DEATH TO DVD!

But they ARE giving us deleted scenes ("The Fairfolk"). They never said it was the deleted animation that's been talked about for years.DisneyJedi wrote:I'm still mad at them for promising deleted scenes, but screwing us over in the end.
And it's a 10-minute feature, surely that should count for something.
Still, the entire release is just screaming for more (aforementioned deleted animation, an honest & candid making-of documentary, the pre-production excerpt from "The Illusion of Life", more stills for the gallery). But I'll take whatever bones they throw, since I don't expect them to ever throw any more.

That's A deleted scene. I mean, c'mon! We deserve an uncut version of the movie. Not some cheap re-issue.Escapay wrote:But they ARE giving us deleted scenes ("The Fairfolk"). All signs indicate this is hardly a reissue. It may not have henchmen being dissolved, but it's got A deleted scene, a feature, and presumably a much better (and widescreen) transfer.

One deleted scene is better than nothing at all, that's all I'm saying.
All the malarkey about "we deserve this-or-that" can be handled by someone else. Nobody likes my "we don't deserve anything, Disney doesn't owe fans a thing" arguments anyway.

And you were STILL expecting them to do it differently this time?DisneyJedi wrote:I'm still mad at them for promising deleted scenes, but screwing us over in the end. That's all they've ever done with re-releases. Screw us over by promising something, then deciding "Screw the fans. We'll just not give them what they want."

I think people complaining is that the Black Cauldron, was in production possibly the longest, second only to Sleeping Beauty. And although it failed in box office, it is the movie that really help set forth to the movies like Little Mermaid and such. You would think that with that much history and content behind Black Cauldron, it would be able to provide a lot of materials.Escapay wrote: But they ARE giving us deleted scenes ("The Fairfolk"). But because Black Cauldron is not a well known movie, Disney exec don't see much worth in putting all the content in and be Platinum/Diamond edition worthy. If Lion King and many other better known Disney movies still missing some contents, BC isn't going be an exception. We're lucky enough that Black Cauldron is getting this far of good treatment to begin with.

Where did you buy those movies, by the way? I still don't know if Disney will release Alice in Wonderland and The Great Mouse Detective's new editions in The Netherlands. (But I want to have the Dutch dub of the latter anyway...)Khonnor wrote:Last week I bought Oliver And Company and The Sword In The Stone, both still sealed and with slipcover for 25 euro, including shipping. You won't get those in Holland for that price, they are 16, 17 euro each.

I bought them from a seller I know on Ebay, brand new. Sometimes dvdpacific.com have nice prices too.
The Great Mouse Detective will be released in Holland, nextt month, together with The Black Cauldron. And Dumbo DVD.
Alice in Wonderlandwill be released next Spring.
Hmmm... Dumbo has been released already in The Netherlands, this spring. Where did you get this information? (I hope it's true!)Khonnor wrote:The Great Mouse Detective will be released in Holland, nextt month, together with The Black Cauldron. And Dumbo DVD.

Dumbo was gonna be released "worldwide" last spring, but the US decided to postpone it for a year, because they wanted Alice to come out with the movie. The rest of the world DID get Dumbo. Dumbo will be released next spring in the US, which makes everyone believe Alice will come out in other parts of the world.
Take a look at the forum of dvd.nl, they have discussions about it, plus a news item about the Dumbo Bluray supposedly coming out next month and the Black Cauldron/Great Mouse Detective dvds.

I think the sad truth is no one wants to go on record and admit the mistakes. That, and the missing shots may have needed additional work, that Disney is unwilling to invest in. It's one thing to finish "If I Never Knew You" or "Human Again", another thing entirely to finish the Cauldron Born rampage.Super Aurora wrote:But because Black Cauldron is not a well known movie, Disney exec don't see much worth in putting all the content in and be Platinum/Diamond edition worthy. From what I've read the "rampage" you mention (along with other material) was 100% done and cut just weeks before the film's release, which is why it caused such an uproar with the animators. If the footage still exists it would not be a case of "finishing" a scene, but re-inserting it back into the film where it once existed.Rudy Matt wrote:I think the sad truth is no one wants to go on record and admit the mistakes. As for recording new material, what about archival stuff that exists? On Youtube I found a Disney Family Album excerpt that included words from John Hurt and the man who did the voice of Gurgi. Such material would be ideal for any release of The Black Cauldron.
