2010 winter olympics

Post by bradhig »

Anyone else watching the olympics? I was watching short track speedskating and Apollo could win another medal tonight tying him for the most medals won by a US Athlete with my favorite all time winter olympian Bonnie Blair I have followed her since Calgary 1988. Anyone else saddened by the death of that Russian guy in the Luge?

I'm a HUGE Olympic fan. I actually count down every two years so I can watch them. And everyone who knows me, knows that they won't see me for the duration of the Olympics. During the opening ceremony, I sat on the couch and watched them with all my Olympic gear. Too bad I'm not good enough in a single sport to actually be an athete at the olympics :(. And I'm really excited since it's in CANADA this year!

And I was so happy they had a moment of silence for the Georgian athlete during the ceremony. He was so young!

I actually love both of them. I love watching athletes trying their hardest for the their countries. I think atheletes from both Olympics should be praised in the same way. They all work and train hard for the pride of their country.

Being a BC taxpayer, of course I'm watching them, and next Sunday I'm heading over to Vancouver to check out some of the action. I don't have tickets to any of the events, but there is a ton of free events happening around Vancouver, in Richmond, and in Surrey.

I hope that these games can pick themselves up. So far they've had bad luck with the tragic accident on Friday (RIP Nodar), the lighting of the indoor cauldron (and almost the outdoor one too due to the rain), and of course the weather. It's just a bad winter for Vancouver and all of BC in general. I've never seen weather this strange and so mild. If the games were held last year, it would've been perfect. We had colder temperatures and sunny weather.

I did love the opening ceremony on Friday. I think it was one of the best winter games openings I've seen.

Man I used to have crush on Bonnie Blair and it nearly drove me over the edge. Never met her yet and wish I could. I have been following her since 1988. I would rather watch long track speed skating over short track anyway my mother calls it roller derby on ice.

Last night during the men's figure skating (short program), a few guys skated to music from Fantasia/2000:

Kevin van der Perren of Belgium skated to "Night on Bald Mountain" wearing a skeleton suit. He's wasn't exceptionally great, but it was a fun performance to watch, mainly because of the music.

Evan Lysacek of the United States skated to "The Firebird" wearing a more raven-black themed costume than firebird. His performance was awesome! I'm rooting for him to win the gold. :)

* BTW, previously in pairs skating, Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo of China also danced to "The Firebird" and they won gold! Could this be true of Evan Lysacek too?

Apollo Anton Ohno won bronze last night breaking the record for the most medals won by a US olympian after being tied with Bonnie Blair for a while I don't like him at all. Short track is just to much bumping and pushing.

I honestly kinda couldn't care less about the Olympics. Although it is kinda cool there in Canada this year. Ive only watched a bit of the opening ceremony and men's figure skating.

Was the winter olympics in Calgary 1988 before your time?

I don't like those overpaid gladiators people watch all the time who care more about money then the game. Why was there a baseball strike in 1994. Did any of the olympic athletes want a big signing bonus before they competed in the games no. You know what is funny Bonnie Blair tried to get tickets to the USA vs Canada hockey game and couldn't. Her son said "but your an Olympian and won five gold medals. " Bonnie replied "Doesn't matter I still can't get tickets.

Here watch this it cracks me up.

OK, OK, I've done my research, and there doesn't seem to be any connection at all.....

But has anyone else notice the disturbing resemblance that Meryl Davis has to the late Virginia Davis!? They seem to have very, very similar faces! (especially the eyes and the mouth) Please tell me I haven't gone insane.... I'm not the only person seeing this, am I?

anybody see the woman's giant slalom yesterday? Stupid boneheaded officials ruined Julie Mancuso's chance at winning because they put two people on the run at the same time when vonn crashed they stopped Mancuso stupid idiots.

While watching the women's slalom last night I heard the announcer lady say something like "...it's all Mr. Toad's Wild Ride now!" She was emphasizing how crazy messed up the hill was, the snow was practically slush. Still, amazing race.

Best of the night was speed skating:
Three cheers for Apollo Ohno with 8 Olympic career medals!

Did anyone else see the women's team pursuit semifinals of USA v. Germany?
rotfl
(for those of you who missed it, the Germans won, even though the girl in the back tripped and just slid across the ice... it was pretty funny)

One thing I don't like about slalom is they keep hitting the poles. Their supposed to go through the gates not through the freaking poles. I can't stand it.
