Toy Story 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray OUT NOW!!!

It looks like they are pulling a Snow White with the different packaging and doing a DVD + Blu-ray and Blu-ray + DVD. The DVD only releases are no longer listed as well. I'm going to stick with my 2-Disc special editions. If there were a dvd only release I would think it would be a single-disc release and I wouldn't double-dip on that since it would be a substantial downgrade from the 2-Disc release.

I know, thats why I would have to download one that was already ripped for me, which is illegal, I know, but so is ripping dvds yourself if you want to get technical. but its not like I wouldn't already own the blu ray, as well as 3 other copies of both toy stories, so I cant really see it as stealing. I simply want to watch the blu rays on my pcs without a buying blu ray drive.

If you already own the DVD/Blu-ray and just want a digital version of a movie for personal use only, it's not stealing i believe since the company does not lose money. Either you rip the DVD or download a DVD rip from the web, if you have already purchased the current release of the movie, I don't think it's "stealing". On the net you can already find most of the Disney animated films and in DVD quality too. As for Blu-ray rips, you'll probably have to wait until the technology gets cheaper and blu-ray dominates the market which means most computers coming out with a default blu-ray drive and people being able to afford them.

I'm sorry Iceflash, but I'm having a problem with your logic. From what I can remember, the main reason you are against Blu-ray is because it will "force" everyone to rebuy their collections on the new format - therefore I can only assume rebuying and double dipping is bad in your mindset.

However, here you are implying that should Toy Story 1 and 2 be released on DVD as multi-disc sets the same time as the Blu-ray release (or soon after), you would be willing to "double dip" on the DVDs. In other words, you're happy to re-buy a film on the same format with a minimal upgrade, but you're not willing to buy the films on Blu-ray?

I know Blu-ray players cost more (but can be purchased reasonably cheaply at the moment) - but in this case, the 2 Blu-rays are likely to be cheaper than rebuying 2 DVDs thanks to Amazon's Multi-Buy offer.

Now to get it in the DVD case or not. I might get the BD case since the other Pixar BDs are in a BD case and it'll match but I'm not sure.

That's what I was thinking. I got the Snow White Diamond Edition in the DVD case but I have a feeling the Diamonds will keep having that option for a while. If I'm not mistaking I think that was the one people actually bought most. Since I'm going to get more Pixar combos I might as well have them match.

@Kyle: Like with the Snow White Diamond edition, they are releasing the Toy Story 1 and 2 combos in a DVD case and in a BD case.

Like Snow White last fall, both blu-rays for Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will be available in a standard blu-ray case and a DVD case. Exact same disc, just different cases.

Can now confirm that the Toy Story BR retains all old special features except the 'Colour' segment for now.

Evidence? DVDBeaver has it captured in a screenshot so unless they put that somewhere else instead of its own section it's missing. Could be in a PiP commentary or whatever but I don't think this one has one?

Are you talking about the Blu-ray ones, cause I think they look pretty cool. Plus they take up less shelf space, unless this is a 3 (or 4) disc set as it should be (two BDs and a DVD/ Digital Copy disc), which I suspect, then Disney will put it a fat case (which I don't get, both Warner and Paramount have been able to fit 3 discs in a normal size BD case, and Disney has done in rare cases).

This is slightly off topic but how do Toys 'R' Us's prices normally compared to Best Buy's or Walmart/Target's prices for BDs when they first come out? I'm trying to weigh the difference between pre-ordering at Toys 'R' Us or getting them at Best Buy.

If you're talking about BD cases then I agree when they are without a slipcover. With a slip cover I don't think they look nearly as bad.

Why on earth would this need 2 BDs? Warners frequently get a movie and up to 4.5 hours of SD supplements on a BD25!

From the UK edition which I recieved today you get the film in HD, all new supplements all in HD and (from memory only) all of the SD supplements from the 10th Anniversay release. Sadly, there's no browsable picture galleries. But nothing that would tax a BD50.

I know for some odd reason Monsters Inc used 2 BDs, but I can't think it was required - but then again, Disney also used a BD50 for the Pixar Short Films Collection Vol 1 - something which definitely could be done on a BD25 there was so little content.

How much does anyone think they'll cost on the shelf on release day at Best Buy? (I'm not familiar with how much the price of combos are lowered on release day.)
