Walt Disney Treasures Wave X Discussion

Do you think, with the departure of Dick Cook and the death of Roy Disney, that there will be another wave of Walt Disney Treasures?

Yes. The line can always continue, even without those people around.

Besides, the line did continue on during the time that Roy had resigned from the company to do his Save Disney campaign.

Anyhow, I hope that Wave X will include things like Disney Rarities Vol. 2 and the complete Mouse Factory series (in two seperate volumes in a similar manner to the Zorro sets).

Since most of the animated material has been covered in the Treasures sets (all that's left really is another Rarities set, more Alice cartoons, and educational shorts), I want stuff like People & Places, more "Spin & Marty" and/or "Hardy Boys", and more "Disneyland" serials ("The Prince and the Pauper", "Texas John Slaughter", "Gallegher", etc.). Tere's also some good one-off "Disneyland" episodes that could be released (like 1970's "Disneyland Showtime").

I'd love to see a theme park focused release(s) in the next wave. There is so much stuff from WDW that would fit perfect in the series.

What about The Jiminy Cricket Im No Fool shorts and the shorts with Scrooge Mcduck and other shorts with Ludwig Von Drake? I guess that would be under Disney Rarities?

My #1 pick would be a Jiminy cricket set. That would really make my year, as he's my favorite Disney character.

I agree that SotS would just be perfect for a Tresures release. I couldn't care less about the live action segments, but I do love the animated parts. I always find it strange when I go to Disney World and see all the SotS merchandise at Splash Mountain. If I were a kid I would be trying to figure out where all these characters come from.

And obviously they need to release the remaining Chip and Dale toons, as well as the Scrooge McDuck one. Find a way!

I would like to see the entire MouseWorks series, but to me that shouldn't be a Treasures set. Just a regular set.

I personally wish they would limit the live action releases to only one set per year. I have little interest in them. But I do think it's cool that they put them out for their fans... just think the animation should be their top priority.

I would say that minus original titles. Some of them are lost some of them I think Disney didn't bother to put back in, but they still exist, and that Fiddling Around/Just Mickey error bothers me. Im not sure about the Alice cartoons some of them are lost but If they have enough Materal they might release those. and the same goes lost Oswalds (would have been included all on the Oswald set in first place) if they turn up some day.

Only thing that is left then is the 3 Chip'n Dales, the 2 Donalds' 1965, 4 Goofys (2 in 1965, 1 in 1987 and 1 in 2007), Plus ca 10-15 one shots that were not on Rarites vol 1, (exluding wartime and educationals as I dont know how many of them were acually animated, then hey they could do live-action short sets if they were live action)

The McDuck short for sure, but The Jiminy Cricket shorts were originally produced for TV. And Von Drake were compaliton episodes of older Theaterical shorts for TV so they should be include in sets of there one, speically if there is enough materal to fill 2 DVD.

Educational Films - I'm No Fool, etc. (although I'm happy to skip "The Story of Mensturation...yes, it's a Disney educational short)

People and Places - worries me that these have been buried since the 70's. Is Disney hiding something? Are they offensive? If not, these are top of the list.

The Complete Chip and Dale - I don't care if many of the shorts have appeared in other volumes, it would be great to have them all in one place. Go ahead and double-dip, Disney. The collection would move units.

Rarities Vol. II - Dad Can I Borrow the Car, It's Tough to Be a Bird, Redux Riding Hood and all the post-Walt shorts. Shoot, throw in Lasseter's CGI test for "Where the Wild Things Are" while you're at it.

The Disney Family Album - The old Disney Channel series from the 80's. Why aren't these out yet? Release them now. Unedited.

Finally, I admire the TV product, and we'd all love to see Gallagher and Tales of Texas John Slaughter, but I agree that TV episodes and specials produced to promote theme parks like EPCOT and the Fantasyland expansion from way back when would be cool to see. I remember seeing "The New Mickey Mouse Club" promoting River Country when I was a very small boy.

I think the series has about another two years of life to it. If they release the above, we're in good shape.

Further Adventures of Spin and Marty
What I Want to Be/Adventure in Dairyland: Could be one set
Clint and Mac/Hardy Boys: The Mystery of the Ghost Farm: Might be able to fit on one set. It'll be close though.
Disney Rarities II.
Educational Set.
Song of the South (If not a regular release then a treasure.)

I wish they would add a promotion that when you buy x amount of the new set of Disney treasures you get a free year of D23 membership. (Since buying all/most of a current set usually cost more than the membership rate.)

With Zorro, treasures seem to include complete seasons. How 'bout complete seasons of

Disneyland
Walt Disney Presents
Wonderful World of Color

It'd be double dipping, for a few episodes, but it would be an amazing collection. Then, all the left-over rarities, the people and places, the dramas, would be available in their original form. It would be amazing.

IM not going to open a facebook page covering this issue since im not American, but if some american bloke is willing to do such thing it would be intrested to see if that can convince the studio. But Mine problem with this situation is that the studio hasn't come clean in the public if the WDT line is dead or not, that is probelm I have with Disney this year. I personally think what is not helping the cause is the limited run of x number of tins per wave if they base that on making a decision on the line. Also it might not have been wise move last year to not include any animated set last year, that alone might have caused animated fans to turn there back on the WDT line if I can read any thing into reaction I saw last year when the set came out.

Well, the "Zorro" sets sold out at double the MSRP, so their release was certainly a success.

But I agree that the MIA animation titles would be the best course for the next Treasures --- and would be enthusiastically welcomed by all Walt Disney fans.

That's why a Ludwig VonDrake "Wonderful World of Color" set should be a no-brainer. And Jiminy Cricket... and Ranger Woodlore... etc.

Well, the "Zorro" sets sold out at double the MSRP, so their release was certainly a success.

Actually they sold out at MSRP or less after 6-7 months at some stores.

Yes, AND the "Zorro" MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) was >>double<< that of all the prior Walt Disney Treasures sets -- and still they sold out at these locations (Season 1 in in mere 3 months, Season 2 in 6) with no general marketing at all. Impressive!
