I think we may need to save the Treasures series
After a recent email correspondence with Leonard Maltin, I think that we need to begin another "Save the Treasures" campaign.
I wrote him asking when we would hear about the 2010 treasures and this was his response.
"I have no idea. With the new regime I'm afraid we will not see anymore Treasures."
Leonard
So, I believe if we mobilized the online community at this time, we may be able to make a difference. Otherwise, more "I heart Jonas" releases.

Where's the rest of Elfego Baca and the Swamp Fox?

NOOOOOOO!!! It can't die! Not until we've seen the release of SotS! Come on! I can just see a little blue projection of James Baskett saying "Help me, Obi-Wan Ke-Maltin, you're my only hope!" And now..... who knows?

As far as SOTS goes, the Treasures line isn't the only hope for that film, thank goodness.
Unless the remastering of the shorts and TV shows and whatnot isn't making back its money, then I don't see why Disney doesn't at least finish up what they've started (such as Elfego Baca & The Swamp Fox...and others which escape me now...maybe The Hardy Boys, + more?).

Well, it would be a sensible release, since more people have heard of the film's undeserved reputation than have actually seen it. So, if it was a mainstream release, let's say, the "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Edition," (since that's the only thing familiar from the film for most people), I'll bet a lot of people would probably raise an eyebrow and then walk on by. It would probably do better as a release geared toward fans.blackcauldron85 wrote:As far as SOTS goes, the Treasures line isn't the only hope for that film, thank goodness.

I agree with Margos bout SOTS' troubles with dvd release. Heck if I wasn't familar with the film or the characters, I'd probaly walk past it without glancing.
God dang it Disney keep the Treasures alive, you've got alot of stuff to relase, took a big risk with expanding the line's 2 disc limit to 6 discs, Use the Treasures as a Complete series now.

Huh. Well, so much for my Disney buying. Honestly, this was the only stuff I was reliably spending my money on with this company for the past few years.
I already have copies of all the classic animation and most of the live action that I care about. Anymore, I don't bother with all their re-release sillyness.
So Zorro was the end of the line. Okay then.

I thought the launch of D23 would have sparked a renewed interest in classic Disney among both fans and the company. It seems like a perfect time to continue the Treasures line, not cancel it. I hope that Disney will continue the Treasures line or start a new one such as what they tried with the True Life Adventures. I just completed my Treasures collection, and I was looking forward to what they would release next.

Disneyland Volume 3 (all remaining TV hours about the park including From the Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow and Disneyland Showtime!)

Rarities 2 (with remaining animated shorts and featurettes like It's Tough to Be a Bird)
The Swamp Fox (all episodes)
The Prince and the Pauper (all 3 Wonderful World of Color episodes plus the theatrical version)
Disneyland: Films From Park Attractions (America the Beautiful, Mouseketeer 3-D Jamboree, Story of Oil etc)
Annette 2 (Horsemasters, Escapade in Florence, music sequences)

The new Treasures-style tin release of Swiss Family
Have you seen the new Treasures-style release of SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON in a tin that looks just like the Treasures sets (except the tins are blue?) It's part of the new Wonderful World of Disney Signature Movie Edition that is quietly launching, available through an 800 number only at this point.
My copy came earlier this week - check out the photos:
http://picasaweb.google.com/artisanherb ... 4824528882
With the order came a very nice 16-page booklet about the history of the Disney weekly anthology series from start to finish, 1954 to 2009. The 2010 entry notes the launch of this new DVD line. Here's a link to the booklet I cover I scanned:
http://picasaweb.google.com/artisanherb ... 9778639490
The last part of the booklet contains descriptions about the subscription to this new series. It's similar to the DMC, except there's no minimum number of titles to order. At this point, you also don't choose a title; Disney send a new one every 4-6 weeks. This division of the WDC is listed as the Buena Vista Catalogue Co.
It comes with the booklet, a movie card repro of the film's poster, a certificate, etc., very much like the Treasures sets. The DVDs are repeats of the Vault Disney release, though.
Couldn't help but wonder if the Treasures sets might morph into these kinds of releases. They sure copied the Treasures style for doing this first one - other titles are to follow throughout 2010, according to the booklet and the operator when I ordered.
I wonder if the rest of Swamp Fox/Elfego Baca, Ludwig Von Drake, etc., might get released this way instead of the Treasures way?

Seems unlikely, since this is labelled a "movie collection" (a good idea to direct market these by the way, but I imagine they will be previously released DVDs in a new tin).
For the Walt Disney era shows that have not yet been released or remastered for DVD, we need to keep sending reminders that this material exists and that we want it!

Well, if the sets died with Roy, then all I can say is, thank you, thank you, thank you, Roy Disney, for sharing the joy and entertainment of your father, your uncle, and your co-workers with us. Thank you for the Treasure Sets, in addition to everything else your faimly did for our families.
God bless you, God speed you, and we will all meet up with you some day. In the meantime, those of us who have been collecting the sets from Day 1 have dozens of volumes to enjoy for years to come. It was much more than we expected, perhaps more than we deserved, and I for one will be eternally thankful.

Considering Zorro came out just a few months ago, an Amazon.com sellout of their entire stock at this point is actually very very good. If a year passed and they had not sold out, well that's a horse of a different color. It's obvious at this point that a letter writing/email campaign is in order here.
