Alice on Blu-ray?!!! Fantastic news...now I'm really glad that I never bothered with the Un-Anniversary Edition. Fingers crossed we get lots of new stuff with Kathryn Beaumont on this new release. :)

Disney Duster wrote:Disneykid, really, the newest version is your favorite of any Alice cover artwork ever? My favorite's the Masterpiece cover which has a better logo and even captures the atmosphere of the film. I also think other VHS covers are better. I even like the Gold Collection one more. Is it your fave because it fits in the most characters, while also keeping your favorite character front and center (quite literally...)? But the previous covers feel classier to me anyway.

Haven't watched it yet but who knows maybe tomorrow, I'm thinking about watching it tomorrow!
It's my favorite cover because I feel it represents the film the best. The Black Diamond and original Masterpiece Collection covers focused on the Mad Tea Party. The Masterpiece Collection re-release and Gold Classic covers focused on the trial. The Masterpiece Edition cover was excellent, but I didn't like how tacked on the White Rabbit was, and while the cover wasn't scene-specific, I still felt its focus was a little narrow. The Un-Anniversary cover is a big ensemble shot not unlike the original poster artwork, and this film IS known for its big ensemble cast. I usually prefer group shots that aren't scene specific.

My favorite cover art for the film before the UAE actually wasn't an American one, but this European one:

If the 60th anniversary decides to drop the UAE art, then I'd like for them to do something reminiscent of this.

And just why haven't you watched this, yet, hmm? Now's as good a week as ever. The film turns 59 on Wednesday. :P

I like it. It's very reminiscent of the climax when Alice is running around all of the places she's visited in Wonderland.

I think I would like that cover if it had the American more professional polish and slightly better arrangement. It is excellent in fitting lots of characters without feeling too messy or over-crowded. Yet I still like the Masterpiece Edition best.

My goodness Disney Duster, you never seem terribly happy with anything Dinsney produces ... :( and as for your complaint about the main character being left of center, on the Cinderella DVD, Cindy has her back to us !

Disneykid, I have that VHS, and its one of my favourites as well :) Though my ultimate favourite is from one of the old posters for the movie, I'll try and find it now :)

I hope they use Katheryn a lot on this edition of the film; I'd love a proper, sit-down chat with her, where she speaks of all of her experiences of the film, rather than having the odd soundbite in a making-of.

! I said I like the Masterpiece cover! And Cinderella's makes sense because she is still in the center, she doesn't have to people pushing her to the side but is sharing the center with one other person.

But you are right, she should have been facing us. I just heard she was hard to draw and maybe they were trying to appeal to boys more.

But on that note Disney lately isn't doing such good things, the greatest thing so far is the Fantasyland Expansion and it was great when they had Rapunzel but now it's Tangled so, see why I'm upset with them?

Disney Duster, I'm not trying to be rude to you or anything, just your posts do seem terribly negative lately, and I was just wondering as to the cause of it ? Even in the Theme Park thread, you arnt entirely happy with what Disney is doing in the FantasyLand Expansion anyway ? As for Tangled, I think this is going to be a wonderful film; you cant deny that fact with so much wonderful new footage coming out, and all the immensly positive test screenings. I'm willing to give on the name; if it gets the film a wider appeal and it does huge numbers at the box office, we should hopefully see more films like it. And that is something I wouldnt swap for anything.

And more on topic ....... the film itself is called 'Alice in Wonderland', so essentially, it has two starring roles, Alice and the place she visits.I love having all the wonderful characters she meets on the cover with her; I dont think it works as much when she is alone. I want colour, vibrancy .... :)

I'm guessing whatever new content for the Blu-ray was prepared at the same time as the new content for the Un-Anniversary Edition.

I'm very excited for this release as there is such potential to have a really definitive edition of this movie with relatively little effort.

Please don't forget about the Achieve Edition Laserdisc material Disney.

Well Atlantica, I think you said very good, right things about all of that, and agree on a lot, but I still love, love the Masterpiece cover, and I know that the Tangled name is a slap in the face to the Disney legacy.

Yeah, it seems like it. I just did a YouTube search for "Alice in Wonderland 60th," and the first thing that comes up is the trailer posted by HighDefDiscNews 12 hours ago. When you click it, though, it says the video's been removed by the user. Hmmm....

Your searching has just finished, Heartless.

I've posted both trailers in my website: (Disney has really removed them from Youtube, but I downloaded them before)
http://www.animatoons.com.br/alice-no-p ... -rei-leao/

They're hosted there, so Disney will take a little time to remove them (if it decides to remove)

Talking of Alice's Blu-Ray, I have to say it's the one I'm waiting the most for 2011 (with the King's pardon), because of its wonderful colors.

My review copy of James and the Giant Peach arrived today, and I was able to view the trailer in glorious HD. The image is so crisp that you can see dust on both the cels and backgrounds. Something peculiar I noticed is that the Mad Hatter and March Hare's clothes have slightly different hues. The Hatter's coat has gone from olive green to more of a yellow green, while the Hare's coat has gone from reddish orange to flat-out orange. I guess this means either the restoration was redone for the Blu-ray, or they took the 2004 one and tweaked the colors slightly. I'll be making screencap comparisons later this week.

Oh, and I'm glad to hear Disney mention "never-before-seen bonus features." I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Cine-Explore with Kathryn Beaumont and the missing laserdisc features (which technically aren't "never-before-seen," but whatever). I found a really nice article written by Walt about the making of the film. It'd be neat if they had their current Walt voiceover impersonator read it for a featurette while production photos and artwork are presented.

Is it possible that the HD transfer just more accurately shows the colours used in the 2004 restoration? I know reds, for example, seems to differ between the two formats.

Without screencaps I can't be sure of the degree of the differences. I'd have to look them up.

Well, its more likely an HD version of a trailer, not footage from the actual Blu-Ray. The existence of Cel Dust and Cel Scrawl would seem to indicate it isn't a new Blu-Ray restoration, but from an older source.

Yeah, probably. Disney frequently uses footage from older sources for their trailers, so it might look different in the end.
