contrasting public/critics response to these movies is a mystery. But yes, I too thought it was very enjoyable, though it kind of dragged in parts, especially after the introduction of Drake Stone. Jay Baruchel is a very sympathetic lead, and I even liked Nicolas Cage. Mop scene was a fantastic homage to "Fantasia" - anyone else noticed Dave wore a read hoodie, kind of like Mickey's robe in the original segment?

And reading this discussion, I find there was a post-credits scene?! Would someone be kind enough to recap/spoil it for me? Thanks in advance!

I think it's Balthazar's place or perhaps a hat shop and there is a Mickey Fantasia hat and then there's a hat that I believe belongs to Horvath, and this darkness comes up and picks up the hat so I think it hints that Horvath got away and may be planning revenge though due to the unfortunate flopping this film did I don't think the sequel is going to happen unless they do a DTV sorta thing but even then thats pushing it. Although I enjoyed this Film a lot. It was quite better than I expected it to be....

I saw the movie last night and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, though it was by no means ground breaking. I did have a few issues with it or rather things I felt could have made it a much better film:

While the backstory of Merlin and Morgana was fun, I really wished they had utilized Yensid instead of Merlin and shown Belthazar as a young boy in a flashback recreating the end of the Sorcerer's Apprectice where Yensid cleans up Mickey's mess and takes the hat away from him. It would have been a good way for him to connect with his relationship with Dave. showing that he too was a very green apprentice once and had a lot to learn.

I did like the mop scene as a nice tribute thought I wished they had kept true to the orchestrations a bit more. And having Belthazar descending the stairs as he stopped it would have been another nice nod at Fantasia.

I agree that Becky's character was fairly pointless. It would have been nice to have a little backstory to her - like having one of her parrents have been a sorcerer or maybe one of her parents was killed by a sorcerer when she was young but didn't really know it was magic that killed them. Something to show she has had a brush with magic before would have made her quick acceptance of it easier to undeerstand.

Also, the end kind of left me hanging with Dave and Becky flying off on the eagle and Belthazar and Veronica left in the street. What are these 3 Sorcerer's to do now with their power? Especially Dave? His mission of defeating Morgana is over? What is he to do with his newfound powers? Is he just gonna keep on going on joyrides to France? These characters have lost their purpose - at least until someone pen's a sequel and there's a new evil to battle. I don't know - just kiinda felt empty to me.

Other tan my gripes (which are all fairly minor) I feel it was a decent, fun fast paced film that I will most likely end up buying. Though like I said, I don't think it's quite the movie of the year.

Thanks! I did wonder what the heck happened to Horvath after he got electrocuted. It's good to know they planned some sort of wrap-up for him, even though we may never get to see it.

Anyone find it interesting that the film will be released on DVD and Blu Ray around the same time as the "Fantasia" films? Seems like some great cross promoting there, huh?

Anyway, while not my fav this summer (that would be "Toy Story 3"), it was a much better film then the fate it has found. I'm really sad it did not do better, I enjoyed it.
