I'm very happy that Princess Tiana won't be brushed off to the side as some other princesses are...*cough* Pocahontas and Mulan *cough*... It actually looks like Tiana might be one of the main princesses now. Just look at some of the merchandise!

Ah well. The Uncle Tom's Cabin connection still works for me even if unintended.Babaloo wrote:So I don't know if this has been posted, but it is confirmed in the commentary that this is where Evangeline's name came from.BwayJ wrote:The name may also be referencing the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem "Evangeline," which tells of a woman who searches America for her betrothed only to be reunited just before his death.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"

Did you know that the filmmakers for The Princess and the Frog took more than 50,000 photos of local iconic images to use as reference and inspiration including places like the buildings, restaurants and the garden district.

Did you know that in The Princess and the Frog, Randy Newman provides the voice of firefly cousin Randy, who is a caricature of the composer. Newman was actually cast to voice several characters in the film—a raccoon, a turtle—but only the firefly made the final cut.

Leap of faith: The Princess and the Frog
Disney's landmark new cartoon, The Princess and the Frog, has given hand-drawn animation the kiss of life. Guy Adams reports from the Mouse House
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 70801.html
"The film's apparent success (it made $100m in the US ) has also persuaded Disney to now greenlight at least one new hand-drawn film every two years."
Well, let's hope that Disney won't let 2D die a second time.

Well, within the last month or so, I noticed that the Box Office Mojo only had Princess and the Frogs foreign total at somewhere around $120M (I think) and that a few other box office sites had it higher. Then a week or two ago I checked it again and it hadn't really changed much, so I copied and pasted the Box Office Mojo's foreign totals into a spreadsheet and interestingly enough the total came out at about $159M. Checked it today and it is now $163,521,139 which worldwide would be:
$267,568,280
I believe that Box Office Mojo update the foreign total once they've got a certain amount of data.

Yah I've been checking for a while too, and I think they don't update until they have enough foreign totals up to a certain date. Also I think PatF is coming to its end and wont be making the 300 million, so I think they update it a lot less frequently (explains why boxofficeguru or the-numbers haven't updated in a while). Unless it can make 30 million in Japan, where its still relatively new, I don't think it will make the 300 million. Let's hope I'm wrong!
That's still a good number, but I can see why it may be considered a disappointment at the box office. look how much Bolt made... And you would think that PatF would make more money than Bolt. Oh well! It did well enough...

What's that you say!? TPatF was a success!? Really!? I was under the impression that it was a total flop.... Oh, I guess that's because that's all I was hearing from so many people on this forum for the past long while. See? I told you it was the next TLM.

AAAAUUUUUUUGHHHHH!
The movie is a flop, then it isn't, then it is again, and now IT HAS REVIVED 2D ANIMATION, BUT THEN KILLED IT, THEN REVIVED IT AGAIN!!!
For God's sake, Disney, make up your mind. The fact that you canceled the Snow Queen, and changed Rapunzel's title to Tangled and focused on Flynn due to Frog's apparent failure tells me you aren't confident, but then you go back and celebrate its success and announce Enchanted II while you are at it.
I just want a clear cut answer from them. I hate to be a downer but I suspect that all of this is PR speak to generate hype for future project. If Disney was truly confident in 2D's future and Disney fairy tale films then they wouldn't have altered Rapunzel to appeal to a more male demographic.
Sorry if I am raining down on anyone's parade, but it is getting frustrating trying to figure out what Disney thinks of the film.

Went back and watched it for the 5th time and I finally found the magic carpet! I wonder if there are any other hidden characters?tlc38tlc38 wrote:I didn't notice that...I'll have to go back and rewatch!ajmrowland wrote:Im watching with commentary, and I just spotted Magic Carpet being beaten out in the shot with the title.
I know Ariel's fin & birds from The Lion King are in the movie, I found that while listening to the commentary!
