Advice on collecting Disney Treasures?

Post by snowbot »

Hey guys, I know the topic of Disney Treasures has probably been run into the ground, but I'm not sure what to do about completing my collection. Plus, I'm sure a lot of the info on the old forum threads is outdated now.
So, here's where I am- I own both the Silly Symphonies and Mickey Mouse in Living Color Vol 1 in the tins. What is the best (and most affordable) route for completing my collection? Should I even worry about the tins? Should I buy them all at once, or individually? What should I make my priority? And what route should I take in acquiring them (e-bay, dmc, amazon, etc)? Hope I'm not beating a dead horse here. Thanks for the advice!

At this point either buy the set of seven at Costco if you can still find them.

Even if the are individually released, which they supposedly will be without the tins it may cheaper than buying the five individually.

I agree w/ you guys. Cosco is the best choice. If you try Ebay, be careful. many people unfortunately sell bootlegs and stuff. I bought The Complete Goofy in half.com a year ago and I paid $ 50. Not bad for it, since it's out of print. I only buy on ebay from people who have a very good feedback background. Which to me means: if they have only 96% positive feedback, I asume that I cannot trust them.
Just a note, since many people have had problems on Ebay.
Can't wait for my may 18 release of the Treasures... :D

I checked the website too and found that they were not listed anymore. Perhaps it's because the release date of Wave 3 is just around the corner. If you did want to go the Costco set route, I guess your best bet would be to go to the stores. (But you're a smart cookie, you probably could've figured that out for yourself... :) )

Other than that, your best and pretty much only other bet is buying the individual dvd's off of somebody, such as ebay/half.com. With their original release date getting futher and further in the past, and the new releases coming right up in a few weeks, they will only get harder and harder to find.

According to both joblo.com and dvdadvice.com they will be released again in individual releases without the tins. I would hold your horses since Disney says it was the tins that were collectible and limited, the content is not.

I think we will see them again before the year is out.

So really, the costco set isn't so much of a collector's item- it's the numbered tins that are good to have. Right? Maybe I will stick with what I got, and try to get my hands on the tins, if that's still possible without taking out a bank loan! :| Although, if they are too expensive in tins, maybe I will just hold my horses and buy the re-released stuff. I'm not really much of a collector, anyway, I really care about the content more than anything. thanks for the advice so far!

I got mine not that long ago from the Disney Movie Club. I'm pretty sure they still have them.

How much are the tin editions when they are released in stores? I would imagine that these releases would be significantly cheaper, but you never really know.

I would imagine the non-tin versions will sell for Disney's standard $29.99 price. The tin versions sold for $32.99. It's not as if the limited editions had a premium price (as I said in another thread).

That's right, they are still at the Disney Movie Club. You do have to buy the sets together, Wave 1 as a set and Wave 2 as a set. A little over $200 but you do get all of them, and that would give you an extra one of those that you already do have to sell or trade. If you go look on the website, you have to go to the Multi-packs section to see them.

Considering that I did not even own a DVD player until last fall, I definitely missed out on these treasures. But they interest me very much, and i would like to somehow obtain them... even if it means waiting 5 years till they reissue them.

Then I heard about the set available at Costco, unfortunately I there seems to be no Costco within the 50 mile radius that they offer on their site...but with a little bit of searching i found a link to that set of the first seven at costco...

http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?trg= ... 36909&log=

however, just for kicks i decided to proceed to check out to see the final cost with shipping and everything, and it told me that the set was no longer available.

Guess I'll just have to wait a couple years

I got my Walt Disney Treasure Set at Costco last year.
I was so excited with the set.
Snowbot it's up to you if you have the money to buy the set.
It's very expensive you know.
Maybe Costco might still have them, the area where I shop they don't have them anymore.
But you could also try E-bay just be careful with the bootlegs.
This is a very very well set for collectors like myself.
I'm planing to buy the Walt Diseny's Treasure Tins Wave 3 this month at Costco.
Other stores that might still carry it is Best Buy, Borders and Fry's.

First off, welcome Majosha!! :D

Remember all seven with the tins are still available at the Disney Movie Club, at least as far as I know.

well, my search is over! i called my local costco and they are out of stock, but i ended up buying the same box set from a seller on e-bay for a reasonable price.
which means that i'm pretty sure i don't care about the tins, so i may sell the two dvd's i've got with tins now. this is so confusing.

Do as you please, but since you seem to have the Silly Symphonies set and the first Mickey Mouse set already, it shouldn't be that hard to complete the collection of Treasures with tins, as these two are the hardest to get anyway.

That's true, it's just that I would be paying a significant amount of $$ more for just the 5 that I need (with tins) compared to all 7 of them without tins. So.... no tins for me. :|
But that's okay, because I'm just really excited about watching these suckers! Hours of great entertainment, I'm sure. I love Disney. :)

I was in a similar situation having 3 of the 7, and I purchased the set from costco. They don't have the tins, but are it's own set...And much cheaper than going the ebay route...

Just being curious; is that "Costco set" an "unlimited" release now? From the start I had the impression that this was just assembled from "leftover" copies with damaged tins.

They don't have it for sale on their site anymore, and from what people have been saying, they don't have the set in the stores anymore, so it probably was only limited to just the leftover copies.
