I am waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big of a wimp to actually ride a legitimate roller coaster. If I sucked it up and just rode one, I'd probably get over my phobia.

Closing in on the big 300!

My official "track record" is now at 269 coasters ridden in 53 different parks in 19 states.

Of these 269 coasters, 61 are wooden (my favorite!), and 208 are steel.

My favorite wooden (and overall fave) is Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT. This coaster is built on a wooded mountainside, is extremely long, and has INSANE amounts of airtime (both floater and ejector) on nearly every hill. The airtime was great in both the front and back seats. The night rides I was able to get on this on a nice, cool, autumn evening, riding over and over again because there was hardly anyone in line, speeding through the pitch black mountainside while getting launched out of my seat on nearly every hill, was the most sublime experience I've ever had in all my years of coastering. I've embedded a front seat POV video below.

My favorite steel is Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. This is a "hypercoaster" designed by B&M. Hypercoasters (especially by B&M) are my favorite type of steel coaster, because they mimic the elements of wood, but on a much larger scale. No inversions or annoying positive g's or restrictive horsecollar restraints. It's all about drops, speed, lapbars, and airtime. Insane amounts of airtime! In the back seat of Apollo, I was floating out of my seat the whole way down nearly every hill! The front seat had less airtime than the back, but still had some, and of course has the perfect view. I've been on three B&M hypers and they are my top 3 steel coasters, but Apollo is my favorite of the three (the others I've ridden are Goliath at Six Flags in Atlanta and Raging Bull at Great America in Chicago). I have NOT been on Nitro yet, which I think will give Apollo a good run for it's money. I hope to make my first visit to Great Adventure and ride it later this year.

I do not count, or keep track of, traveling carnival coasters I've ridden. However, if a coaster has more than one track (even if the park "markets" it as one attraction), I count those as two coasters ridden. (such as Space Mountain Alpha, Space Mountain Omega, Gwazi Lion, Gwazi Tiger, etc.)

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August, 2005, it had taken my entire lifetime to get up to 101 coasters. Since then, I've been able to do more traveling than I used to, and nearly tripled that amount!

The Raven is the only wooden one I've rode, but the most thrilling and intense coaster I ever rode was Diamondback. Now that was a coaster!

It's actually a wonder I ride roller coasters now, because I used to be a coward about rides that even went somewhat up. Not anymore!

When Nitro first opened, I was too terrified to go on it, it was that daunting to me. And I haven't been to Six Flags since...2004, I think. So I haven't had a chance to do Kingda Ka yet.

Now up to 279 coasters ridden (65 wood, 214 steel) in 54 different parks in 19 states, after my first-ever visit to Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey on my fall 2010 park trip.

Nitro indeed squeaked past Apollo's Chariot to take my number 1 steel spot. Revisiting Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia moved it up to my number 2 steel, with Apollo falling slightly to a respectable 3rd.

Boulderdash retains my number 1 wood ranking, but revisiting the Boss at Six Flags St. Louis reminded me how amazing that ride is, as well.
