Oh! That is awesome! Depending on how good the 3-D is (and how pricey the console is, lol), I might be picking one of these things up...Neal wrote:I have been reading video game boards and apparently I was correct - Disney will distribute these movies on their device and they will be in 3D without glasses. Awesome! I don't mind watching movies on my iPod Touch so the 4-inch 3DS screen won't bother me!

Actually, they're showing the trailer in 3D right now at E3 on the 3DS. I'm not sure but I think this is the first time the trailer has been seen in 3D? Anyways, 3D or not, I'm really not sure I'd want to watch this movie on a 3.5" screen.
Still hated hearing them say the name "Tangled" when they announced the movie's availability on the 3DS during the show. It actually sounded like the most uninteresting movie of the bunch (even though How to Train Your Dragon is still a horrible name). They only showed the title logo, so unless these gamers follow Disney like us, they're probably like WTF is tangled?

3D without glasses? Didn't the people of Jaws 3D do that and fail miserably?Neal wrote:I have been reading video game boards and apparently I was correct - Disney will distribute these movies on their device and they will be in 3D without glasses. This is totally different. From what I read so far, the 3D works very, very well.DisneyJedi wrote:3D without glasses? Here was a promotional video for the Nintendo 3DS:

Autostereoscopic displays have been around for years. The problem with these displays using a parallax barrier (what the 3DS uses) is that they require you to be in a "sweet spot" to work. If you're too close, too far away, or you're tilted to either side, it will blur. This is why it isn't used in movie theaters and home televisions, where multiple people will view the screen from many different positions and most of them will NOT be in the "sweet spot." Beyond a niche market for computer monitors and cell phones, more personal screens, there wasn't a market for them. Nintendo, as always, is just taking old (proven) technology and making it trendy (just as the touch screen was old tech and is now used in everything). It seems only Nintendo and Apple seem to have that ability.DisneyJedi wrote:But how is it possible? I've never seen 3D done w/out glasses
I actually heard Disney bought one of the first autostereoscopic display manufactures about a decade ago and had their Imagineers trying to perfect the technology to use in the new Star Tours update. I'm not sure how that all turned out but other manufactures of auto-stereoscopic displays are developing better filters and screens that will have multiple sweet spots. Who knows, maybe it can be perfected?
Anyways, for a detailed explanation of how the parallax barrier works, here is a article from back in 2004 on Sharp's autostereoscopic display (Nintendo rumored to be using Sharp's current display manufactured for cell phones):

Not much new news, but it's still about the film.

This isn't the 3DS. The 3D in this game uses the camera for the illusion of depth, but is VERY different from the actual handheld.aurum-femina wrote:Here was a promotional video for the Nintendo 3DS:

The handheld you see in the video is the Nintendo DSi, an updated version of the Nintendo DS released back in 2004. It includes two cameras, an SD card slot and internal memory.aurum-femina wrote:Then it's a prototype? Have any other images/videos for it?pap64 wrote:This isn't the 3DS. This is the Nintendo 3DS, fully revealed yesterday:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GYnyBxVhK_c&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GYnyBxVhK_c&hl ... 2=0x6b8ab6" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
The 3D effect is hard to capture, but you get an idea of the design, the screen and the games.
Hope this helps!
