Favorite Disney Outfit?

Post by Disney Duster »

Toni wrote:The blue thing above the skirt and below the cleavage allows a softer switch from the purple to the white and just looks good. Also, I like period pieces.
But how does a dark blue make a soft transition from white to dark purple? The blue looks darker than the purple to me.
Disneykid wrote:* Cinderella's ballgown, which is my favorite of all the costumes Disney's designed. It's classy, modern (though still fits with the period) and unique. Too bad the theme park version of this is crap (not to mention most of the merchandise recreations like clipart, dolls, and figurines).
Agreed and agreed! Well said!

Princess: Cinderella's my #1. The fairy did say "something simple, but daring, too!" I like seeing a lot of girls' neck and what's under their neck, and the black choker does add some sexiness (right xxplinkxx?). And the fact that the dress is silver makes it unique among the other more common colors, and the fact that it turns blue in darkness is really cool! Plus her headband thingy is interesting. I always wondered if it was supposed to be a real headband or a ribbon or if it was connected to her earrings like some really unique tiara. It was called a headband on a model sheet. Oh, and I forgot, her dress sparkles when she moves! Her dress is a masterpiece of design, magic, elegance, holiness and beauty.

I also like her pink dress, but I like it more when it's torn. I really, really like it when it's torn. A lot.

Anyway, I like Aurora's blue dress second best, once again you see her shoulders, so that's pretty hot. I really like the angles and lines and it's very sharp. It's like a pointy dress which is unusual.

I guess Belle's yellow gold dress comes next, it really is a masterpiece. But I also like her Enchanted Christmas one a lot!

Ariel's tail is awesome, but I can't count that, so I guess her pink one, then, but the blue one Triton gives her is really special. Maybe that's my favorite. It does sparkle! And like jeremy88 said, there's something about her ship sail dress!

Live-Action: Brandy's Cinderella dress from the Roger's and Hammerstein version.

Wedding: Cinderella's again, but I actually like the one from Cinderella III better because it's got more to it and it was made by the fairy godmother. It actually has bows and ribbons as a homage to the dress the mice made in the original. The only thing I don't know how I feel about it is the veil crown. I don't like the point in the middle, but it does feel more like a crown because of it, so it represents her royalty and I like that. I also forgot that her veil sparkles, too!

I like the Prince's white outfit with the sword on his belt from Cinderella III. I like it mostly for the sword and gold sheath, but the white looks nice. Very classy, white and gold together.

Ariel's wedding dress is really nice, but did anyone notice it has the same waist trim that Aurora has, all jagged and pointy?

Giselle's wedding dress is also very nice, I would like it more than Ariel's, except for the dang butterflies. Seriously, those butterflies are in the same places that the butterflies are on Glinda the Good Witch's dress, and the fact that both dresses also have puffy sleeves makes me think they stole the idea from Glinda. So for that it may be that Ariel's does go above this dress. It's hard to decide.

Prince: Prince Edward's from Enchanted is #1. I'm one of the few people who likes the oversized sleeves, but I love the gold swirly designs. I also love his belt with a sword. His boots are really nice, and I like wearing boots.

I think Phillip's costume when he dances with Aurora comes second.

I also like Cinderella's Prince's riding outfit, actually, from Cinderella III.

Villains: Maleficent's is #1. I don't need to do much explaining here. The best part, of course, is the purple flame sleeves...are they sleeves?

Next would be Ursula's costume, but she arguably doesn't have a costume because it's attatched to her body. I like her mostly for her jewelry, though, namely the gold nautilus shell.

I think I'm going to really like Queen Narissa's costume from Enchanted, but I don't know because it has this scaly skirt that reminds me of fish...

Vanessa's first blue outfit, that Disney's Divinity reminded me of. It's very sexy, and it's somewhat like Aurora's and Ariel's peasant dress (meant to be a more evil, sexually aggresive Ariel dress?) but it doesn't have much of a top or sleeves so it's way sexier. It looks coolest with the blue cape hanging on her shoulders.

The Evil Queen Grimhilde has a cool looking outfit and it I like black and purple of course.

Lady Tremaine's outfit gets a mention. My favorite color is purple, but I don't know if I like the original red version more or the Cinderella III purple version more. Either way, the green brooch is really nice. I also like the one she wears in Cinderella's early years, that's purple and it has this diamond shaped thing around her waist with a loop design on it. There's an even cooler version of it in Twice Charmed.

I have to mention, I've always thought the Queen of Hearts had a really cool looking outfit. Lots of contrast with the black, red, and gold.

And just because I feel I should do a male villain, the Horned King's costume would be my favorite of the bad guys, but it mostly has to do with his actually body, his skull head and horns. But I really love fur, and that furry thing around his neck is hot. Plus I like hoods.

Fairies: The Fairy Godmother is probably my favorite. I said I like hoods, hoods are cool, and the fact that the sleeves of her shawl has pink on the inside and blue on the outside is interesting.

Any of the Three Good Faries' outfits is next. If I had to choose, perhaps it would be Flora's because it is red and gold, and I like gold, and it's more contrasting than just shades of the same color.

Next would, I suppose, be The Blue Fairy, because it is sexy but also everything's so beautiful. Does she have a ribbon in her hair or a headband, the dilema of Cinderella? Hmmm... I like it best for the transparent cape-like sleeves or whatever, but the whole thing is really brilliant. Also, it sparkles!

The Enchantress from Beauty and the Beast gets a mention for her great green and gold gown but I don't know where she would be placed in my favorites because you only see her in stained-glass!

Good call on the Blue Fairy's costume. I had completely forgotten! I haven't watched Pinocchio in a while I guess. I need to reevaluate her hotness, ha. I never was too big a fan of her voice though. But, am I the only one who finds headbands/hair ribbons sexy? Ha.

Yea, The Blue Fairy's hot. It's hard to tell if she's in her 20's or older because her voice and the way she acts seems to be characteristic of an older age than she appears. But she's probably magically hot and can live for many many years, being a fairy. Also, the film was made in the 40's and maybe even young women acted that way back then?

As for headbands and hair ribbons being sexy, oh yes. They actually are. Especially in black hair, I think. Snow White has something going for her.

Hey, did the Disney artists have a blond hair with blue headband fetish? The Blue Fairy, Cinderella, Alice?!

I think Alice had a black ribbon in her hair.

Yes, I believe women in their 20s were much more mature back then than they are today. If there's one way in which I don't feel society has progressed much (in fact, totally regressed), it is the level of maturity in relation to age. Of course, there are exceptions.

I've always loved really big flowing cloaks, and there's one disney character who's famous for it - the Wicked Queen from Snow White - have you seen the part where she storms down the stairs into the dungeon with it swirling behind her - so cool, yet stern and controlled. I guess that's my favourite disney outfit. Come to think of it, I've always liked that one - don't know why I didn't think of it sooner!

Disney Duster reminded me of one I didn't think about: Cinderella's pink dress. Although this might sound strange, I find it much more beautiful than her silver one. And, plus, I always get attached to that dress along with Cinderella considering it's torn by her stepsisters and that it was also her mother's.

Also:
Next would be Ursula's costume, but she arguably doesn't have a costume because it's attatched to her body. I like her mostly for her jewelry, though, namely the gold nautilus shell.
That's namely why I didn't include her, though I love her design (of course, I love everything about that character). And I always hope that one day I'll find a shell that closely matches the one she wears. Her earrings are interesting, too. Whenever I draw her, for some reason I can never get those quite right...
Lady Tremaine's outfit gets a mention. My favorite color is purple, but I don't know if I like the original red version more or the Cinderella III purple version more. Either way, the green brooch is really nice.I also like the one she wears in Cinderella's early years, that's purple and it has this diamond shaped thing around her waist with a loop design on it.
I forgot about that one. Which makes me wonder why it never gets used again, since it's a very striking color on her.
The Enchantress from Beauty and the Beast gets a mention but I don't know where she would be placed in my favorites because you only see her in stained-glass!
What I find interesting about the Enchantress is that she looks entirely different in The Enchanted Christmas. Whereas in the stained glass she has a crown, a wand and a green dress, TEC gives her a white dress (similar in looks to that of Ariel's nightgown), a headband and glowing eyes with no crown or wand. Both designs look nice though.

Well I came in here way late to just comment on the changing of the Enchantress' costume for the Enchanted Christmas.

They probably thought that since she was only in stained-glass windows, they could do whatever they want with her design in "real life". Yea, no.

We know just how much the stained-glass windows differ from real life from this example:
Image

It seems the colors can change a little bit, and maybe a crown can be there or not there.

So let's see...this comparison is okay (they even did her weird right eye!):
Image

But this one, not:
Image

Her dress should at least be the same design, and fuller. And a headband, really, back in those times? What is she a hippie? And no wand? C'mon, that's how she performed her magic.

I'm just scratching my head at how they think they could make her so different.

She actually reminds me of the Fates from Gargoyles (in TEC). Anyway, yeah, I like how they designed her old lady form--it looks much more sympathetic, so you get the reaction: "How could he possibly have refused that poor, little, old lady shelter?!"

Overall, I didn't really mind the change, tbh. They probably considered the green dress hard to animate, etc. for a sequel's budget, and went with a quick and easy look.

Haha, pretty much all of the outfits.

1. Belle's yellow dress, and her blue one, from the beginning.
2. Cinderella's ball gown
3. Aurora's pink/blue dress
4. Ariel's wedding dress
5. Mulan's outfit when she is saving the Emperor.
6. Tinkerbell's dress
7. Wendy's nightgown
8. Giselle's wedding dress (animated)
9. Jane's outfit when she's swinging through the trees
10. Tiana's wedding dress

11. Prince Philip's outfit
12. Peter Pan's outfit

And that's it for now, until I think of more.

Let's see...

Cinderella's Gown- simply gorgeous. It's a shame Disney doesn't represent her dress better in the parks and on the merchandise because no Princess's dress really tops Cinderella's.

Ariel's Outing Dress- The simple, little blue thing with Ariel's hair tied up in a pony tail. I think this dress is much prettier than the pink dress, or even her wedding gown.

Belle's Peasant Dress- I don't know, but there's something about her that makes her really sexy when she's wearing this thing, especially during the wolf chase when her hair is down and she has that cape on. Probably just me...

Mary Poppins Wardrobe- My favorites: Mary's gray coat, the one she wears when she first flies in. Just iconic, and the hat and everything, great! Then there's the Spoonful of Sugar scene. When I was younger this was my favorite part of Mary Poppins so when I think of her, it's usually in that outfit with a little robin on her finger. But my very favorite- the orange petticoat during "Chim-Chim-Cheree" and "Step in Time". Great!

Oh and if we're going to talk about Peter Pan- his outfit has always bothered me. I may be too particular, but I like a really organic Peter Pan, with a tunic weaved of leaves, and a mass of curly red hair intertwined with twigs. I also like a slightly pudgier Peter Pan, not the skinny Disney version. I basically just describe the common illustrator's Peter Pan but I do prefer the natural Pan over Disney's tights and swashbuckling one.

EDIT:

Now that you mention it, I wonder if the Enchantress design in Enchanted Christmas may have been directly influenced by Gargoyles' "Weird Sisters", as Kath Soucie voiced both roles...

Maybe you're right Divinity, but I would think for the few seconds she's on screen a more accurate dress and a wand would not be too hard at all. I did love how they staged that scene, though, the glowing eyes, her voice, the sound effects. For some weird reason, the way I remembered that scene was just her beautiful face and hair, giant-sized, floating in all that pink mist as she cast her curse. That scene was almost scary when I first saw it, and how I remembered it. I felt rally bad for everyone getting cursed by the scary enchantress. Rally bad.

UmbrellaFish, I think that both Peter's and Tinker Bell's green (hint hint) leaf-like fringed (hint hint) outfits are supposed to resemble leaves without that detail that would be hard to animate. Though it would make sense for even kids to want to be wrapped in cozy cloth, real warm fabric...

I might as well say I like both of their costumes, as well. I think Peter's leaf-like tunic is neat!

They obviously try to emulate that, but it's still fabric, and I've always wondered how Peter would have been able to get him the fabric, much less sew it together (of course, in J.M. Barrie's book, one could justify such an idea because there have been other "Wendies" who could make for him such an outfit). I can live with Tink's dress as it could very well be one whole leaf, and I've never had any problems with her's, but there's no way Peter's clothes are organic like that.

It's only a little nitpick, and then again, I'm biased. I've never like Disney's Peter Pan's design much at all.
