Walt Disney Treasures for 2010?

Post by ramday »

Is there going to be a Walt Disney Treasures wave for this year? I cannot seem to to find anything on the topic.

Unfortunately, nothing at all has been announced. At least that I know of. But, we've been thinking for the past like three years or something that "this is the last of the Disney Treasures." So, we'll have to wait and see.

Here's an 18 page thread on the subject:

Sadly, the rights holders seem to have cut their last remaining ties with Walt Disney amid the ongoing rebranding initiative.

But Roy E.'s son Roy P. is!

And then there's Diane Disney Miller - - or Walter Disney Miller.

If you were part of my group on Facebook trying to save the Treasures, you'd know that one of our guys called them and found out what Disney had to say about it. Here is what he said:
Just got off the phone with Disney Home Enter. The lady was sooooooooooooo nice. She told me that there will be no treasures for 2010, however, she also said that the main headquarters has not given word to them if the series has ended completely. She also explained to me that Disney does take notice of people who call them and the items they inquire about. Then she ended by giving me the address to the Burbank Studios to further my complaint.
Our theory right now is that they will not have any new ones this year but start it up again next year for Walt's 110th Anniversary of his birth. This is juts a theory. If that is what the case is, I don't think that is so bad, but we still need more people to make sure that is the case and that Disney knows the fans want more.

If you have not already, feel free to join up!

At this point I wouldn't mind them starting a new line. There are several key treasures that I still don't have and I'm not sure I ever will (Sllly Symphonies vol. 1, Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Vol. 1, Mickey Mouse in Black and White vol 1. The Complete Goofy, Disneyland: Secrets...) due to the rarity of them and the price they go for in the second hand market.

If they do a new line they could release it on BD and DVD and I can justify a BD purchase for a Mickey Mouse set and Silly Symphonies set since I only have half of those shorts and I can justify a BD purchase for Goofy and Disneyland: Secrets since I never had those. That would be a good opportunity to give 'How to Hook Up Your Home Theater' a home video release.

I would like these new sets to be more affordable than the Disney Treasures.

Good work, milo -- looks like you are generating a lot of enthusiasm over there!

I don't subscribe to facebook, but perhaps a member could post an exhaustive list of potential Walt Disney Treasures and movies/TV shows that need to be released (if it hasn't yet been done) in case someone at Disney Home Video or Disney's social media management division, DigiSynd, is paying attention to the details of fan concerns.

Some ideas:

Potential Walt Disney Treasures sets:

1. Song of the South (plus The Joel Chandler Harris Story, Trailers, promos, TV spots, Soundtrack, outtakes, artwork, etc.)
2. Ludwig Von Drake (18 episodes of Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color)
3. Ranger Woodlore and Humphrey Bear (all shorts plus 4 hour WWoC shows)
4. Jiminy Cricket (all educational shorts, MMC shorts, plus all 6 Jiminy hosted hour shows)
5. Chip an' Dale (all shorts, plus Walt Disney Presents hour show)
6. The Magic Mirror (all 6 TV hours hosted by Magic Mirror, including Walt's first two TV specials)
7. Disneyland Volume 3 -- all remaining TV hours about the park (including From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow, Disneyland Around the Seasons and Disneyland Showtime!) plus Films From Park Attractions (America the Beautiful, Mouseketeer 3-D Jamboree, Story of Oil etc).
8. Mickey, Donald and Goofy on TV (TV hours featuring all the standard characters in original animation bridges, often interacting with Walt)
9. Rarities 2 (with remaining animated shorts and featurettes that the Treasures series has missed like It's Tough to Be a Bird And Susie the Little Blue Coupe)
10. The Swamp Fox (all 8 episodes -- only 3 were released to date)
11. The Prince and the Pauper (all 3 Wonderful World of Color episodes plus the theatrical version)
13. Spin and Marty 2 and 3 (With Annette, Darlene and Moochie)
14. The Hardy Boys 2
15. Corky and White Shadow (Darlene)
16. People and Places
17. The Fabulous 40's (uncut versions of all the 1940's animated package features)
18. Annette 2 (Horsemasters, Escapade in Florence, music sequences)
19. Kurt Russell (TV movies and featurettes like Willie and the Yank, Secret of Boyne Castle, Disneyland Showtime and Dad, Can I Borrow the Car?)
20. Moochie (Moochie of the Little League, Moochie of Pop Warner Football, Mooncussers, Johnny Shiloh)
21. Animal Stories (from The Wonderful World of Color and Wonderful World of Disney)
21. A Walt Disney Christmas (compilation of all Walt era Holiday shorts, featurettes and TV hours)
22. A Walt Disney Halloween (compilation of all Walt era Holiday shorts, featurettes and TV hours)

Popular classic Disney movies that have yet to be released on DVD at all:

Song of the South (Bobby Driscoll)
Escapade in Florence (Annette, Tommy Kirk)
The Horsemasters (Annette, Tommy Kirk))
The Prince and the Pauper (Guy Williams)
Sammy, The Way Out Seal (Robert Culp, Billy Mumy)
The Light in the Forest (James MacArthur, Fess Parker)
The Sword and the Rose (Richard Todd)
Mosby's Marauders/Willie and the Yank (Kurt Russell, James MacArthur)
The Sign of Zorro (Guy Williams)
Zorro the Avenger (Guy Williams)
Dr. Syn Alias the Scarecrow (Patrick MacGoohan) (theatrical only edition)

Done and done, thanks. I'll be honest, I have not actually called them myself yet. Right now besides looking for work (my biggest priority, I will not lie) I am just trying to build the group up. We have almost 150 people, but need a lot more. But I do hope to personally call myself soon.

The phone number I have by the way came from this site, so anyone can call. That said, I'd love to get a web site going for folks who are not on Facebook. But with my maybe average understanding of how the internet works, or more specifically, how to set up a good web site with no money, it will mostly likely end up being a blog with info on it. But something is something, right?
