Anyone watch any of this new series this weekend? I'm a big fan of the original Japanese show, so I gave this one a chance. It was pretty good and I'll continue to watch it. It was better than the other one we had that was hosted by William Shatner.
This version is hosted by Chairman Takashi Kaga's nephew and it retains many of the same things contained in the original. Our Iron Chefs are Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck and Mario Batalli. The first challengers are Masahiro Morimoto (Iron Chef Japanese) and Hiroyuki Sakai (Iron Chef French and King of Iron Chefs.)
They are repeating them all tonight and every night at 11 PM Eastern this week on Food Network. Check em out!

I'm a big Iron Chef fan, too. I have watched the first two ICA battles so far. My Tivo is setup to record the other two.
I agree, this is much better than the cheezy Shatner version.
I won't spoil it by saying the results, but I do find it very interesting that the Food Network is allowing you to go online and vote for the chef you think should win -- both of the first two matches had a mismatch between the judges' choice and the people's choice. Then again, those of us at home aren't lucky enough to be able to taste the dishes!!!

I am currently watching the Wolfgang/Morimoto egg battle, I assume you are as well or are TiVoing it. Its pretty good, I can't wait for the tag team match that is coming up next.
I would like to try Mormoto's restaurant sometime, it is in downtown Philly so it's not too far away. Seems like the prices are a little high, but the restaurant itself looks really cool and I am sure the food is great.

I'm a big fan of Iron Chef but, I miss the first airings of the Iron Chef Americans vs. Iron Chef Japanese.
I'll just tape the show since it's starts late.
Thanks for reminding me Maerj.

The judges pretty much suck.
They do not seem to understand the concepts of plating and originality. I can not believe how the points went in those categories.
Also, several judges displayed a lot of ignorance and bias regarding the food itself. How could Food Network choose a judge who would be reluctant to try some of the dishes?
BTW, FYI judge, many decorative garnishes are not supposed to be eaten, abalone is ALWAYS chewy, and you need a new watch if you think that was 5 minutes.

I love Iron Chef, I was dissapointed by the overproduction of the america version.
I dont think all those gadgets are neccessary if you are a good cook.
( I love to cook myself)
The Japanese take the art seriously and I think that skill with basic tools is a very important skill to master. Plus I dont like the club like lighting.
kinda cheesy. I have to say that I still cant stop watching,
but mostly for morimoto and sakai. I think they are classy experts, and incredibly talented. Boo for Flay if anyone is taking a poll. ( ooh! ~ who is your favorite Iron chef!) my vote: SAKAI!!!!!!

Jules: You know the shows on TV?
Vincent: I don't watch TV.
Jules: Yeah, but, you are aware that there's an invention called television, and on this invention they show shows, right?
