Then again....it doesn't.

If this is coming out in December, it looks like we would've heard SOMETHING more set in stone by now.
Disney Germany confirmed yesterday the releases of Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 as separated Special Edition Blu-ray Discs. It will be released on 18th November 2010!
The chances Germany will get the Fantasia movies, while the US won't are smaller than the apocalypse in 2012, I guess.^^

Right, but Fantasia is pretty unknown in Germany. The last release of Fantasia we got was cut (without Deems Taylor), bareboned and came two years after the US Anthology-Set. Really, I doubt they will cancel the US-release.

The title of this thread says it's coming out 12/7. Has this been officially announced?

I found this article. I'm not sure if it's already been posted, but here it is anyways:

http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/Disne ... -ray.shtml

It says Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 will be released in a 4 disc boxset. UGH!
I hope they at least have the decency to release Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 separately ALONG with a boxset....kind of how they did with the Fantasia Anthology on DVD.

It also states this:
The folks at Disney have also thought up a novel way to preserve archival, standard-definition bonus features without cluttering up the disc: We will be able to download them via BD-Live! The Fantasia box will be released in December, at a price to be determined.

This is just terrible, I have a Blu-ray player but it's not hooked up to access BD-Live.

Fantasia
Fantasia 2000
Fantasia World
Fantasia DVD

I am sort of intrigued by the idea of a Fantasia DVD...what if...walk with me here...what if the Fantasia DVD included the segments from both films?

Hmmm...

Now, if that were the case, one would be able to actually create a Fantasia/F2K "mix" of their own choosing. They could program their own...well...program!

Imagine your own personal Fantasia mix...

(just throwing this out, this wouldn't be MY mix)

Tocatta and Fugue
Rhapsody in Blue
Dance of the Hours
Carnival of the Animals
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Pines of Rome
Night on Bald Mountain
The Firebird

See what I mean?

How much amazing fun would that be?

Oh, well...it won't happen, just an idea. Moving on...

Unless that is why we get the apocalypse in 2012! :P

If there is ANY truth to that, then Disney just found new ways to be dumb! Man, it really pains me to watch this company slowly die off over time. By die off, I mean have much of anything to do with it's former soul.

Thanks for the info about the "Fantasia" sets. It is going to be a 4-disc set as they mentioned in the article, and it will be coming out in December of this year.

On my "Pinocchio" Platinum Edition DVD on the back of the booklet, it says "Fantasia - Spring 2010". That release date got delayed and pushed back to December, but after all the criticisms and the outcry, "Fantasia" has finally going to be release on Blu-Ray starting in early December.

I might be getting it by Christmas, but I do have two VHS tapes of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000" which I got a long time ago.

I also have the original vinyl LP and it was a 3-record set of the "Fantasia" soundtrack from 1957. I have it in my collection.

Even though the article states that it will be a 4-disc set, I still think they'll release them separate and as a set.

Here's how I see it happening:

Fantasia - 2-disc DVD
Fantasia - 2-disc Blu-ray + DVD w/Blu-ray packaging
Fantasia - DVD + 2-disc Blu-ray w/DVD packaging

Fantasia 2000 - 2-disc DVD
Fantasia 2000 - 2-disc Blu-ray + DVD w/Blu-ray packaging
Fantasia 2000 - DVD + 2-disc Blu-ray w/DVD packaging

Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 in a 4-disc set with "Fantasia World".

I'm thinking in order to get "Fantasia Word" you're gonna have to buy the big set, which is gonna be kinda like the Fantasia Anthology.
Maybe they'll be some sort of new trailer with an actual date on the Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray when it comes out in October. AND, it's about time for some freakin' cover art!!

But the 4-disc set is Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and Fantasia World on Blu-Ray, and Fantasia on DVD. So if your idea for the separate releases were true, then the 4-disc set would be losing the bonus discs (be it DVD or Blu-Ray).

I think that the separate releases will simply be the single Blu-Ray discs, similar to the single-disc releases for Fantasia and Fantasia 2000. The Fantasia Legacy was exclusive to the Anthology box set, and Fantasia World likely will be the same.

Fantasia 2000 is so short, I think it would be difficult to bring it to blu ray as a two disc set.

A two-disc set of Fantasia/2000 plus Destino would have made sense (because they talk about Destino in Fantasia/2000) - but this whole Fantasia World thing seems to have junked that possibility.

It is too bad Destino wasn't part of Fantasia 2000 to begin with, because that would have elevated F2K considerably, making it a contender alongside its famous parent.

*sigh*

I really wish there was a way to make your own personal Fantasia mix...

I'm sorry but I'd strongly disagree. Disney just aren't going to release 7 different products for 2 films - even if the Fantasia films were going to sell as many as Beauty and The Beast, there wouldn't be enough demand and revenue, or at least need to release this many Blu-Ray discs. Fantasia has such a defined audience that the trailers weren't even placed prior to Blu-Ray menus on recent releases; only accessible through the 'Sneak Peaks' menu.

Just look at Beauty and The Beast, which is now available to pre-order. The only buying option available is the 2 x Blu-Ray discs and the DVD, with a choice of 'BluRay' or 'DVD' packaging, and this is for their most requested film to date. They're trying to push Blu-Ray as much as they can; even by suggesting that a product which has a DVD case is, remarkably, the same price as one with a Blu-Ray case. Outstanding!

Fantasia will be released differently in various regions. Germany have already confirmed separate Diamond Edition releases, but I would have thought the most popular distribution would be;

-Fantasia (2 x Blu-Ray + DVD)
-Fantasia 2000 (2 x Blu-Ray + DVD)
-Fantasia 'Box Set' (2 x Blu-Ray copies of the film, 2 x DVD copies)

And the extra content? Although the separate releases will have dedicated discs, I don't believe the 'Box Set' will contain any of the expected 'new' special features. I believe that, as the article posted previously states, all of the past featurettes will be placed on the BD-Live service, but if you want the extras disc, buy the film separately. At the end of the day, I would suggest that the 'Box Set' will be nothing more than a good valued product for those who just want to see both films, and have the option of seeing them on either Blu-Ray or DVD.

Don't forget - not everyone is interested in the special features. By placing the 2 films in one package and skipping the extras discs, they will also be introducing new fans to the film at a cut down price.

Afterall, if one was serious about the attraction to the films, I'm sure they would rather just pick up a Fantasia film on its own Diamond Edition and have all those dedicated extras rather than worrying about the other film too.

The only other option, as 'Rudy Matt' (nice name!) stated, would be that because Fantasia 2000 is so limited in what the extras could offer, given it hasn't had time to become appreciable, they may well just skip the extras disc for this film and for the box-set have 3 Blu-Rays and 1 DVD.

Just my opinion, and since I'm not a fan of Fantasia 2000 (and Disney did state in their September '09 press release that each film was being released as a separate Diamond Edition), I would be very chuffed to see this being the case.

Wow, I'm really surprised we haven't seen cover artwork yet!! It has to be any day now, doesn't it? Where is the first place someone usually sees it? I'm looking forward to seeing how Disney does this one :)
