I haven't seen nearly the amount of advertisement for this movie as I did for Earth. In fact, I've only seen one TV commercial - that's it.

I worry that it won't do anywhere near as well as Earth. Earth made $8,825,760 on opening weekend - I'm guessing this one only makes $3,000,000.

Reviews are starting to come in. 6 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes. ALL positive. It's only opening on 1,200 screens which is considered a wide release but not like your normal wide release of 2,500-4,000 screens so it won't be a big money making documentary.

That seems about right to me. There's been so much less promotion for this one and really the chief reason Earth did well was because Disney promoted it extensively. One wonders, does Disneynature fit into the current franchise way of thinking in place at Disney? They're committed to it for at least a few years, but with the brand's biggest champion deceased, I wonder if the reduced effort on Oceans is the first sign that Iger and Ross will be phasing this out. After all, we won't be seeing Oceans bedspreads, toothbrushes, and cell phone games anytime soon.

As far as promotion goes, I don't have TV service anymore, so Idk about on TV, but Radio Disney plays "Make a Wave" (the Joe Jonas & Demi Lovato song from the movie credits) all the time...but they don't usually mention where it's from, but they have before...

I'm still wondering what happened to the North American release of Crimson Wing. There hasn't been any mention or announcement about it here. It's already on Blu-Ray in some parts of the world. What's up Disney?

I share your dissapointment Barbossa -its the same here in Australia. I ended up buying the bluray from UK and have viewed in several times- after the third viewing I can sort of speculate why they are withholding it cinematically in the states. Its a truly haunting, beautiful film but I think maybe the marketing and promoting division may think they have a problem. Im speculating that they set a benchmark with EARTH which was almost an epic style doco- maybe thats why they followed up with Oceans this year...Crimson Wing on the other hand is very different movie -it goes at its own pace (which is NOT a criticism) almost meditative-and I for one would have loved to have seen it theatrically but at the end of the day - it isnt that much different from what we see on tv these days. Having said that I think it would be criminal NOT to give it a theatrical release. Its a pity, from my understanding its a true Disneynature film and not something they aquired and then re-edited... Notice that HIDDEN BEAUTY is also up for european release this year but there it has been confirmed that AFRICAN CATS is the next major Disneynature U.S. release---I really hope Im wrong and that both Crimson Wing and Hidden Beauty dont slip under the radar.

My sister went to see this in the theaters with her class as a field trip to celebrate Earth Day. She said it was terrible, and that it was a cheap rip-off of Planet Earth and the Blue Planet. Then again, my sister thinks that most of Disney is childish and petty.

Apparently we were going to see this last night, but I worked an extra 2 hours, so it didn't happen...

Like I did with Earth and the True-Life films... I've read about the Circle of Life-type acts in the film, but how graphic are they? Spoilers if you must.

Just got back from seeing Oceans. Good movie. Lots of great footage. I think the only gripe I had was it could've used more facts about the animals in the narration. I think earth covered this better. However, it did touch on the subject of ocean pollution and garbage in the seas.

One thing I didn't get was the scene with the Galapagos and they showed the rocket going up. The Galapagos are on the west coast of South America, while the ESA's spaceport is in French Guina, on the east coast of South America.

Pretty much my same senitments. Remarkable, beautiful footage but it just felt more like a slide show than Earth which had a bit of a story going on, and definitely explained what the animals were up to. I didn't feel like I know anything more about the Ocean after seeing it except that there's some strange looking creatures down there.

African Cats looks AMAZING though!

I really enjoyed Oceans in the theater, it will definitely be a BR purchase for me to join my Earth BR as well as The Crimson Wing which I ended up ordering from Amazon.Uk.....That said....it can be a hard movie to watch if you don't enjoy survival of the fittest video....which seems to be in a theses movies, but very sparingly....ie, not many scenes...but without really spoiling anything, they had more scenes than I wanted to see of the survival of the fittest variety....

I literally JUST received the UK Blu-ray of The Crimson Wing and then found out they were releasing it in the US now haha.

I have to admit though, I was majorly disappointed with it, I usually LOVE nature documentaries, but The Crimson Wing was one of the worst that I have seen. It was beautifully shot, cute and heartbreaking at times, but it was a bit long, there were a number of shots that just seemed to drag on forever. It got to a point where I was thinking to myself, "didn't they already show this ?"

It felt like it was at least 100 minutes, but I just checked the case and it was in fact only 78 minutes (including the end credits.) I think it would have worked better as a 60 minute episode in a mini-series, but as a standalone film, it was quite disappointing.

Will still be picking up Oceans, and am very much looking forward to African Cats and Hidden Beauty.

I'm still wondering about Hidden Beauty. Is that one scheduled to be released after African Cats?

I really like the music they use in the trailers for these movies. I managed to get ahold of all the tracks.

Chimpanzee is the next big disneynature release after African Cats in the U.S.

Hidden Beauty is apparantly scheduled to be released in france and the European market this year however.

The fate of Orangutans: One minute to midnight remains unclear however as it has been removed from the Disneynature U.S. website -at least for now.
