Essential Blu Ray library

Post by disneyfella »

I'm pretty addicted to Blu Ray, now, and have been building a modest Blu Ray collection. It is nowhere near the over 1500 DVDs I own (not to mention the VHS), but I was wondering.....if someone were just getting into the Blu Ray collecting market as late as I am, what are the essential titles I should look for? What are the best Blu Ray Discs available, or soon to be released?

Any Blu-rays of the DACs, obviously. And the Pixar movies too.
I don't really know what your tastes are, but titles like The Godfather, Blade Runner, The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind should be in every collection, and those all look and sound great on BD.

I find that movies that are filmed with low lights look a lot better on blu. like sleepy hollow - the contrast is A LOT better

^That's subjective to the tv you have. Sleepy Hollow wouldn't look perfect on an LCD, if that was the tv.

Now, of course Pixar films and DACs. Enchanted, for the D-Files. A couple tv shows are good on blu. The Harry Potter Ultimate Editions are nice, if not perfect. and the Ultimate Matrix Collection. And remember, the theatrical Lord of the Rings trilogy is coming. Anything with significantly more bonuses than the DVDs.
