I was born in 1982. I was probably 9 or 10 when Beauty and the Beast came out, and probably 12 when The Lion King came out.

And for being a Star Trek fan, and an Spider-Man fan, and a soccer fan, and an Indiana Jones fan and even for being a Narnia fan. I seem to like things others around me don't. I admit I take it personally at times, but in the moments I don't (and I need to find those moments more often, I find I almost expect it. It's just life.

Wow you gotta be kidding me. I've never in my life heard anyone who dislike Indiana Jones...

I should note that I grew up when the Fab Four dominated the screens. People absolutely loved them and everyone became Disney fans because of it. In fact people found it cool if you had anything Disney related. I remember when The Lion King was released and in my case at least it was the Star Wars and Matrix of our era. Everyone, from the smallest pre-schooler to the biggest adult, HAD to go see The Lion King in theaters. I remember when I went to see it with my parents the theater was packed, and it wasn't just kids. There were many adults by themselves.

I say I am criticized for being a videogame fan far more than a Disney fan because society has formed a case against them, despite us living in the Wii Sports/Fit era of gaming. While people may say that Disney is childish, no one will say that it's dangerous being a fan. However, you try to make a defense about gaming and people look at you funny (I am a teacher and in one class I openly admitted that I was a gamer and people found that odd).
It did not make any diffrence for me even after those came out I still got made fun of still do get made fun of.

Yeah, I've been criticized loads of times for lovin' Disney films, especially the so-called "Princess" ones. People give me strange looks when I can randomly quote from Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast.

And I get lots of laughter when I tell them that my # 1 most anticipated movie of the year is "Rapunzel" (or "Tangled" as it's called now) and not Iron Man or Kick Ass, etc...

I love the Narnia movies! I also like The Princess and The Frog it did remind me of the old movies of my time, like The Little Mermaid, The Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas and so forth though I prefer from Pocahontas back wards as for the art work The Lion King back.

I think that no matter what it is, if it's not 'cool' or 'popular' at the time, then you are going to get criticized or teased. I think it's really pathetic how if you don't like things that are the norm, you get labeled as a oddball. I've never liked things that everyone else liked, so I've gotten my fair share of weird looks. And I never try to hide anything I like, because if people are going to make a big deal of it, I'm not going to waste my time.

I agree people should just let live you know what's the big deal, so I like something someone else dosn't it happens is called individuality people say oh just be yourself, be who you are like what you like but when you do you get critisized why is that? Really it does not matter as long as you're not hurting anyone there's nothing to worry about.

Your more likely to be shunned for not being a Disney fan where I am. Everyone is brought up on Disney, everyone buys Disney DVDs (either for themselves or their children or relatives). Certain Disney films would get the eyebrows though. Although everyone will join in a conversation about The Lion King, Aladdin, Toy Story etc. a lot of people don't seem to like and/or appreciate the older ones like Snow White.

I'm not sure if I get criticized, as I have not told people that I am a Disney fan (of some sorts).

Here's my two cents on this matter...

No matter who you are, where you come from or who your family is people will ALWAYS try to find something in your to criticize. Whether it's a fandom or a way of living, people just have the tendency of looking into someone else's life and making a mockery out of it for their entertainment.

Here's what I am a fan of: Disney, Nintendo, Mickey, Mario, Beauty and the Beast, Cartoon Network, anime, classic movies, musicals, comedies, socializing and yes, even buying stuff.

I am in my late 20s, I am 6 feet tall, I am hairy, I weight over 230 pounds, I am a teacher with two degrees (working on my third), I live with my family (which includes sister and her family), I don't drink, I don't go clubbing, Puertorican, a virgin, single guy, I still watch cartoons and get a lot of enjoyment out of writing what's on my mind (either via essays/reviews or writing stories). I want to get a tattoo someday, wish to go to Disney World/Land, travel all over the world, be charitable and even own a lot of cats.

I can bet ANYTHING that someone will pick any of those things and use them against me and make them look worse than they really are. Someone might say that I need to lose weight and get a shave, others to get a life and knock someone up and others to stop having such wild dreams.

My answer to them? "I don't give a sh*t". The only one in charge of your life is you, and if you are an adult you should be aware of what's good or bad for you, so taking criticisms to heart shouldn't be a bother.

Your quirks don't determine your value as a person. Sure, some might tell what kind of mentality you have, but don't determine if you are good or bad.

The only time you should care is if it IS affecting your life in a negative manner (obsession, health issues). Otherwise, haters gonna hate whatever you do anyways, might as well enjoy it!

While we're all sharing our feelings:

I'm 19, a virgin, and a potential future nudist. I have my parents constantly up my ass about getting a job, I hate them sometimes, they do nothing right. Im feeling the pressure from everyone around me, And rarely do people ever meet my expectations. My nose still hasn't fully recovered from the rhino-plasty I had over 13 months ago, I have no social life, I like Disney, I like Animation, I like Square Enix. Im reading Harry Potter for, like, the how manieth time. I have Aspergers, and am sick to death with dealing with the social issues that come with it. I am a total loser, I dont have a girlfriend. and I absolutely hate how stupidity rules society these days. I do not have an XBOX, I have a PS3 and I just want technobuffalo to finish their console wars videos partially to laugh at xbox fanboys and partially for the war to be over in my head. I sometimes get very upset at the smallest things because of how they all seem to fit together. Expectations, expectations, EXPECTATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! :headshake:  :stitch: :| :!: :!: :!: :shifty: :x :(

I think you need a cookie. *Hands you one*

Anyways. I've never had any negativity directed at me for being a Disney fan, my one friend is actually just as big of a fan as I am to such a point we both randomly burst into song while out and about town. Often we end up watching either something Disney or something Anime together. As for my family, they all enjoy Disney but not to the same degree as I am (where they simply enjoy Disney, while I love reading all the old stories, learning the history etc)
