Disney at Comic-Con 2010 discussion

Post by Disneyphile »

Although the programming schedule for Comic-Con 2010 has not been released yet, we know that Walt Disney Pictures will have some presentations there. We can also surmise that most or all of the following will be discussed: Tangled, Tron: Legacy, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Cars 2 and Winnie the Pooh.

So, are you going to Comic-Con? And if you are, will you be wearing a costume?

Disney unveils their 'ComiTRON' plans for Comic-Con 2010
Disney is the first studio to announce some of their official plans for the San Diego Comic-Con this year. Returning for an unprecedented third year to the fans and convention that "started it all," Disney is pleased to present a special, inside look at its upcoming Tron Legacy plans for Comic-Con. The official Tron panel will be held in Hall H on Thursday, July 22nd starting at 11:15AM with appearances and a Q&A from the actors and filmmakers as well as "exclusive glimpses of the film." They'll also have a booth on the showfloor. FS.net will be there covering the panel live and following whatever Tron madness Disney decides to unleash.

I'll be going, probably in a costume one day  but if they have a Disney panel in the big room (forget the name), I doubt I'll be able to get it. It's usually way too crazy.... thanks to certain fans of certain movies.

Unless you've got preview night on your four day pass, I doubt a lot of people might be able to get to that... sadly...

Technically, it starts tonight. Preview night for professionals. I'm told that in the last couple years it's been almost as crowded as the regular days.

Tragically, I'm having to sit this one out, 2nd year in a row, so y'all keep us posted, a'rite?

I do hope that Disney dishes it out at the Tangled presentation and that some of it hits the internet in whatever quality! Cause I'm just not in a position to be able to go to Comic Con but am literally DYING to see that presentation! I really hope we get some nice goodies tomorrow at the presentation, and on general release. A nice online clip of highlights, a poster, new artwork, promo pics, character shots, clips from the new songs, maybe even a performance by Mandy Moore of one of the new songs on stage at the event, just something really cool to get that buzz going...

I'd say it's a possiblity. I saw pictures of her going in and out of a salon to get her hair done yesterday in Beverly Hills. She's in the neighbourhood and it would be an awesome promo moment for her to attend and sing a song with Alan Menken on piano to premiere a song. Not getting my hopes up, but had I been working at the marketing department at Disney it's certainly something I'd have slipped into the idea box!

A scoot down the 5 gets you from LA to San Diego in a couple hours. It's one of the main reasons Comic-Con has turned out the way it has.

And then there's this:

Mandy Moore Lightens Her Locks

Interesting, no?

She's been playing around with her hair color for years, so it really doesn't mean much...

But on an unrelated-to-Tangled note, I didn't know that her next album was due later this year until I just read that article, so thanks for posting it! :)

There's only one panel that slightly mentions Rapunzel, ugh. It's tomorrow and I'll be there for sure.

It's a Tangled only panel though, with both Directors present and Glen Keane, for one full hour! Not too shabby! It's not like they'll get away with showing 5 concept drawings and 5 minutes of footage... they need to fill that hour up!

Disney Shows Surprise Pirates Clip

Today at Comic-Con, during Disney’s panel, a surprise clip of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow was shown from the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I would imagine the clip was shown of Depp in his Sparrow costume. The clip included a greeting from Depp.

The Rapunzel panel was pretty cool. I hated how they kept referring to Flynn as the main character though. And they kept using the words "re-telling" and said something like "the Rapunzel story is just about her sitting in her tower waiting for her Prince." Have they even READ the story?

They showed the whole scene when Flynn enters the tower (minus a few not quite finished animation of Rapunzel) and they were going to show some kind of sequence of Flynn singing a song called "I Don't Sing" (High School Musical?) but they were running out of time so we only saw a few seconds of it.
