Alice has become my favorite of his even with my misgivings. I guess it isn't so much about the film itself as it is how much the theme and source mean to me. If I were to be honest and cite his best film, I'd say either Beetlejuice or Batman Returns.

It doesn't even, apart from the look of it and Danny Elfman score, feel like a Tim Burton movie.
I know that Selick directed it.... But the story was Tim Burton's, he came up with it, and he had probably the most influential role in mapping out the story, etc. So even if he wasn't the director, he was a very active producer.
Pretty much what I was gonna say lol
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

That doesn't change much in my book.

I'm just saying, I don't think it should be taken off the list, it really is a Burton movie. Director or not, he was still the driving force behind it. I mean, for goodness sakes, what's its full title?

So what?! Gremlins used to say, Steven Spielberg Presents: Gremlins. But that's all Joe-Dante, baby. Every last frame screams: Joe Dante. It's a Joe Dante movie in every way.

And... well... do I even have to bring the Stephen King's series? Quentin Tarantino had his own line of movies. Not just Rolling Thunder, no they actually put his face on the cover and his name. Some combination of that. And what about that Precious movie? Didn't every ad for that thing have Oprah Winfrey's name all over it? Dario Argento Presented Demons and Demons 2 but they're Lamberto Bava's movies. Roger Corman. Clive Barker. That Bruckheimer guy. Michael Bay did it too. Dozens of people have produced, written, and gotten people they work with to help make movies they didn't direct. Do we immediately count those are their films? No way, Jose.

But TNBC kinda does scream Tim Burton to me, to be perfectly honest. I mean, look at Corpse Bride. It makes an excellent companion to TNBC. They have such a similar style and tone, and I believe that Tim Burton (who did direct Corpse Bride) is the reason for that. Even if he wasn't the director, per se, it really is his movie.

Well you got me there. And Nightmare was certainly better than Corpse Bride (wholly underwhelming - at best).

IDK, Corpse Bride is the only non-Disney film that I simply had to put in my collection (albeit as a replacement "third disc" for TNBC's Digital Copy). TNBC is definitely better, though. Especially in music and character design.

But nowhere near the masterpiece some make it out to be.
