I've recently become interested in researching my family history, much in part of NBC's new show "Who Do You Think You Are?" which is spun-off from a very similar British show of the same name.
In the first episode, Sarah Jessica Parker found out she was related to someone in the Salem Witch Trials.
Emmett Smith found out he was related to a slave owner.
Lisa Kudrow discovered she was related to a victim of the Holocaust.
That said, this stuff intrigues me, and I want to get as much out of it as possible.
For anyone else interested in ancestry/family heritage, www.ancestry.com is a very good resource.
For anyone interested in the show, Hulu has all the episodes, and they broadcast on NBC every Friday at 8 PM EST.

A lot of people from both sides of my family are into genealogy. I know that I'm related to about 4 Pilgrims, and I'm a distant relative somehow of Merriweather Lewis (Lewis & Clark), or like a relative of a relative. My mom says that we *might* be related to Pocahontas (I guess she's still researching that one). I don't know much else besides that and what ethnicities I am (is that even genealogy-related? If so, on my mom's side, German, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, English, and on my dad's side, English, Danish, Italian).

I've always been interested in looking up my genealogy, and this thread prompted me to join ancestry.com.
While I haven't officially joined with a credit card yet, thus far I've been able to find out exactly when my grandparents on my father's side were born . . . it still boggles my mind that they're only two generations from me yet they're from the 1800's (my grandparents on my mom's side came around much later, in the 1920's).
Something I've already known but would like to find more info on is that I'm distantly related to the Hershey family. I also had a great uncle that was a professional photographer; he did some of the filming for one of Disney's True life Adventures. One of the most exciting moments of getting a Disney DVD was seeing his name in the credits!
And this isn't really genealogy-related, but an interesting part of my family history is that my grandfather, a first-generation American, built one of those infamous Sears catalog houses from a kit and was the home my dad grew up in. It's hard to believe that you used to be able to order a build-it-yourself house from a catalog!
