Thanks for all the replies, it's interesting to see different points of views on all this and how the perception of the general public has changed over the years. I've probably already made my POV clear but Disney movies are probably the only exception I'd make for returning to the theater to see something I already own at home (like going to see The Little Mermaid reissue in 1997). Generally speaking, I don't see going to the theater as an expensive pain (although it admittedly can be) as the movie in question has to be worth it to me. It's not just the big screen I think, it's making an event out of going. I guess I'll always see theatrical movies as a fun, special occasion (especially since I didn't get to go much as a kid), but generally speaking, I don't think a lot of people see it as a special event anymore, or at least not as much as they used to, especially since we have so much more entertainment available within our homes now. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just that time and priorities change.
@ Goliath: Thanks, got it fixed. That's what I get for forming a list in my head instead of finding one to work with. Oh, and I'm glad you liked the old banner (it certainly was a happier one and can still be found in the siggy thread) but I think this new one suits me a little better at the moment.
@ BK: Thanks for the information you've been able to provide. Thus far I've had a lot of trouble tracking down the earlier Beta, VHS, and LD release dates, especially for multiple releases since most of those really predate documentation found on the internet; as you pointed out it's a lot easier to track DVD and Blu-ray release dates. I have a really weird fascination for the history of home video; when I can find more time, I'd love to put some kind of more complete list together.
I would also like to see more theatrical reissues of the DACs! I remember growing up how exciting it was everytime one got reissued to theatres, even ones I had seen already or even owned on tape. Like enigmawing said, it was an exciting event for me, since the DACs are among my all-time favorite movies.
So, I'd still gladly attend for the experience of seeing them again on the big screen, even though I have the DVDs! I certainly LOVED the Toy Story double feature this past summer, even though I already own both in their fabulous 2-disc DVD sets!
Maybe I'm in the minority, but to me a DAC or Pixar reissue to theatres would be like a proven commodity, money well spent. I know I'm going to LOVE the movie before going to see it, versus any other new movie that I may actually end up being disappointed with. And if that happens, you think "I paid 5 bucks (my usual matinee price) and bought a popcorn for THAT?"
Of course, you could also end up loving a new movie and thus have a great movie-going experience, but with a reissue of a movie you LOVE, that's a no-brainer for me.
In fact, I'd say at least 50 percent of the movies I saw theatrically in 2009 were classics I had seen already, (some of which I own) due to my close proximity to the "Classic Movie Series" at the wonderful, independently owned, classic single-screen Prytania Theatre in beautiful Uptown New Orleans. What a GREAT movie-going experience! Unfortunately, none shown there so far have been Disney films, though.
I would love to be able to attend the El Capitan for those DAC screenings!
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney
I'd love to see screenings of the DACs again at the theaters. I was lucky to see The Jungle Book, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, and the elusive Song of the South in 1986.
Sadly, the only time the El Cap shows the DACs, is when there is a home video reissue. This is something that shouldn't be limited to folks down in the LA area only.

I completely agree. I'm always jealous when they play an older film and even for some reason when they would play DTV films I have no interest in. I dont really think that it is all that fair. I love re-releases myself but got to go to very few. I can't recall if I saw Oliver and Company or if I just recall it's promotion at the time but I loved seeing The Lion King in IMAX and the Toy Story films in 3D.
There are always small artisty theaters that play old films but the Disney ones are few and far between. The last one I saw like that I think was The Muppet Movie in the Fall of 2008.

I agree, but at least it's better then nothing!
