Is this article reliable? I'm not saying it isn't, I just want to make sure. Some of those surprised me and some I'd never heard a connection having been made, though that might be the unfortunate irrelevance of the princes. The only one I knew about really was the Tom Cruise-Aladdin thing (and, yes, Tom Cruise is attractive no matter his personal life). I would never have guessed that Eric was based on Mel Gibson, but that might be because I mostly know Gibson by his older works (What A Woman Wants, etc.). Not that he wasn't attractive in those, but his age might've distracted me. He does look similar in that old picture there. And Beast--Michelangelo? I never would've guessed that, but I see the resemblance.

I'm also not sure if I believe the Naveen-Jonas connection. Just because I remember them saying once before that they tried to combine qualities a lot of women found attractie. That, and his smile in a lot of his human scenes reminds me a lot of Eric.

Btw, that picture of Eric--<3. I think that shot has subtly made me want to meet a guy with black hair and blue eyes. :D But all the princes are nice-looking.

Quite a remarkable article - no lie. I never thought much of Cinderella's Prince Charming but Gene Kelly is one of the hottest men in Hollywood history. Hell, when I saw the picture they chose of Gene, I practically buckled because his chest looks bigger and is shown more through his clothes than the movies I've seen of him. Like most people my own age, Eric and Aladdin were the most attractive of the bunch tied with Prince Phillip. But now that I know who the looks were most likely based on... I have cause to pause. Tom Cruise was all-that in the 80's but the 90's are a different story. At least post-Far and Away, post-1992. Screaming psycho vampires with long hair, screaming psycho agents with superiority complexes. For awhile there, he was only attracted to parts where he went nuts. That definitely hurts his sex appeal. As does the freaking ratty long hair. Then, Mark Hamill is like the David Cassidy of movies. King o' Cheese. And... another psycho: Mel Gibson. With cheesy hair and a cheesier image.

So, based on these comparisons, it sounds like Phillip's the winner. But... tied with Cinderella's Charming? Hmmm... pause off and cause for thought.

Some of those I definitely get, (Gene Kelly and Prince Charming, for example!), some are a little stranger, such as Eric and Naveen's inspirations, but oh well... Quite and interesting read.

That link has been posted before, but in a thread about the Disney Princess web site, so it's better here.

That article did not discover the Errol Flynn was also inspiration for Snow White's Prince. Sometimes these articles miss things...

I find Prince Adam to be the hottest prince and that Michelangelo always made meaty, gorgeous guys (it was art!) and he was gay himelf, so...

But Prince Charming is actually the prettiest prince and is even very cute in certain shots. Prince Phillip is hotter than him probably as part of his beefier, stronger role (and thus a stronger chin and other features), and he is my second favorite Prince in looks. After all, he is in the supposedly most beautifully designed film...

That picture of Gene Kelly made me look him up, I mean, he looks pretty gay (and adorably hot) there. Turns out there's a lot that points to him being genuinely straight and he even was against effeminate dancing and perhaps effeminacy in general, but he also could have been covering up his gayness by trying to act super manly and that will be my secret hope. I want to go back in time and date Gene Kelly. But at least we can be happy it seems Cinderella's Prince may be straight after all...

I agree that Prince Charming was always rather cute-looking in the few scenes we see of him. And even though he has a rather restricted design, I've always had a fondness for the Prince from Snow White.

As for the Beast, I actually have always liked his Prince form. But I've often noticed a lot of backlash from reviews over the years once the Beast transforms back to his human self. I guess the only reason the design doesn't work (for the movie) is that he doesn't seem to evoke as much emotion as the Beast does. I think that may be because the design itself comes across as more of a callback to the older, more "masculine" princes from the earlier films. Or maybe it's just because the audience doesn't see him enough.

I've also noticed on 'the Internet' ( :P ) that there's this running joke that the princes (most of them anyway) are gay. And that's not even including the Deviant-Art fanart website. I guess they're just too nice-looking for their own good. (Eric in particular seems to get the brunt of it because he's a sailor...whatever that's supposed to mean...and because he's so reluctant to kiss Ariel.  )

I honestly think that the Gene Kelly/Prince Charming connection is a bit farfetched. Charming does have the same hairdo as Kelly, but I don't know...

As for Gene Kelly being gay, it should be noted that he got married two times and had children (I know, I know, being married doesn't always mean you are fully straight, but I doubt you would marry two times if there wasn't any genuine love in the relationship). Though, I'm not surprised people would think he is.

Yes pap, those marriages were some of the things pointing to him being straight. I didn't want to elaborate on it, but his first wife divorced him, then he married again, she died, and he married again and they were together till his death. At least from what I have gathered. By the way a gay man could (and would) love his wife and children very, very much and be heartbroken when they die...and still not love them the way they would someone of the same sex

He was very Democratic and liberal.

Apparently a book called "Marlon Brando Unzipped" said Marlon Brando was gay and slept with Gene Kelly.

I dunno. James Dean was bisexual. Maybe all these actors were bi-curious with their other fellow, really good-looking acting bretheren.

I am surprised you said that you found the older Princes more masculine Divinity, they kind of looked and moved girly, probably to make them pretty (attractive) and probably because they were better at animating girls and they were meant to be sensitive, graceful guys.

I believe Jasmine's design is base on the supervisor animator's sister(which is totally not weird)

Ariel is based on Alyssa Milano

and Tiana...i got nothing on but i'd imagine michelle obama LOL.

yea girls are cool. I watched Little mermaid recently, when Ariel got her legs, i freeze pause it to get nice shot of Ariel's vagina and ass 8)

Ariel: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/disney-prin ... -dont-tell (The Alysa Milano thing is an urban legend)

Belle: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/disney-prin ... -dont-tell

Aurora: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/disney-prin ... -dont-tell

Jasmine: http://www.fanpop.com/spots/disney-prin ... -dont-tell

Tiana was based on Anika Noni Rose (if you compare pictures the resemblance is uncanny, they even made Tiana a lefty because Anika herself is a lefty).

Super Aurora: I am sure Glen Keane has a good 'ol time animating THAT scene!

How about when she comes out of the water and you see a great deal of her lower body? :p

That article said that Alyssa Milano was not a rumor, she just wasn't the only basis for Ariel.

Tiana was also designed on a black girl who worked at Disney. But I cannot find where I found that out. EVERY Disney Princess has been somewhat designed on her voice actress. However, is Tiana the first to not have a live-action model?! Did Jasmine have one?

Ariel does not have a vagina in the movie! If she does I must see a screencap as proof (and yes, I'm still gay, I just know the animators would never draw that. Roger Rabbit was not animated all by Disney and that is a different kind of film anyway...)

I know there has to be someone else, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was at least somewhat based on Tony Goldwyn (his voice actor) in the face. Several scenes remind me of him, like when he's looking at Jane during "Strangers Like Me" and Clayton forces him to look at the picture of a gorilla (or whatever they were looking at there).

To enigmawing: I'm surprised. I always thought she was pointed the other way to the screen. But I never paused and lightened enough to see. :P

Well...uh...thanks Enigma...Can you PLEASE make that a link instead, though?

However, there seem to be, rather strangley, lots of little lines all over Ariel, like stretchmarks or bondage scars! So, it looks like all they really did was draw that V line that every cartoon who's legs are crossed has (even male characters!), and the weird lines all over her make it look like more.

How did this happen in a thread called Disney MALES?! Thanks a lot for derailing and going off-topic Goliath and Super Aurora!

What can I say, I first noticed it when I was 13. :p I took this cap a few years ago and it isn't lightened; it's from the Limited Issue. The Platinum Edition is too dark to make out any details though.

Here's a frame comparison from the same scene between the two editions just to see the difference with the darkness (YMMV due to your monitor settings). Top is Limited, bottom is Platinum:

Sorry, I didn't think such an image would be so offensive after seeing "vagina" and "ass" being spelled out in this thread, especially after you specifically asked to see the screencap for proof. I can change it to a link regardless. :p

Pap64 gave links about the inspirations for the characters, but here's the (commonly-known) list of the live-action reference models as well:

Marge Champion was the live-action reference model for Snow White.

Ilene Woods was the voice and live-action reference model for Cinderella.

Kathryn Beaumont was the live-action reference model for Alice and Wendy.

Margaret Kerry was the live-action reference model for Tinker Bell.

June Foray was one of the live-action reference models for the Never Land mermaids.

Helene Stanley was the live-action reference model for Aurora. Stanley also performed as the reference model of Fantasia's "Dance of the Hours" characters in the 1957 "Disneyland" episode called "Tricks of Our Trade".

Sherri Stoner was the live-action reference model for both Ariel and Belle.

Alla Korot was the live-action reference model for Esmeralda.

HEY Helene Stanley was also a live-action reference model for Cinderella! Did you watch the Mickey Mouse Club bonus feature on the Cinderella DVD...or watch the making of?

Thank you Enigma, but they spelled it out first, I was going to say they couldn't do that on this forum, but I thought technically those words aren't censored anymore.

But then I thought of the children for the picture itself...as well as anyone who would like to have the option to see it and not walk unsuspectingly into it!

Because Disney Females > Disney Males  .

Thinking about it, The Little Mermaid was such a perverted movie...

First, in the poster one of the towers looks suspicious...

Then, we see Ursula's breasts bounce around....

Ariel is wearing tiny sea shells for a bra...

Then there's the priest with the erection... XD

And finally, we see Ariel's anatomy for a couple of seconds...

No wonder The Little Mermaid is a popular movie among males!
