No offense to Toy Story fans, as I am one, but I think How to Train Your Dragon has a larger emotional pull. Toy Story 3 is still recycling concepts from its other two movies too. Least with How To Train Your Dragon, its something new and fresh.

I think Tangled would be larger competition than Toy Story 3.

I kind of doubt that Toy Story 3 would win the Oscar (look at us, talking about Oscars already! :P ) just because of the fact that it's not "original." Has a sequel ever won?

So far, I'm saying "How to Train Your Dragon" will absolutely win. But, I really, really hope that Tangled knocks everyones socks off. We'll see...

I had the choice to either see this film or Alice on Friday. As much as I've been wanting to see Alice, I didn't hesitate for a moment to see Dragons. Rey was shocked that I turned down a chance to see Johnny Depp. :p

Anyway, it was awesome. We'd planned on seeing it in 3-D but weren't given the option when we purchased our tickets . . . heh, and I didn't even think about it until we'd hit the concession stand when it was too late. Oh well, maybe that'll be an excuse to go see it again. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the humans much but I felt their designs worked really well. The story was epic and enjoyable . . . and I totally agree with what Siren said in her spoiler text about the ending, it was a bittersweet and fitting touch that I was not expecting.

The animation of Toothless was absolutely gorgeous; he is by far the most expressive, subtle, and believable CG animal I've ever seen. He felt primal, sort of like a cross between a cat and a giant lizard, moving and breathing and behaving like you'd expect a real animal to. I half-expected him to be more like a person in a dragon suit (not in a literal sense of course but you probably get what I mean). And at the same time, you can still sense his intelligence and feel his relationship grow with Hiccup.

I really cannot wait to get by hands on the DVD! :D

Yes, I did. Its started off nice enough, similar to the other two and Up with a little montage of Andy and his toys and then watching him grow up. After the ungrateful bastard dumps them and they escape from the daycare, it goes all down hill from there. First they revisit Sid only to find he ended up in a mental institution, then Rex gets lost in a sex toy shop trying to get direction from a blow up doll, Mr Potato Head and Mrs Potato Head fight about whether they should start a family of spuds, and eventually Woody finds Andy, drunk and passed out with two hookers, one of them was definitely a transvestite, after a binge at the fraternity house. Yeah, How To Train Your Dragon, so much better. 8)

I just don't think Toy Story 3 is gonna be Oscar material. They are recycling old jokes...OMG, Buzz Lightyear thinks he's the real Buzz Lightyears, AGAIN only in SPANISH! I love Toy Story, but its like watching Free Willy sequels. The toys keep getting lost and have to find Andy, the whale keeps needing to be freed. Can't wait till Toy Story 8 when Andy dies and the toys try to find a way to get to Heaven.

.......How did you see it so early? Was there a screening in Orlando I didn't know about? :o

Still haven't seen Dragon - I want to, but I might wait for the dollar theater. I'm on an ultra-low budget, and unless a screening pops up in this area, Kick-Ass is the only film in April I plan to pay to see.

A few parts in the movie reminded me heavily of Spirit:Stallion of the Cimarron. Hiccup chasing Toothless with the saddle is near match to Little Creek chasing Spirit with the blanket. And Hiccup putting his hand out and Toothless nudging it with his nose was also near match to Spirit.

There is a place to watch the movie for free. PM me if you want to know ;) 8)

Same here when I watched that scene!

Same here too! After I saw the film on Sunday, I spent the rest of the day thinking of scenes from it and at one point in the evening started comparing the film to Spirit.
Siren wrote:....leaving Hiccup with a disability says a lot for the story and the character. The execution of showing it was well done too, I was completely caught by surprise when he got out of bed. But how he looked at Toothless and how the dragon helped him go outside, seeing Toothless missing half-tail and Hiccup limping, it really was a beautiful moment in the movie. That they persevered over their disabilities, are heroes, not because of their disabilities but because of their hearts. They made sacrifices for their people and eachother and didn't let that stop them. It's what really made that movie great.
I was very touched by that. Definitely a favorite moment!

Count me in on getting the DVD as well!

I do think Dreamworks finally showed it has its own magic. Its other movies simply don't compare to Dragon. Dragon's story and characters feel far more like Disney of old, but with a lot of Dreamworks touch to show they can stand on their own. But if Dreamworks sticks with this forumla and doesn't keep reverting back to things like Shrek sequels, it may really give Disney a run for their money.

I'm contemplating whether I should see this or not. On one hand, I normally do not see Dreamworks films until they hit DVD, but on the other hand, this one actually appealed to me, ever since that first trailer came out last year. Plus, it is currently 98% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (which does not guarantee anything, but it's a good sign. The new Star Trek was also 95% fresh, and I disliked that film.)

Plus, I'd see it just to support Sanders, as my personal way of saying "I'm sorry Disney ditched you on American Dog!"

Hahahahah I love that picture!

It really does have some Disney magic in there, definitely. I'm just sad to see that their next two movies, Shrek 4 and Megamind look like standard old Dreamworks films. Megamind looks especially God awful, at least based on the teaser.

Anyone who's contemplating on whether to see this or not... go see it. It's worth it. All the amazing reviews aren't kidding.

I agree completely. Its obvious Dreamworks has the means now to have some great stories but they keep reverting back to comedy drivel. Madagascar, Monsters vs Aliens, Shrek sequels....all have good stories, but its the comedy that comes first and that is what is disappointing about them, they serve more to entertain with mindless jokes one after the other, and the story comes secondary. Its makes for a very unbalanced film. Regardless of their commercial successes, they fail in really capturing an audiences imagination. Dragon succeeds on both parts, both to entertain and capture

Just came back from it.

I'll make a quick bullet point list of why I liked it to try and get all you reluctant guys to see it!
-NO Dreamworks' usual jokes. There is ONE, but it was so funny you could care less!
-The beginning of the film was hard to take in because the world is so new and weird. But as the movie goes on, you believe their world and you get engrossed in it.
-I've hated every single Dreamworks film (3D that is) to date and this is the one that I've been waiting for! It's really sad the previews shown before the film are the usual Dreamworks stuff. How to Train your Dragon is NOT.

Everyone, please see it. You won't regret it!
