Here's what I said in response on their Facebook post... I wonder if anyone actually reads through these...
"With all due respect, how much BAD publicity and angry fans is is going to take to realize that "Tangled" is very much an unwanted title. It will confuse the hundreds of thousands of people that walk through Hollywood Studios at Disney World and are waiting for "Rapunzel" to come out, because that is the title that is STILL being displayed there. There is no need to cheapen yourselves. The LA Times among other credited news sites have posted articles about how the title change is an "attempt" to bring in more males to the theaters, but it will, in the end, not work. Boys are not stupid, Disney. They can easily see that this movie is about Rapunzel. And the ones that are too young to see that for themselves... their parents will be making the decision to see the film or not, and the parents will certainly see that the film is about Rapunzel.
Please, I really hope someone actually reads these comments. Because I'd hope that after reading "change the title back!" in literally every other comment, at least, on here... maybe someone might do something about it.
Regardless of the title, I'm excited to see more material coming soon. I'd love to see a final frame from the movie so we can see what it's actually going to look like, because word is that it looks amazing. And beyond that, an official poster or bios of the minor characters, like sidekicks or the villian, would be great. Excited to see this film, no matter what.
To everyone who keeps saying "I want to it to be in 2D!"... please understand that Disney is well into production on this movie by now. Much of the animation is already done, and 7 or 8 months before a movie is released is not even close to enough time to make a change like that. "Tangled" / "Rapunzel" will be CG animation.
But, while we're on the subject, I really hope that Disney does continue to produce hand-drawn movies. It's what I hope to do with my life, and I'm extremely passionate about it. I'm really excited about the new Winnie-the-Pooh film, and I'm even more excited to hear what's next for John Musker and Ron Clements, who I've heard are working on developing a new story to bring to the screen. But with that said, Disney should always be the studio who pushes the envelope with animation. Keep coming up with new ways to use both traditional and CG animation, and Disney will continue to #1 in my book, if that counts for anything."

So, for my honors thesis I might do a case study on how Disney is marketing "Rapunzel" and if it was successful in the end.
Yesterday, I was talking to one of my best friends about it and I told her how Disney's marketing team was trying to make the title more gender friendly. She said "I see why. I mean if I had a little boy who said 'Mommy, I want to go see Rapunzel,' I might start questioning things."
Well, there ya go. Exactly why Disney is trying to change the title. It all makes sense now. Oh, and please don't me mad at my friend for her comment. She was being honest even though she comes off sounding like a b****, she really isn't.

That just shows another problem with parents these days. On that note, "Tangled" sounds just as girly to me now....tsom wrote:She said "I see why. I mean if I had a little boy who said 'Mommy, I want to go see Rapunzel,' I might start questioning things."

Whenever I state that BATB is my favorite Disney movie or animated film in general, or I simply mention DISNEY, I get the following:
And I usually respond with
Which is then countered with more
Heaven forbid I like a film from my childhood, which sadly was a lot more pleasant than my Middle/High school years and currently my first year of college. I wonder how many concerned mothers in Europe or any where else we're worried about their children watching The Princess and The Frog. I'm sad to say Tangled won't be given a fair chance and will be dismissed as just another "Princess" movie.

It's frustrating. Every time something like that happens, I want to go off on an intelligent rant about what makes Disney movies so spectacular, and the artistry that it takes to make them, and everything that I love about them, to make people maybe understand that "Disney" does NOT EQUAL "Kids"
... but no one takes me seriously, ever. Very frustrating.

Disney is dead
I want to say something about this post.
This is not the title of this film that bothers me. It is the film itself.
I don't know if any of you have read lately the Rapunzel story, but I did because I was really inspired by the concept art that had been spread, and after watching the trailer, I have to tell you that the connection between the Disney version and the brothers Grimm one is completely random! I mean, Rapunzel as a CGI comedy? A prince as a thief? A popy adolescence soundtrack? Give me a break!
The Rapunzel story is such a great piece. I just don't understand how Disney can take this wonderful story and totally ruin it.
You know what? I am glad they've decided to change its tiltle. It is a shame to call that film in the title of that story, because without even seeing it, I know it would be sub-culture. So let it be tangled - a silly title for another annoying silly movie.
I wasn't always not into this movie. When I first heard (years ago) that Disney is planning Rapunzel, I was so pleased and really thought that Disney is back. Well, retroactively I shouldn't have been so happy. beacause they did the opposite of what I was expecting and really managed to upset me. Changing the name to Rapunzel again would just kill the symptom of the Disney disease of making horrible movies these days. You have to kill the root of it. But actually I don't know who responsible for this is. Maybe the root of it lays in the audience which let them feed us this crap.
Disney used to make art. I don't find art in their films these days.
I am sad, sad for the lame step Disney made with the lame "Princess and the Frog" (which lacks a good plot and full with featherbrained humor) and also sad for Rapunzel that should've been the true return of the classics, a classic of endless inspiration, beauty and excitement.
For summing, let me just say:
I HOPE I AM WRONG

On the topic of bad publicity and of Amazon, I typed in "Tangled" on Amazon and it came out with this:sotiris2006 wrote:If you check the product descriptions of "Tangled" books on amazon.com...

I can imagine the shock of children/parents looking for <strike>Rapunzel</strike> Flynn, only to accidentally find/buy what seems to be Flynn getting lewd. That's bad publicity, innit?

DingleHopper:
The pop music in the leaked rough version of the trailer is most likely only in there as sort of a place holder. Movie studios do that very often, because the music that they will actually be using is not ready yet. And also, the fact that it's a "comedy" has been debated a lot. Most people are of the opinion that it is only being marketed as a comedy. Artists working on the film have said many times that the story being told has a very classic feel to it. Obviously, there will be some humor in it, but if it's just the rough trailer that is putting you off, don't get discouraged yet... at least until you see the final trailer.

Hold your horses.
I sympathize, but there are a few things to point out.
1. A lot of Disney's Fairy Tales had drastic changes. Princess and the Frog with it's story, The Little Mermaid with it's ending, and Beauty and the Beast with, well, everything else.
2. That leaked trailer isn't meant to be a final one. It was just a test and we dont know about the pop songs or much of the comedy.
3. PatF was a good movie. Meet the Robinsons was a good movie. Bolt was a good movie. They aren't classics, and I, fdor one, never expected them to be. Just because you dont see it that way only means you have a very close-minded purist view on this issue and that I shouldn't even try to argue with you on this issue.

Glen Keane will be the key speaker at the VIP dinner following the Biola Media Conference on may 1st at the CBS Studio Center. The Biola Media Conference will explore the collision of old and new media as the industry experiences one of the greatest periods of chaos and crisis in its lifetime.
We'll look at how technology and the current economic crisis have set the stage for the collision of traditional models and new digital possibilities. Noting that in periods of dramatic change, often the worst economic times become catalysts for our greatest innovations; we'll explore how creativity, authenticity and innovation will become our pathway to productivity, and how that platform should be harnessed, managed and shared.
Workshops will feature dynamic insider information on story structure with a renowned Hollywood script doctor, the secrets of independent distribution from working producers, and a hands-on tech workshop that examines “Producing Projects in the 21st Century” using tools and technologies available within the last 12 months – and many others.
Set against the backdrop of the world-famous CBS Studio Center Lot in Studio City, CA, the BMC offers you the opportunity to hear numerous front-line speakers, attend career changing workshops, and enjoyed valuable networking opportunities along the New York Street set.
I'm almost certain he will not only talk about Rapunzel there but also show footage from the movie, as he usually shows stuff he's working on at events like this.
People who are in the neighbourhood and would like to attend, you can register for the event at the website, even though I'm not sure if you can register for the VIP dinner... http://www.biolamedia.com/index.shtml
If anyone does see an opportunity to attend, please do report back to us...

Going a bit off topic, but this is the same thing that happens with me. All the time. I haven't exactly hidden my love for Disney, and it results in me being known as 'that girl who watches movies meant for five year olds'. Really? Is Hunchback of Notre Dame (Which is my favourite) meant for five years olds? I think not. Five year olds can watch it, but they won't understand everything in it.

Yeah, I get that all the time. People are going, "Aren't you a little old for Disney?" "Yes. Yes I am."Scarred4life wrote:

Was Disney always considered a "kiddie's company"?
I remember the stories about Hollywood celebrities weeping during the premiere of Snow White. And just look at how dark and mature some of their animated films are, like Pinocchio and Bambi. Some of their more recent films have used jokes and humor that only adults get, like a lot of the references in Aladdin. And their shorts were always played before adult-oriented live-action films.
So where does this myth of Disney as a "kiddie's company" come from? From the animated tv shows, like Disney Afternoon? From toddler stuff like 'Mickey Mouse Clubhouse'? From their endless marketing of the Disney princesses to little girls?
