Funnily enough, I don't know who that is, either. Like I said, I don't pay attention to who's popular in music nor do I have an iTunes account. Only last week did I find out what exactly a "Justin Bieber" is.

I think it looks gorgeous, and I don't know people expected, but I think this is as "painterly" as anyone can expect from a computer at this point in the game. I hate the trailer, but it's made me that much more excited for the film!
I agree, completely. In fact when I first saw the clip, I wondered if it was some other trailer for a different movie because that scene with Flynn in the jail did not look animated to me.
Yep, I thought that the same exact thing.

Tangled Trailer!

Post by Disney Duster »

PatrickvD wrote:will people please stop talking about how it doesn't look painterly (I can't even stomach that word anymore) the HD trailer looks fantastic and as visually dazzling as anything Pixar or Dreamworks have brought us recently.
It looks BETTER, and more distinctly Disney, than the animation in those. And it still is somewhat more painting looking/hand-drawn moving.

I think I forgot...we have the same birthday? June 10? Cool. Yes happy birthday to us, lol.

So the animation is very beautiful and better than we have seen CGI before, but...doesn't Rapunzel look kind of bad and kind of...Pixar-ish in that very last shot, with her laughing, with her teeth showing? She looked better in the creepy clipart where we thought her eyes were too big! All in all I wish she looked more like the clipart where she was holding the paintbrush...and I liked Flynn's old design better, too, but other than that, and needing to be more painterly and hand-drawn and less comedic and be called Rapunzel...great!

actually the scene where she laughs bothered me too. In my opinion, her smile and mouth got WAY too big for her other features and in a way got ugly. I'm also beginning to get the impression she's more valley than sass... maybe it's the "like... FOREVER" line, her swinging around the tree, and her goofy laugh, but I thought she'd be more of a smart ass type. Someone who would present a challenge for Flynn. Kinda like a book-smart girl meets a street-smart boy.

FRECKLES!?!?

OMGWTFBBQ!! Glen Keane got his Christmas wish! First Disney Princess with freckles, woohoo!
LOL I'm glad you're excited, but she's had freckles in the artwork we've seen. She's so cute!
I think there were a couple images without them, because I remember someone mourning their loss at one point on this thread

It's the same trailer we saw before, only now with final animation incorporated, but it unfortunately is still using the DreamWorks marketing tactics. This trailer leaves me as confused as that Rango teaser, I just don't know what to expect of this movie.

Someone needs to tell the merchandising department that this movie is about Flynn Ryder, as made perfectly clear by the trailer, but maybe they didn't get the memo as they're still be concentrating on Rapunzel (the side character?). Marketing and merchandising need to work together.

Yeah, so this trailer sold me on the animation style but not the movie itself. I'm really not sure if this movie is about Rapunzel? It actually looks like DreamWorks' The Road to EL Dorado, both in character designs and feel of the trailer, which goes along with Disney claiming it's a comedy-adventure in the narration.

PS: Still hate the name Tangled :headshake:
Mawnck wrote:I saw the same test screening that /film mystery emailer did, and this trailer gives a dreadfully wrong first impression. The music does indeed insult this film (which is not a slam at Pink, just at the music selection process). It's as if they used We're Not Gonna Take It in a trailer for Beauty and the Beast.

This is a DISNEY movie, not a Dreamworks wisecrack-fest. There is nothing remotely Pink-like in the soundtrack, and it's certainly much more than a string of dopey he-man gags. Flynn isn't even in the first 15 minutes or so.

The main villain, by the way, isn't in the trailer at all.

Oh, okay. Haha. All you need to know is that P!nk's been pretty mainstream for about the last decade, which would explain a lot of the groans of some people.

Man, I can't stop watching this teaser trailer. :O

After watching it a couple more times, I have to be honest. This is an awful trailer and if I weren't following the production of this for eight years and reading every little bit of news, I would have little interest in it because the trailer makes it look like a complete gag-fest and not the dramatic fairy tale it actually is. It's poorly cut and doesn't give any indication of the characters other than one dude is a bandit and the chick lives in a tower. It's a trailer that is un-appealing to adults as well as to children. Most children these days may be obnoxious, but they're not stupid. Frankly, Disney's marketing department is run by idiots these days. These days, I've become un-trusting of trailers and this looks like the most un-trust-worthy trailer I've ever seen.

Every Disney film has its fair share of slapstick, but most of them don't have the gags dominate the film. In Beauty and the Beast, there's a scene where Lumiere lights somebody's buttocks on fire, but scenes like that weren't the fore-front of the film. Even Hunchback of Notre Dame, one of their more mature and serious efforts, had a couple of slapstick bits. But they weren't part of the dramatic storyline and the same will likely happen here. So, come November, we will see this is the biggest case of mis-marketing ever.

OMG!!!

You've made my day!
First of all: Finally a trailer that focuses on the MAIN CHARACTER.
Second: the trailer we ALL wanted. It feels so much more magical!
Third: It's in my own language!

Love it!

Also, I'm so happy they named the movie Rapunzel here in the Netherlands. Much better than a Dutch translation of Tangled or Rapunzel's official Dutch name (Raponsje..ugh!) could even be!

Disney. I LOVE YOU!!!

EDIT: It seems that in some other English speaking counties the movie will also be called Rapunzel, as this trailer shows. It's the same one as the Tangled one, but instead of 'It takes two to get...Tangled'
It says 'It takes two to get tangled. Rapunzel' With the 'It takes two..' line as a tagline of sorts.

I'm pretty sure the synopsis for this film, that has been available for quite some time now, mentioned this to be a MUSICAL COMEDY...

were you still expecting a dramatic true the original fairytale? It's amazing how people only read/hear what they want to.

This is not Sleeping Beauty, nor will it ever be Sleeping Beauty.

Thank you for sharing that trailer. Once it comes out on DVD, I am going to get that movie from other countries, besides the US release, and watch it over, and over again.

I have no problem with the trailer (except the name of the movie, but I am trying to get over it). I find it funny. Oh and to tell you the truth, I do not see any freckles on Rapunzel's cheeks, somewhere around her eyes and nose, or anywhere, sorry. I think she looks cute without the freckles.

Amazing what basically only different music can do to a trailer.

Yeah, Pink is a great artist actually. "Trouble" isn't one of her best songs. Check out "Crystal Ball" or "I Don't Believe You", or her live performance of "Glitter in the Air" where she shows off her aerial skills. I loved her album "Missundaztood", too, but I think her most recent is her best.

I'll have to wait until I'm home to watch the Dutch trailer -- YouTube is blocked at work :(

Ooh, I prefer the Dutch trailer... Can someone please translate the title cards? Are they better than the English ones?

Is that the actual score? It's lovely... It gives me little shivers like the BatB or HoND scores. Yay!

And do try to remember.... trailers are only trailers. They are really only useful for finding out when the movie will be released and getting a peek at some footage (well, in the case of people who are already familiar with the concepts of the films, anyway). Let them advertise in their own silly ways. No one's going to care in 5 years, after the film has become part of the Disney consciousness.
