Maybe, but remember, Disney is also considered an electronic babysitter.

I just got this disc and it is great and a lot of fun. I love how it looks on Blu Ray and all the bonus features. It is highly recommended for anyone who likes this movie.

Coming at No. 3 on the DVD sales chart for the week ending March 28 is "The Princess and the Frog".

The Princess and the Frog

Post by Polizzi »

I have no problem with "The Princess and the Frog." I give that movie infinite A+ for that movie. And Dr. Facilier is a fun villain. Evil, but fun. But I do have a problem with Disney wanting to change the title from "Rapunzel" to "Tangled," because they believe that "The Princess and the Frog" did not do as well as they thought it should, but I say it did. They believed that "The Princess and the Frog" is prejudged by the title, but I say it is the story that needs some work, especially when some of the characters are not receiving enough roles. You see, Disney believes that boys do not want to see a movie that has girlish names, but the boys need to "Dig a Little Deeper (according to the song from "The Princess and the Frog")" on the story than just the title, because the story counts more than the title. It does not matter what the name of the movie is, it matters how stories are told that fits to titles. So why cannot Disney just make the story strong for Rapunzel, instead of changing the title to get the boys attention? I hate to say this to Disney, there is no possibility to find out what boys and/or girls like. It is better for Disney to do what they are comfortable with than depending on people to do what they like. After all, great minds think for themselves. That is what the Genie, from Disney's "Alladin," said on Toon Disney commercials, in the year 2000 to I say 2003 or 2004. "The Princess and the Frog" got my attention even though I am a 21-year-old man, and I liked it very much. Even my nephew, Jesse, likes the movie, especially when Dr. Facilier performs "Friends on the Other Side." He turned to me after seeing Dr. Facilier's grand finale on his song and says to me with excitement, "Oo Uncle Jeffrey, scary." He has no problem with scary effects from Disney...maybe. Anyways, I believe that "The Princess and the Frog" did not do as well as Disney hoped it should, because probably Disney accidentally made the story a little bit too girlish, but it is still a good movie. It is just that Disney has left from fairy tale adaptations ever since they wanted to start their own stories like "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," "Lilo and Stitch," "Home on the Range," and "Bolt." I hope I know what Disney is up too, why if I ever wanted to adapt a fairy tale into an animated movie, I would definitely stick to the name of the fairy tale, and try to arrange the story to make it more interesting than typical. By the way, that is what makes Disney special, and I think they did a really great job on "The Princess and the Frog."

Just saw The Princess and the Frog on blu ray. Visually, it looked brilliant. Plotwise, it was a great adaptation, and original. It's not my favorite Disney movie, as I expected, but it's nice to watch and it sends a great message (it left me reminiscing Pinocchio). I'll probably watch it a couple of more times this week so I can absorb all of it. It left me pining for the earlier Disney Renaissance, however.

I was a little pissed when I saw it the first time due to incompetence of the shipping department at Amazon when they sent the movie in a puny, airtight package damaging one of the sides of the cardboard case. Being the OCD freak I am, I was unhappy at it and did the best I could to restore it, but it's still got that crease in it. I didn't feel like wasting valuable time exchanging it for another copy, feeling like a brat, explaining the situation because most likely the same thing would happen again.

Watching it a second time, paying full attention, it left me satisfied. The bonus features were pretty concise, which contrastingly left me unsatisfied seeming more like snippets of behind-the-scenes features only used for promoting the movie, which apparently, they were.

Overall, the blu ray felt very barebones, but the quality still high. I expect some super edition in the distant future. I bet they held back more supplemental features, and seeing as this runs in the same blood line as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin, will reach a potential Special Edition.

Hopefully not too soon! We just bought this one. I will be pretty mad if they re release a better edition, forcing me to double dip. It's not like I have an endless supply of money. :P

Very few DVD sales charts display the number of units sold each week and how much that amounts to in dollars.

"The Numbers" box-office site is about 2 weeks behind in reporting DVD sales on PATF.

As of March 21 they report that The Princess and the Frog made $31,809,268 in it's first week on DVD.

Add $31,809,268 to the overall Box-Office take so far , $269,339,128 and Froggy has generated $301,148,396.

(and there are two more weeks' worth of DVD sales figures that haven't yet been posted on The Numbers.)

By way of comparison, "Bolt" generated $25,577,733 its' first week on DVD. Bolt went on to make a total of $81,884,048 on DVD. Previously "Meet the Robinsons" had made $22,698,232 during its' first week on DVD.

Hey everyone...

So, I finally got the Blu-ray-dvd combo. Actually, how I got it, I don't know. I was planning on buying it next month. Three days ago, a package got to my place in the mail...and inside was the combo pack. Here is the thing: I HAVE NO CLUE WHO SENT IT TO ME. Not too many people have my current address...I keep asking friends, and nobody seems to know anything about it.

Anyway...the reason I wanted to reply, is cause I have been having a few issues playing the dvd and the blu ray on computers.

The dvd plays fine on windows media player, but if I play it on VLC, it skips at certain parts. The image freezes for several seconds, and then continues having skipped a section. I eventually realized these moments were the seamless-branching ones done so the spanish version of the film has things WRITTEN in spanish on screen.

The blu ray plays fine on a regular player, but on a computer....it doesnt play at all! The computer doesnt even detect the data when I open windows explorer.

Btw, this IS a real combo, no bootleg or anything.

Anyone else having these problems? Should I contact that hotline where disney replaces faulty discs?

Well, the DVD plays fine on my computer through MediaDirect. Though when I tried ripping the DVD, the scenes were all jumbled up.

Not sure if this'll help, but I've never actually had a lot of luck with VLC playing DVD's properly, it always seems to skip and freeze on me.

Does your computer have a Blu-Ray player built in? Just wondering.

Yeah, for a blu-ray to play in a computer, you need a drive and software that support the format.

MY computer doesnt have a blu ray player, but the ones at my shcool have blu-ray burners.

Regardless about softwear, shouldnt the computer at least detect the data on the blu ray disc?

As for mediaDirect...thats the ONLY softwear that can run this dvd???? all my other dvds, disney or not, play fine on vlc or window media player...

Again. Has anyone else had trouble?

marce, i tried playing the cars blu ray when i first bought it, just to see what would happen as i dont have a blu ray drive on the laptop. nothing happened. if i recall, the drive didnt even recognise it had anything in it. as a result, i had the movie for about 2 years before i could watch it, lmao.

ive watched disney movies on windows media and maybe real player. i tried to rip the lion king once and ended with perfect visuals, but no audio at all, lol. that was before i got lucky and bought lion king retail. over here, it can go for $150NZD.

Nope, Blu-Rays can only play in Blu-Ray players. So, naturally, your computer won't recognise the disc.

Even if it does know there's a disc in the drive, it won't be able to read the Blu-Ray, since from what I gather, they can only be read with a specific laser.
