Video games you're looking forward to in 2010

Post by ajmrowland »

What are the games you're most looking forward to?

For me, only 3 titles have my attention at the moment

1.Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep(PSP)

2.Final Fantasy XIII(for both PS3 and X360)

3. LEGO Harry Potter(all platforms)

Mass Effect 2 360

The first Mass Effect did have its problems - namely repetitive combat and inconsequential side quests. But those problems were minuscule when compared to the greatness of the characters and story. Mass Effect actually had a "hard" Sci-Fi story better than most novels and definitively better than the vast majority of films.

It wasn't just the strong narrative leaving you wanting more, but it actually forced you to make difficult decisions (there's one point where you can't avoid leaving one of your party to die - and you have to choose which one. That's right - one of these characters who you've had literally hours of conversations with and got to know intimately (perhaps, very intimately!) you have to leave to die. Brilliant.

And yes, I'm pretty sure you do have hours of conversations with every member of your party by the end of the game - when I first got on board the Normandy I spent over 25 minutes just talking to Joker, the Pilot.

From the evidence of Dragon Age: Origins Bioware have given these conversations/cut scenes much more movement and momentum too, and also worked harder on how every decision you make affects the narrative, something that's important when you can import your saved game from Mass Effect 1 - so decisions made over 2 years ago can still affect your progress in Mass Effect 2.

Just Cause 2 PS3/360

The first Just Cause is somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me. I'll admit right now it wasn't a 360 level game - the game design was definitely based around the limitations of the PS2/Xbox on which it was also released. But despite that, and despite some limited gameplay options, it was fun. And colourful. Imagine that, playing an action game, filled with beautiful colour, and over the top physics, impossible stunts and... fun! It doesn't seem to happen so much these days does it? Just Cause 2 looks superb from all the previews and its definitely on my "to buy" list.

Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing PS3/360

In some respects, I was disappointed with Sega All-Star Tennis - but in other respects it blew me away. While the main tennis game was mediocre the imagination, style, detail and sheer love that went into the mini-games was fantastic. I still go back every now and then just to play the Chu-Chu Rocket or Puyo Puyo mini-games.

The Racing game looks to improve on most of the Tennis game's shortcomings. There's more character and location diversity (although 7 Sonic characters is still pushing it), the central game looks stronger and we're still going to get loads and loads of Outrun 2 style mini-games with a Sega Universe twist!
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Pokémon: Heart Gold Version and Pokémon: Soul Silver Version. (March 14, 2010 for NDS/NDSi)

You have no idea how much the 12 year old boy (how old I was when Gold and Silver were released) in me is excited to play the remakes of his all time favourite video games.

I totally agree with you. Mass effect is an amazing game. I have the artbook for Mass Effect and hoping there will be an artbook for this one as well.

As for games I'm waiting for:
Sin and Punishment 2
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metriod the other M
new Zelda game

love how they keep updating the old ones. Will be fun.

The only video game I'm really looking forward to is MLB 10: The Show, because I'm getting a PS3 solely for that...well, ok the Blu-Ray player too.

StarCraft II. I've been waiting for over 10 years for this sequel, and soon that dream will come true. All the previews seem to point out that SC2 will turn out to be an even bigger phenomenon than the original SC was, and I can't wait to play it. :)

Tatsunoku vs. Capcom
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War III
Gran Turismo 5
Metroid: Other M
Super Mario Galaxy 2

I'm sure there will be more, but those are my top picks (if they all get released this year).

BTW, mods, why did you move this? Video Games are no less a media than movies.

Super Mario Galaxy 2- I knew it was going to be good when I saw Yoshi. I like the looks of it too, including the new galaxies.

Epic Mickey- I see a lot of awesome potential in this.

I don't own many video games, and I'm not that big of a player, however, I do find myself captivated, over and over again, by Pokemon. I'm super excited about the remakes of Gold and Silver. I'll be buying HeartGold as I played the original Gold back in the day. It was my first video game and I'm really happy that I'll be able to play it again (well, I still have my GB Color, but I haven't replaced the batteries, otherwise, I could play it). Plus, I never liked Lugia anyway, so Ho-Oh all the way! March can't get here fast enough.

Just Final Fantasy XIII. I'm going to put in a pre-order today at either Gamestop or Game Crazy on the way to work.
Dragon, not lizard. I don't do that tongue thing.

I'm really looking forward to:

- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- Metroid: Other M
- Untitled 'Zelda' Wii game
- Sin and Punishment 2
- This one is just wishful thinking, but I hope Nintendo will finally release that Kirby Wii game.

And to some extent Epic Mickey - though I need to see some gameplay first.

I doubt it would release this year. It takes a while for Nintendo to finish Zelda games. I expect it to be announced at a conference like E3 or maybe earlier. Releasing next year is more likely. I love thinking about how awesome it's going to be to swing a sword with smooth motion-plus controls!

I'm hoping they finally have one out for the Wii too, but there has been nothing said about it. All we know is that they are hopefully working on it and might get it out this year or the next. There hasn't been a Kirby game on a home console since the N64 and racing game on the GameCube.

That was my first impression too, but then I found this article on IGN:

I'm really hoping it's still in production. Kirby really 'deserves' his own platformer. It was however - yet again - listed on the official Japanese release schedule list provided by Nintendo, but that's been the case ever since 2005. :(
