It depend's on what you want...
If its the classic shorts from the Walter Lantz studio's then you can 10 DVD's with Woody on. You have to sign up to columbia House Home Video and they are mail ordered to you.
I'm not sure about the most recent TV show episodes though.

yeah but this is not meant to be a collection of individual theatrical shorts - you are getting vintage episodes from the woody woodpecker show presented as classic t.v. installments so if you take this in context for what it is, i would say that its definitely worth the money.
the prints are not restored but look really amazing and better than youve ever seen them in any medium to date. plus these are currently not available uncut anywhere else unless you collect 16 and 35 mm and universal has absolutely no intentions of doing anything further with these films so i would say you should just go for it and take what you can get, plus you'll find some real gems in some of these volumes.
i just think of it as watching something like the old disneyland anthology shows when they presented character themes where Walt would introduce a cartoon and than cut into the shorts with some edits, its basically the same thing. plus you get vintage film intros with walter lantz as well as black and white news reels with lantz and woody and many shots of the directors (James Culhane, Dick Lundy, Paul Smith, etc) setting up scenes and and offering insight into how the films are produced.
not all of the shorts are edited though, at least %50 are presented in their original form and some volumes more so. i would recommend these if you have any interest at al in the lantz/universal films. that's my 2 cents.

They did try to get the 35 mm prints when they were available for each short. When they weren't available, they were forced to use the television versions, many of which were trimmed. This is the most complete set that you'll be able to get though, or so they say. So it probably isn't going to help to hold out for a better collection. I plan on ordering the set soon myself, after the May Treasures rush.
