So upset right now

Post by Mushu2083 »

 I've been training seeing eye dogs and service dogs on and off for about three years now and I have a new dog that I'm training, Harry and I have to give him back tomorrow! I DON'T WANNA! I was told not to get too attached but did I listen?! NOPE! Every time I look at Harry I just turn into a big puddle of goo. Look at Harry, big ol' pile of goo. Mom said I could get a dog of my own since I took such good care of Harry (I HAD to, he was a service dog in training). Don't know what kind of dog I'd like to get but I'd like to get a dog from an animal shelter.

Now I'm all upset thinking about it!

I know it is not much of a consolation, but you definite have the right idea about going to an animal shelter to get a dog (if you do). You'll be giving a doggie a home that would otherwise be "put to sleep" (see, I'm being nice because there are kids here) unless a home was found for it.

Chin up, mushu. You are serving the greater good - someone will have a well-cared for seeing eye dog thanks to you...

...do ya think the word "euthanized" would warrant a PG rating in a Disney film? ;)

That's sad to hear, Mushu. I used to foster kittens a few years ago - and damn, did I hate giving them back!! There was this litter of eight we raised from birth that we returned; they just stared out at us from the kennel as they were carried to the back room... sticking their little paws out...

That's sad that you have to give up your dog.
But look at the bright side your doing a good thing for another family.
That family needs a dog to help them.
I had many dogs when I was growing up some died while my parents gave away one of my dogs.
I have a dog right now and he is so loyal to my family and me.
Your parents should give you a dog of your own because dogs are human’s best friends.
All dogs need a nice cozy home. :D

I got back from giving Harry back to the seeing eye dog people. Harry whimpered a little bit but he seems to like the lady that's getting him now. Lots of those big wet doggie kisses. I'm gonna miss Harry. I'm especially going to miss seeing him turn the light on and off for my biology professor.

As a dog lover I truly empathize.
But as a rule I don't get attached to dogs named Harry.

But that's just me :D

I'm going to the humane society tomorrow after school to look at the doggies for adoption. I'm thinking I'd like either another dog like Harry or maybe someting smaller like a beagle (I have a thing for the peanuts cartoons which had a beagle named Snoopy). Does anyone know how big beagles get exactly? :? My bio teacher e-mailed me asking how I was doing since giving Harry back. He misses having Harry turn the lights on and off for him. Not that my biology teacher was lazy or anything, he just got a kick out of seeing a dog turn lights on and off. I feel a little better now but I still miss my Harry. I used to let him ride on the conveyor belt at PetsMart when I was ready to pay (that was when Harry was a small puppy of course). I'm getting ready to train another service dog. This time I'M choosing the name. I'm thinkg either Seamus (character from Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle) or Kuzco(Emperor's New Groove)

Me too ... and I just generally don't like them. However, I have owned 3 in my life (I vow never to again, though part of my family really wants one again- an indoor one this time! Ahhh... who knows). However, I can empathize with your story, I'm sure it must be very sad :(. I said a prayer for you, because I know that for animal lovers, that can be a very, very difficult thing.
