Again, just like with 2D animation, why does Disney hate themselves? They actually have something good going and they kill it off?!

These sets have been selling very well this whole time, in fact I dare say they should have made more of a few of them! As has been shown by other fans here, there is enough material worth putting in this series to make Treasures for a few more decades!

If they do this and don't make any more, it will be one more knot in the noose that Disney is making for themselves. Hope they avoid it!

I hope the rights holders realize they have an obligation to the general public to continue to honor and make available the creative legacy of Walt Disney's film library. It's a cultural heritage that belongs to all of us, not just an asset on a spreadsheet.

Well, it would be a sensible release, since more people have heard of the film's undeserved reputation than have actually seen it. So, if it was a mainstream release, let's say, the "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Edition," (since that's the only thing familiar from the film for most people), I'll bet a lot of people would probably raise an eyebrow and then walk on by. It would probably do better as a release geared toward fans.
I totally agree!! Lately, my train of thought has been the Treasures are the most likely place we'll see SOTS. I only own a couple of Treasures, but I would be willing to help with the campaign in any way I can.

If a year passed and they had not sold out, well that's a horse of a different color. It's obvious at this point that a letter writing/email campaign is in order here.
But look how fast Donald Vol. 4 and Dr. Syn sold. Season 2 is still available and every Best Buy within 2 hours of here has both also.

With a series marketed as much as it was to Disney fans, it says a lot it could not move the 30k units. I really do wonder how much of sticker shock was the reason for this and the possible end of the series. Jumping from $20-$25 all the way up to $50 is huge and is also insane for a TV show season these days.

Selling out on Amazon to the point of not being able to reorder -- in only 3 months -- is a great achievement, especially with the price-point and zero marketing. Zorro has great appeal to baby boomers at large - - too bad they don't roll these things out to the general public at popular prices. So many never know they are available.

I think a boxed set Ludwig VonDrake (all 18 Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color episodes) should be next. They could do a 3 color tin - - or 3 different colors of tins!

Yeah, an email campaign should do.

Hopefully, they'll realize the baby boomers are still out here in need of this reassuring material.

I think the reason it took longer for the "Zorro" sets to sell out, as opposed to Dr. Syn or Chron-Don for example, was because Zorro had previously been available to fans via the Disney Movie Club. I'm sure there's no shortage of hard core Disney fans in the Disney Movie Club, and as someone above stated, the hard core fans are the primo targets of the Treasures.

You stay out of this, Mr. I-Don't-Know-Anything! :x
Hmmmm....I can't remember which thread you responded in so I'll reply here.

This is Disney's catalogue Blu-Ray output:
1937 Snow White
1940 Pinocchio
1959 Sleeping Beauty
1984 Pixar Short Films
1990 Pretty Woman
1993 Nightmare Before Christmas, Iron Monkey
1994 Legend of the Drunken Master, Clerks
1995 Crimson Tide, Nixon
1996 Rock, Sling Blade
1997 GI Jane, Con Air, Chasing Amy
1998 Enemy of the State, A Bug's Life, Waterboy
1999 Sixth Sense, 10 Things I Hate About You
2000 Dinosaur, Gone in 60 Seconds, Remember the Titans, Scary Movie, Coyote Ugly, Unbreakable
2001 Jay and Silent Bob, Pearl Harbour, Monsters Inc.
2002 Hero, Chicago, Reign of Fire, Rookie, Gangs of New York, Signs
2003 Kill Bill 1, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Recruit, Bad Santa, Zatoichi
2004 King Arthur, Ladder 49, Finding Neverland, National Treasure, Hidalgo, Shall We Dance?, Kill Bill 2, Miracle
2005 Brothers Grimm, Chicken Little, Dark Water, Flightplan, Great Raid, Casanova, Goal, Sky High, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Narnia, Sin City, Greatest Game Ever Played

Out of those 12 of them were released in 2006 in the initial format burst.
Another 14 were in 2007 before Blu-Ray took over.
So 26 out of 62 were released pre-2008. That means 36 were after BR was the way to go.
By comparison Warner Brothers are releasing 34 catalogue releases just in 2010. They were behind Disney in the BR bandwagon.
If you go to bluray.com they have around 360 releases, Disney has 220 but almost half the list is filled with delayed releases, cancelled releases, box sets of previously released movies, movies which might come out, multiple versions of the same movie (6 for Snow White alone).
So why don't you just shut your trap if the only retort you're going to make is childish and immature.

Re: The new Treasures-style tin release of Swiss Family

disneyrecordfan wrote:Have you seen the new Treasures-style release of SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON in a tin that looks just like the Treasures sets (except the tins are blue?) It's part of the new Wonderful World of Disney Signature Movie Edition that is quietly launching, available through an 800 number only at this point.

My copy came earlier this week - check out the photos:

http://picasaweb.google.com/artisanherb ... 4824528882

With the order came a very nice 16-page booklet about the history of the Disney weekly anthology series from start to finish, 1954 to 2009. The 2010 entry notes the launch of this new DVD line. Here's a link to the booklet I cover I scanned:

http://picasaweb.google.com/artisanherb ... 9778639490

The last part of the booklet contains descriptions about the subscription to this new series. It's similar to the DMC, except there's no minimum number of titles to order. At this point, you also don't choose a title; Disney send a new one every 4-6 weeks. This division of the WDC is listed as the Buena Vista Catalogue Co.

It comes with the booklet, a movie card repro of the film's poster, a certificate, etc., very much like the Treasures sets. The DVDs are repeats of the Vault Disney release, though.

Couldn't help but wonder if the Treasures sets might morph into these kinds of releases. They sure copied the Treasures style for doing this first one - other titles are to follow throughout 2010, according to the booklet and the operator when I ordered.

I wonder if the rest of Swamp Fox/Elfego Baca, Ludwig Von Drake, etc., might get released this way instead of the Treasures way?
Where can I get more info about this?

And yet, AND YET...

They seem to do things that say otherwise. Like possibly kill off 2D animation, again, and end the Treasures. So stupid...

Let's hope they do the right thing and keep Walt Disney's remaining film and television library in circulation.

We must have a tribute to Professor Ludwig VonDrake and the brilliant Paul Frees!

You know that they are NOT going to stop 2D animation again. Not now, not ever.

John Lassetter and company have already stated publicly a gazillion times that 2D animation is back and it's here to stay!

How can the Walt Disney Treasures be considered complete without this (and the other 17 Ludwig shows from Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color)?

Look, I'm sure he's been paying attention. So have I. But just because people are posting it doesn't make it true. Look, they're going to buckle to Lasseter, since he's the Pixar guy and knows all about making successful films. And if he says 2D animation is going to be here to stay, well then I'm sure I'd take his word over anyone else's.

And I also used wording that makes it not set in stone. I said "IF" it is killed off, as in if they do all these things they will destroy the brand. And I'm attacked because of what? that I'm right?

I fully know that until it is an official source it is just hear say, but if any of the "hear say" is true, then once again, "Why dose Disney hate themselves?" Why destroy the brand? Why push crap like The Jonas Brothers (who will most likely fad away in a year or two) and completely disregard everything that made Disney Disney? Isn't that what this post is about, saving the Treasures line? A line of DVD that gives us classic stuff from the Disney "vault" that basically represents the core of what made Disney great?

So my comments reflect my distaste for such directions, not saying they are set in stone, but rather based upon how things are looking the direction they may go, and I'm attacked for that? Really? Ok, what ever floats your boat I guess.

I vote to save the Walt Disney Treasures line! Zorro and Dr. Syn made me so happy I can't wait for more timeless classics from the master's studio! There's still plenty left to see...
