WDCC sculptures

Post by FantasiaMan »

Does anyone collect WDCC (Walt Disney Classics Collection) sculptures?

If anyone does, how many do you have & which one is your favorite?

I have about 40 of them & my favorite would probably have to be my Donald Duck in his classic tantrum pose.

Hi

I have seen them before, but I don't collect them. A little expensive for a 17 year old lol.

I'm recycling this old thread because I have a question for WDCC figurines collectors!

I was wondering if Membership sculptures (such as Cinderella last year or Ariel in 2006) have the production year mark under them (like the other sculptures)? I'm watching one on eBay but seller says it doesn't have the mark under it so I'm wondering if it's possible?

If anyone owns one of these Membership sculptures, does it have the production year mark under it?

Thanks guys! ;)

Well Anne, not sure if it's what you mean, but mine does say "2006 Walt Disney Collectors Society" under the base, as well as the WDCC logo and Title of the piece itself.

Not sure if that answers your question but I hope it helps! :)

I only have two... Humphrey the Bear and Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore. I have nine big figs, though. I'd get more statues, but I have no more shelf space anywhere in the house.

I'm bringing this thread back up (and now it seems more fitting to be relocated to "Disney Discussion"?), because I've finally gotten a bit deeper into collecting these and I was wondering if anyone else here would like to chime in on which ones they have and which ones they want, if any, and if they are members or get them some other way, or if the Collector's Society is even still going and new statues are being made, as I really don't know. I have been out of the loop for some time.

See, back when the Walt Disney Collector's Society started up, I was in High School and not exactly sure what it was about. I thought it was something like what D23 is supposed to be, and so I saved up and joined. I received the Jiminy Cricket sculpture for joining on the first year. I guess it was the first WDCC sculpture ever, and I still have it on my shelf. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my membership. I didn't realize it was purely a club for ordering sculptures waaay too expensive for a high school student, and they didn't even send me all 4 of the magazines, so that was irritating too, ha. They sent me 3, and I called and complained, but still never received the 4th mag I was promised. Anywho, I never renewed my membership since I couldn't afford the sculptures.

Anyway, though I know I will be unemployed again soon when I move in June, I have been focusing a lot on collecting the past few months, and I've actually finally got some more WDCC sculptures! I'm still hunting more, too, but also other animated sculptures like the ones from Electric Tiki and similar companies. In the past few months I have bought:

Slue Foot Sue (wanted her FOREVER! But the lasso moves freely on mine. Anyone know if it's supposed to? I've wondered about that)
the Singing Harp from Fun and Fancy Free, and also a really neat Scrooge McDuck based on the short "Scrooge McDuck and Money". Non WDCC sculptures I have bought recently are Electric Tiki's Betty Boop (very small, black and white version), their Mr. Magoo, and a 40's style Bugs Bunny that is the only sculpture I've ever heard of from the Warner Brothers answer to the WDCC, the Warner Brothers Collector's Guild. Anyone know if they ever made more? Oh, I also got a Zatanna (animated version) sculpture from DC Direct. I've been doing all my shopping on Ebay for this stuff so far.

There are so many others I want to get right now! I'd like to get the rest of the Fun and Fancy Free set of Mickey and the Beanstalk characters! And the previously posted Mermaid Lagoon sculpture is high on my list too! Also the previously mentioned Humphrey and Woodlore, and all the Mickey Mouse Club March set. I also really want Susie the Little Blue Coupe, Pedro the airplane, Amos the Mouse, and one of the sets that include Princess Tiger Lily. Right now I am most interested in sculptures of characters you rarely see merchandise of. I want that Two Chips and a Miss set really badly too. But I also am pursuing some more non-WDCC sculptures, like most of Electric Tiki's stuff (especially their Jessica Rabbit, Rocketeer, and Dick Tracy), and the rest of the DC Direct animated ladies series I started with Zatanna. I want that WDCC Ariel that was mentioned here before too, and TinkerBell in the lantern. Oh, and definitely the Elliott. But back to Electric Tiki, they are working on some great stuff for the future too, like Supergoof, the "Fred Moore Girl", and TRON! So cool! And a Roger to match the Jessica they made from Roller Coaster Rabbit!

Anyway, originally, I was planning to get into collecting snowglobes, but they lose too much water. I do have a gorgeous Tink sculpture I got in London though, which looks very WDCC-ish (bought it at the Disney Store), and it has mini snowglobes on it that I think have kept their water so far. I also have a snowglobe of Oliver and Co., because I don't think WDCC has touched that film. When their are no WDCC sculptures from a film, I intend to turn to other collectibles, as I'd like something from each Disney classic. I have a nice sculpture of Taran, Gurgi, and Eilonwy from Black Cauldron. I also have a very nice Ariel sculpture that looks WDCC-ish which I bought at Disney World, possibly before the WDCC existed (but not sure about that). So, anyway, this is the direction my collecting has gone too, moving from mainly toys to mainly sculptures, but I still collect toys when they are really good and there are no sculptures to be had, or when toys are just the ultimate way to collect (like the classic Pooh collection of plushes I just finished compiling, or the Toy Story Collection toy line).

Oh, I have wondered recently if I should try to get that set (off Ebay sometime) or go with this non WDCC sculpture I've seen (I believe it's from the company that made my Black Cauldron statue) that has Todd and Copper and Big Mama as well. Of course, the WDCC sculptures would look more like the characters, but this other I've seen (on Ebay before) is still pretty good (and cheaper). Still on the fence about that. I find myself wanting both the WDCC pair for Great Mouse Detective and also one or two of the ones they did for that other company too, because they have one that includes Olivia and another that includes Ratigan's sidekick (somehow, his name is escaping me right now; I hate that!).

Oh, those are gorgeous! I definitely want those! I like how you stuck in that Naveen figure too! Looks perfect with that Tiana sculpture! My goal as a collector is to have something representing every Disney animated film (and anything I can get of the live-action stuff and shorts too), but for Princess and the Frog I sadly still have nothing but the soundtrack and a free book from Best Buy. I'm not counting Movies or CDs though, and rarely books. I mainly mean display pieces. That Tiana is definitely on my list.

I stopped collecting several years ago (I'd rather spend the money on trips to DL & WDW) but I have quite a bit from the first few years. I've maintained my membership and I have every issue of Sketches. My favorite pieces are the Princesses (Cinderella holding the bubble, Snow White awakening, and Aurora dancing with the forest animals.) I also really love the Enchanted Places Series in the collection and I have just about all of them. My favorites are the Dwarfs' Cottage, Snow White's Wishing Well, The White Rabbit's House, The Woodcutter's Cottage, and the Castles....

Yeah, I've seen pictures of the Enchanted Places, and they look neat! I definitely want to get all the princesses, as I'm a big fan of Disney girls and will try to get one of each (attractive) female they release (that's why Slue Foot Sue was the first one I actually bought). I am going to have to take a spending break for now, but I did land one more just recently on a whim. I bought Pedro the airplane from Saludos Amigos off Ebay. It was a good deal and I am really into getting characters that you rarely see merchandise of. I so want to get Susie the Little Blue Coupe and Amos the mouse too... Gotta get something with Tiger Lily as well.
