ponyo, spirited away etc... considered disney?
ive just acquired ponyo on dvd [early birthday present] and cant decide where to place it among my dvd collection?
i have my disney movies in their own tower, with other movies by other companies in a different tower, grouped by animation, kids live action, adults live action, musical etc etc.
would you put ponyo and the others of that style under disney or general animated?

I'd probably put that in a different section altogether (I'm not into anime, so I don't have any of those). I've got 3 Disney sections on my shelf: Disney animated classics (like Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, etc. etc.), disney "other" (like the Pirates movies, High School Musical trilogy, Brave Little Toaster, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.) and the Disney Pixar section, for the Pixar movies... obviously

But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I dont consider them Disney, but more like Pixar, I give them their own distinction.
Anyway, I alphabetize all my movies. I dont organize by studio, but by format, letter, and sometimes by release order(for sequels). It means Im constantly mixing and matching and changing my collection, which keeps it fresh.

Currently, I have to use all available space in my room, so I only have specific sections for Disney and horror (and since I have a lot of both, some stuff isn't in those sections; there's no room). Hopefully, when I move and assuming I find a job, I'll be able to organize things how I want to when my sister and I get a bigger place (first, I'll be staying with her in her small place). In the meantime, I do try to keep things like musicals, Anime, etc... together, I do try to keep the Ghibli films I have together. I don't classify them as Disney, but I try to keep them close to the Disney stuff, as I do hold them in high regard and "related" to Disney, if only in a business way. PIXAR I classify as Disney, but I still keep it all together. I'd shelve it right after the regular Disney animated stuff though. Right now, I have a shelf just for Disney live action. With non-Disney stuff, I tend to prefer to shelve things aphabetically by genre, or chronologically (which is how I have my Disney vids shelved).
good advice... thanks.
i started condensing down my collection due to space issues, so im putting up to 6 movies in a case, and grouping by company where possible.
i tend to organise my movies by esteem. snow white is at the top, and that side finishes in new groove. then the other side starts with toy story, then goes to the treasures line, with ponyo at the bottom [for now] i keep sequels following each other.
the other tower has animaton at the top [ice age etc] then down to adult drama movies, finishing at robin williams. the other side has tv series.
i will probably reorgainise the tv shows side, and put ponyo at the top, so its still with the animated, but apart.
thanks again

I organize mine by studio. So I do put them alongside my Disney dvd's, just like I do with Pixar, Touchstone, Miramax, etc.
My shelve is basically:
1. Disney Feature animation
2. DTV's/Other Disney-produced animation films
3. Disney animated tv shows
4. Pixar
5. Studio Ghibli
6. Live action Disney movies/tv shows
7. Buena Vista
8. Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures
9. Touchstone/ABC tv shows
10. Miramax/Dimension
Wow, I have a whole system going on for me.
