I think that Golden Book cover was going for it's own style.

Does anyone think the cover would look great if Mama Odie was in front of Louis, Lawrence was in front of Facilier, and Tiana was a little more in the center (and no quote)? Short characters in front of the tall ones on either side, and then Tiana in the center.

I like the cover accept for Louis being there (unless it was the way I suggested). But I like that they went for new art and a new concept than any we'd seen before for the film.

By the time, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules get re-released, Disney DVDs would probably only consist of the main feature film and all their special features be exclusive to their Blu-ray releases.

I'm quite looking forward to the TPatF deleted scenes! I hope one of them has Naveen singing. I loved his singing in "When We're Human" and I'm disappointed we don't hear him sing, at least, a second time. I also hope one of the deleted scenes involves Facilier and was cut because it's too scary for kids.

Whew! Looks like I picked just the right time to go blu. Just got my first (& second) blu ray players around black Friday & have gone blu (which I said I'd never do but the price was sooooo good). Don't plan on replacing any of my 800 or so dvds (except a few non anamorphic ws & my Hayley Mills fullscreen dvds) but everything I buy new is BLU. P&TF would've driven me over the edge with the sad dvd they're putting out.

I just know the German version, but in this the voice actor of Naveen was singing "Down in New Orleans", too. Who does it in the original? oO

I'm happy we get a commentary at least. If anything signifies Disney treating the movie well, it's certainly a commentary.

This is hopefully going to be the first DVD I buy. It is a very good thing that I am going Blu since the beginning. I don't usually look at the bonus features but maybe I should. You guys are making a big deal about it so I will look. I can't wait for it because Patf is probably in my top 10 favorite DAC.

The press releases on Animated Views and ToonZone offer this description for the feature called "The Making of a Princess" (the full title of which is "Magic in the Bayou: The Making of a Princess"):

"Co-writers and directors John Musker and Ron Clements take a freewheeling, behind-the-scenes look at the making of Disney’s newest animated film as it grows from an initial concept to a lavish animated film set in the enchanting world of New Orleans and the surrounding bayous."

The featurettes seen on the Internet do not have a description other than "featurette." This leads me to believe/hope that "Magic in the Bayou" is going to be a legit making-of doc.

Kind of...lazy. But I've come to expect this from Disney. Not even the "exclusive" Blu-Ray featurettes are exclusive. You can find them everywhere online.

Golden books are almost always intentionally off model. its one of the rare instances where Disney, and every other studio who uses them for that matter, lets them use as much artistic license as they want. within reason of course. it still has to be kid friendly and appealing, but they don't have to follow the same rules as the original copyright owners.

Oh, yes, I know Kyle. Even back during the making of Walt Disney's Cinderella, a woman animator (who worked on Bambi and other films) designed a rather different version of Cinderella for the Golden Book that came out the same year the film did. But it was still clearly Disney's version, as all the Golden Books that take stylistic license with Disney's films are. And I really like that they do that (except when they go a little too far with how different they make them look).

Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Best Buy have listings for "Bayou Boogie: Inspired by The Princess and the Frog," a CD that will be released the same day as the DVD.

I wish there was more of Naveen singing as well ! He is the most musical character in the film (apart from Louis) he's always dancing around and playing his ukulele, yet he only gets a small part in a short song.

But when you get to Princess and the Frog, Never Knew I Needed isn't included in the film at all. I wonder if at one point it was included and they just didn't think it worked with the story or something. In any event, it would have been nice if Naveen had a bit more to sing.

I think it's been said that Ne-Yo wrote "Never Knew I Needed" so it's very unlikely it was a cut song, not to mention that melodically it would stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of the soundtrack's themes.

And actually, "Home on the Range" also used the original song "Wherever the Trail May Lead" for end credits, and "Anytime You Need a Friend" never appeared anywhere else in the film but the end credits since the Alan Menken version only appeared on the CD. I also think "Brother Bear" had an original end credits song, as did "Atlantis". Also while "Hunchback" had Bette Midler's pop cover of "God Help the Outcasts" on the soundtrack, it was never used anywhere in the movie.
