Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Yeah, I also thought the Sherman Brothers would be the ones to write the music here. But, the Avenue Q composers are pretty solid. In fact, were you to take the lyrics out of the songs in the show, they would probably sound pretty innocent. As long as they keep in the Winnie the Pooh theme, I won't mind.
That said, having just watch the South Park movie for the umpteenth time, I wonder when we see Trey Parker do the music for a Disney flick. And it's also kind of funny how Lopez and Parker are both collaborating on a stage musical about Mormons at the same time he's doing the songs for Winnie the Pooh.

Robert's health is failing? No wonder he hasn't been making public appearance, let alone appearing with Richard lately.Disneykid wrote:Yeah, that's pretty strange. I understand Robert Sherman not working on it since his health has been failing him as of late, but Richard is obviously still active having written the Stark Expo theme in Iron Man 2 (and proving he's still got it). Hopefully Lopez doesn't try to overdo it. What makes the original's songs stand out is how simple and brief they are, more like sung poems than flat-out musical numbers.
Yeah, if you watch more recent interviews with them (Extras on the Robin Hood Most Wanted Edition comes to mind)... he's not doing so hot. I certainly don't know any details, but he's always seemed much, much older than Richard, when really there's only like two or three years separating them. Personally I do not care for another 2D 'Winnie the Pooh" movie. The first one was nice but quite enough for me. I never felt any urge to watch any of those sequels, which I suppose are not really bases on A.A. Milne's original tales.
I much rather see Disney adapting another classic fairytale or legend in classic 2D... like "The Snow Queen" for instance....
*Sigh*

Not sure what you mean... The theme song has always been "Winnie the Pooh." Maybe I'm missing something.estefan wrote:Oh and speaking of the songs, do you think they will add Tigger to the main theme? Considering how prominent and popular a character he's become, it's almost surprising they haven't yet modified the song to include him.
Edit: I just realized what you were talking about.
Also, even if a lot of people aren't really excited for this, it's not fair to blame this project for The Snow Queen's cancellation. It probably would've been cancelled even if Winnie the Pooh wasn't happening.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"
I never even even thought how about the lack of Tigger in the theme song would affect this new film. I wonder where they'll squeeze him at. I think a good place is after "and Kanga and little Roo." It's the only line of the song (besides the intro or the outro with Pooh) that has a note held at the end of it, giving them time to have a few prominent singers in the chorus throw in "and Tigger, too." Plus, it makes sense to put Tigger with Kanga and Roo since he's closer with Roo than anyone else.
I'm curious to know whether they're going to re-use the original animation, rotoscope it so it doesn't look at odds with the rest of the film, or if they're going to completely redo it from scratch. I hope they just rotoscope it, keeping the same character entrances and poses. All they need to change is Piglet's appearance (his design wasn't finalized, yet, when the opening was animated) and throw in Tigger with the shot of Kanga and Roo.

Never seen that series (I grew watching more the New Adventures show), but I was referring more to this Sherman Brothers song, which pretty much is required to be in the new film. I will be sincerely disappointed if they don't open with the book.

Where did you read that I blame this project for the cancellation of "The Snow queen"? I just stated that I'd rahter see Disney spend their time and money on something else. Disney is just taking the safe route with another "Pooh'movie. But that's not the movie's fault af course.Disney's Divinity wrote:

I agree that they should do other things, too. But I can understand why they would be going the safe route with Pooh when even TP&TF (which I personally think was their best film in years) couldn't help Disney make a comeback. I'm sure there'll be more in the future, I just don't think they're ready to invest into making several 2D films at once at the moment.
Anyway, sometimes I wonder if my words come off more harshly than I mean them (it sucks not being able to use/hear voice on forums; I'm much nicer than I seem). Time for more smileys.

Actually, I thought TPatF was a comeback? It actually proved 2D still had a place in the entertainment business.Disney's Divinity wrote:I agree that they should do other things, too. And who said Snow Queen was canceled? It was only shelved.

Except it's kind of come and gone without making much of an impact on the public. I mean "comeback" in the sense that "Disney's back on top in animation." Which I don't think it is.DisneyJedi wrote: Actually, I thought TPatF was a comeback? It actually proved 2D still had a place in the entertainment business.![]()
And canceled, shelved, same thing. Either way, we won't be hearing anything about it for several years.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but:
The new Pooh movie is set to be released the same day as the final installment of Harry Potter (15 July 2011.) Apparently Disney is TRYING to kill it's 2D animation dept.
This release date puts it just two weeks after Cars 2 and two weeks before The Smurfs movie. I can't imagine it holding much of a chance between those all of those titles with younger audiences. As much as I would LOVE to see the Smurfs movie flop... I have a horrible feeling it won't, they will fill it with bathroom jokes and the young kids will eat it up.
Hope I'm wrong.

Guys at the Disney company, do us a favor and GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND STOP PITTING YOUR ANIMATED MOVIES WITH BIGGER MONEYMAKERS!!!!!!!!!! I mean, for Pete's sake! They wonder why The Princess and the Frog wasn't the big moneymaker they wanted it to be! Because it was THEIR fault!

No one over the age of 10 is going to be seeing a Winnie the Pooh feature in theaters. It's PERFECT counter programming. All the little kids who aren't old enough for Harry Potter (which will probably be PG-13) can watch this wholesome G-rated experience.
This film didn't cost $105 million to make, so it doesn't need to make that kind of money either.
No, it's a stupid decision through and through.
Potter may not skew so very young but the kids who will want to see Pooh have siblings who want to see Potter and Potter>Pooh, since you know, you can see it on TV, Pooh loses. Not to mention, Cars>Pooh and 3D>2D, and did I mention Pooh is on TV?
Also, this shows that Disney aren't aiming to make it a family experience but a toddler/baby experience which destroys the Pooh brand further.
An epic failure.

I still say it's counter programming. And let's be honest, Pooh IS a toddler experience. It's fricking Winnie the Pooh. Hardly a family film. Especially in times of ADD-3D movies. And us hardcore Disney fans are a big minority group.
This film cost Disney $35 million to make. They'll make it back easily. Just not in the way disney fans want.
