Sunday, March 28th would be a great time to get out your Mickey Mouse Club Treasures DVD set and watch the nice featurette on the beloved grown-up Mouseketeer, Jimmie Dodd, who was born 100 years ago on March 28th, 1910. That DVD bonus feature captures the high regard that the younger Mouseketeers felt for Jimmie.
His centennial is a special time for the rest of us who love that show and his contributions to remember him upon this milestone occasion. He may not be known that well by today's generations, but whenever you hear "Who's the leader of the club" in a Disney park, Jimmie's "Mickey Mouse March" helps us to forever hold the banner high.
If you're a fan of his gentle, sweet persona and singing style, Amazon recently released the digitally restored "Perri" storyteller record with Jimmie telling the story and singing the movie's songs with Mouseketeer Darlene Gillespie. I'm sure the centennial of his birth won't get much notice elsewhere, so if you still recall these words: "Through the years, we'll all be friends, wherever we may be...." then think of Jimmie on his birthday.
And here's hoping more of his performances can be seen and discovered by new audiences on more MMC Treasures sets or at least made available to fans someway, somehow on DVD!
