Never miss a show. I own the first two seasons on DVD, and this third season is looking like a keeper also. I'll be there Thursday night. Part of my Top 5 Television Shows that I can't miss. "White Collar", "24" and "Burn Notice" along with "Desperate Housewives" and "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives".

I watched some of the White Collar marathon last week.dvdjunkie wrote:Never miss a show. I own the first two seasons on DVD, and this third season is looking like a keeper also. But you'd have to kill me and force my dead body in front of a television set to get me to watch 24.

Tomorrow night, finally! Yeah thats a good list of shows right there (Lazario I don't understand the 24 hate) but Burn Notice has to be at the top. How awesome is Bruce Campbell? Its a pretty amazing cast in general but i love his comic relief...dvdjunkie wrote:Never miss a show. I own the first two seasons on DVD, and this third season is looking like a keeper also. It comments on real political conspiracy theories but not from a disapproving angle. It tries to validate white fears of ethnic minorities in America. And makes statements that a majority of peaceful minorities in America (especially people of middle-eastern original) are violent, dogmatic, and intolerant. Essentially, more intolerant than the bigots who write for the show.katemonster wrote:Lazario I don't understand the 24 hate
Aside from that, it's just really poorly written. The characters are really annoying and it's an unintelligent show propelled by unpleasent characters who we are told are really cutting edge just because they're angry and stressed out.

Laz:
You are reading too much into one of the best television show there is. Why does everything have to be politcially correct in your world. Have you ever watched a show just for its entertainment value.
These are all works of fiction and are made for entertainment. And it is people such as yourself who make if tough on the rest of us to get quality entertainment on television without being blown away by Politically Correctness everywhere we look.
If you look at the Nielsen ratings you will find that you are definitely in the minority on this one. Eight years running, and still going strong, with one of the best ensemble casts on television.

Not really. If hate is there, it's there. I didn't even find it myself (the show is famous for trying to portray average American citizens of middle-eastern ethnicity as terrorists and as knowing terrorists and of powerful women of non-white races as bitter, pissy, haggy ballbusters with no soul) but I've seen scenes where it radiates from the screen. It's sick.dvdjunkie wrote:Laz:

It doesn't have to be. But when something promotes hate or serious intolerance or is there just to be propaganda, I take issue.dvdjunkie wrote:Why does everything have to be politcially correct in your world.
Yeah- dig up the ratings on all the most popular television shows throughout history. We all know there is crap out there. There was crap in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and now. Nielson Ratings don't tell us what is good television. Popularity doesn't equal quality - and you're old enough and should be wise enough to know that well.dvdjunkie wrote:Have you ever watched a show just for its entertainment value.

Entertainment is not supposed to attack benevolent people. Unless they want to be attacked. When something is in such poor taste like 24's plotlines - "fiction" and "entertainment" are not valid excuses. There is no excuse for most of what's on display in 24. No matter how you try to slice it.

I am really liking the backstory they are using for this season, and they are giving Bruce Campbell a little more to do each week, which is fine with me. Gabriel Anwar is a very beautiful woman, and a darn good actress, and adds a lot to the show.
It was cool to see Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless together again. They were so good in "Cagney and Lacey". Even if it was only one story, it gave Gless and Daly a chance to light up the screen as they did many years ago.
NOTE TO LAZARIO:
It's close-minded people like you that take the entertainment value out of television. Look around you, 80% of the prison populations in this country are Middle Eastern, Black or Hispanic, so the portrayal of these incidents is not trying to raise a situation, it is trying to show a current situation. Don't be so harsh on a show like "24", it is shows like this that shows most Americans what is going on behind the scenes. It is all not peaches and cream, as you want to portray it.

Ya don't think it's a bit late for this?dvdjunkie wrote:NOTE TO LAZARIO:

This discussion ended over a week ago when you decided it was over. Now, it's over.
However, I will say:
You clearly didn't read what I wrote up above, and now you're using that completely irrelevant example to write-off this show's clear dislike for minorities. I was talking about implying minorities were terrorists and had ties to terrorists just because they were of the same ethnicity as religious extremisms in the Middle East. Your example doesn't explain away any of that. Nor, does it offer a defense toward the show's problem with women in power.dvdjunkie wrote:It's close-minded people like you that take the entertainment value out of television. It's people like me who are trying to put a little intelligence back into entertainment. It's not too much to ask for people to use their brains, you know. You're asking me to turn mine off and turn away from an obvious wrong. That's not who I am. There will always be plenty of people happy with the brainless status quo, to not try to think. I'm not one of them.
And you don't know shit about how I want things portrayed. Nor, do I suspect you know very much about the "behind the scenes" of America. You're just happy to think 24 is the real deal. Now that's worth a classic DVDjunkie:

Have a nice day.

My DVR is all set up to record both Burn Notice and Royal Pains. Thursday is really looking up as a great night for television.
I just picked up Season Three of Burn Notice on DVD, so I will have my own marathon tonight and tomorrow before Season Four starts.

Nope, and I probably won't.katemonster wrote:This is returning June 3! Littlefuzzy, you got cable yet?
I haven't turned my TV on in the past year (except for a couple of times for severe weather news.) Anything I watch I really prefer to watch on DVD nowadays, avoiding commercials, repeats, cliffhangers, and so on. Plus, DVDs are going to be higher resolution than anything I see on TV (I have a really old TV), and I watch all my DVDs on my laptop now.
Of course, right now, I can't spend money on cable OR DVDs, I'm completely broke! Hopefully that will change in a week or two, but even then I probably wouldn't buy cable. If I did, I might get the basic line-up, but I don't really think I'd get any premium channels. Burn Notice is on USA, right? That should be in the standard line-up, I think...
