Here's how I see it happening:
Fantasia - 2-disc DVD
Fantasia - 2-disc Blu-ray + DVD w/Blu-ray packaging
Fantasia - DVD + 2-disc Blu-ray w/DVD packaging
Fantasia 2000 - 2-disc DVD
Fantasia 2000 - 2-disc Blu-ray + DVD w/Blu-ray packaging
Fantasia 2000 - DVD + 2-disc Blu-ray w/DVD packaging
Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 in a 4-disc set with "Fantasia World".
I'm thinking in order to get "Fantasia Word" you're gonna have to buy the big set, which is gonna be kinda like the Fantasia Anthology.
Maybe they'll be some sort of new trailer with an actual date on the Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray when it comes out in October. AND, it's about time for some freakin' cover art!!
I'm sorry but I'd strongly disagree.
Disney just aren't going to release 7 different products for 2 films - even if the
Fantasia films were going to sell as many as
Beauty and The Beast, there wouldn't be enough demand and revenue, or at least need to release this many Blu-Ray discs.
Fantasia has such a defined audience that the trailers weren't even placed prior to Blu-Ray menus on recent releases; only accessible through the 'Sneak Peaks' menu.
Just look at
Beauty and The Beast, which is now available to pre-order. The only buying option available is the 2 x Blu-Ray discs and the DVD, with a choice of 'BluRay' or 'DVD' packaging, and this is for their most requested film to date. They're trying to push Blu-Ray as much as they can; even by suggesting that a product which has a DVD case is, remarkably, the same price as one with a Blu-Ray case. Outstanding!
Fantasia will be released differently in various regions. Germany have already confirmed separate Diamond Edition releases, but I would have thought the most popular distribution would be;
-Fantasia (2 x Blu-Ray + DVD)
-Fantasia 2000 (2 x Blu-Ray + DVD)
-Fantasia 'Box Set' (2 x Blu-Ray copies of the film, 2 x DVD copies)
And the extra content? Although the separate releases will have dedicated discs, I don't believe the 'Box Set' will contain any of the expected 'new' special features. I believe that, as the article posted previously states, all of the past featurettes will be placed on the BD-Live service, but if you want the extras disc, buy the film separately. At the end of the day, I would suggest that the 'Box Set' will be nothing more than a good valued product for those who just want to see both films, and have the option of seeing them on either Blu-Ray or DVD.
Don't forget - not everyone is interested in the special features. By placing the 2 films in one package and skipping the extras discs, they will also be introducing new fans to the film at a cut down price.
Afterall, if one was serious about the attraction to the films, I'm sure they would rather just pick up a
Fantasia film on its own Diamond Edition and have all those dedicated extras rather than worrying about the other film too.
The only other option, as 'Rudy Matt' (nice name!) stated, would be that because
Fantasia 2000 is so limited in what the extras could offer, given it hasn't had time to become appreciable, they may well just skip the extras disc for this film and for the box-set have 3 Blu-Rays and 1 DVD.
Just my opinion, and since I'm not a fan of
Fantasia 2000 (and Disney did state in their September '09 press release that each film was being released as a separate Diamond Edition), I would be very chuffed to see this being the case.
