Sleeping Beauty DVD AND BLU-RAY Discussion Thread Vol. II
Hello everyone, I'm new, and I apologize if this question has already been asked, but does anyone know the chances of Sleeping Beauty being released in the future as part of the Diamond Collection? I saw it listed in the list on Wikipedia of possible titles that were to be included in the collection, but I am not sure how reliable that is.
I have just started collecting the Blu-ray/DVD combo's, and have The Princess and the Frog and Snow White already. I'd like to get Sleeping Beauty next, but might wait if they're going to release it again as part of the Diamond line somewhere down the road. My logic is they might add more features if it is given the Diamond classification?
Thanks!!

Thanks for that information. I guess I am just trying to foresee any issues in the near future with having to re-purchase titles. I own almost all of the DAC's on VHS, but none on DVD. I figured with the Blu-ray releases being paired with DVD discs, now would be a good time to upgrade my collection. I don't even have a Blu-ray player yet but a plan is in motion!
Like I said, I already have Snow White and The Princess and the Frog on Blu/DVD. Are any of the other DAC on Blu/DVD yet, besides Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio?
I appreciate your advice on Sleeping Beauty being worth the purchase now instead of waiting for a possible Diamond release, do you feel the same way for Pinocchio?

Bolt, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and Dinosaur (if you want to call the last one part of the Classics) are already released, plus Dumbo in the UK.MJW wrote:Thanks for that information. I'm still undecided about Sleeping Beauty
. I mean, I know it's reasonable to try to prevent double dipping, but for all I know in 20 years I might have to re-buy my whole video library on whatever new media is popular at the time, and that's not stopping me from acquiring new titles now.
It comes down to either getting Sleeping Beauty to enjoy it now, or hold out for a potential Diamond release with additional features in the next few years. Argh!

IMO, just get it now. If you're going to always worry about what the next release will be, you won't be able to enjoy the release that is already available. Both the 2003 DVD and the 2008 DVD & Blu-Ray were stellar and solid sets, and if you like the movie, might as well pick it up while it's still available. Worry about the new edition when it's actually announced as coming out, and since that won't happen for another 5-7 years, you can still enjoy whatever version of Sleeping Beauty you have in the meantime.MJW wrote:It comes down to either getting Sleeping Beauty to enjoy it now, or hold out for a potential Diamond release with additional features in the next few years. A potential Diamond release won't be released until 2013, at the earliest (if it ever gets a Diamond release). So, instead of waiting for a possible re-release that might never come, you can buy this extremely well done release of Sleeping Beauty now. I doubt that the new version will be much better, anyway. Unless Disney decides to throw the vault doors open completely, and adds every bit of information they have, and that probably won't happen.MJW wrote:Thanks KubrickFan!

Thanks for everyone's input; I decided to go ahead and get Sleeping Beauty now instead of waiting, and it just arrived today. I don't even have a Blu-ray player yet, but the DVD looks good in-and-of-itself.
How does everyone feel about the bonus DVD being packed in a simple slipcover case? I didn't really think about it before I bought the set, but now I'm worried that the DVD is going to get misplaced or damaged. What have you all done with your bonus DVD?
I'd looked online for a slim Blu-ray case that holds 3 discs, but unfortunately the only thing I found were the "thicker" ones, such as what Snow White, Pinocchio, etc. are packaged in. The thicker case would work except for the fact the the artwork won't fit correctly in the plastic sleeve (larger spine).
Oh well

It really is that gorgeous and is easily one of my favorite titles in my BD collection. A friend just starting getting into the format, and she wouldn't believe me when I told her that hand-drawn animated films look amazing in high definition. Once she saw Sleeping Beauty, she completely changed her mind and gained a new appreciation of the film.
Here are some high-res caps so you seen see how beautiful it really is:

Sorry to bring this topic back to the top of the list, but does anyone know if the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs were "updated" with a Blu-ray case that holds all 3 discs? Most of the copies I've seen in stores, and the one I own, came with the DVD disc in a cardboard sleeve. However, I was at a drug store today that had a few copies of the film left, and it appears as though the DVD was inside the case itself. I couldn't tell for sure, as the whole thing, slip cover and everything, was shrink-wrapped.
I'm just wondering that if Disney, towards the end of manufacturing of this release, changed the packaged so that all 3 discs were in the same case, like all the other combo packs have.

I picked up a copy at Best Buy over a month ago and it still had the cardboard sleeve.MJW wrote:Sorry to bring this topic back to the top of the list, but does anyone know if the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs were "updated" with a Blu-ray case that holds all 3 discs? Whoa! I didnt know about they put the put the DVDs in a cardboard sleeve. Good thing because I was just considering trading off my Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio PEs for the Blu Ray combo packs.BwayJ wrote:I picked up a copy at Best Buy over a month ago and it still had the cardboard sleeve.MJW wrote:Sorry to bring this topic back to the top of the list, but does anyone know if the Blu-ray/DVD combo packs were "updated" with a Blu-ray case that holds all 3 discs? As far as I know, only the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray that has the DVD in the cardboard sleeve. Pinocchio, the title that next followed on Blu-ray, and everything after that, has a 3-disc case. It's almost as if they manufactured the Sleeping Beauty sets and threw the DVD in there as an afterthought.[/b]toonaspie wrote:Whoa! I didnt know about they put the put the DVDs in a cardboard sleeve.
