I thought of that.... But then I asked myself the same question when I was done. Then I tried making it cheese sauce. But that didn't fit with the syllables. Oh well, some things just weren't meant to work properly. Well, can't say as I didn't try.

And Alice looks particularly thrilled that you've sat next to her, Enigmawing!

I hope this comes out in Europe as well. When the last 2-disc dvd came out in the US, we only got a 1-disc release. I honestly can't wrap my head around the "logic" of Disney's release policy. But anyway, I didn't buy it then. Alice is one of my least favorite Classics. But since I want to complete my Classics collection, I'll pick up this new edition. '
And because I love all kinds of 'Backstage Disney' bonus features, I'm GLAD this doesn't come on BlueRay. Face it: if it did, Disney would have made all the good bonus features "Blue exclusive". On the other hand, I agree in not seeing the point for Disney to push Blue if they're not releasing too many titles.

that's exactly what I was thinking...I only have to say, there really better be a *()*@ commentary on the blu-ray (or the next "really big release") because to my knowledge there hasn't been one yet, and there really should be. The history and post-release-up-to-modern-times reactions towards the film and how it's all changed almost warrant a full feature in and of itself, so why not take advantage of Kathryn Beaumont's availability and do one?BK wrote: 30-Mar-10 Release Alice after it's popularity has risen from Burton's AIW.
00-Oct-10 Tim Burton's 2Disc 2D AIW releases
00-Mar-11 Release 3D Blu-Ray of Burton's AIW 1 year Anniversary (lol) & back up with Blu Ray release of Alice in Wonderland (could even be 3D)
So they get the remaining DVDphiles on board. Blu-Ray enthusiasts who are sore also get it because it has improvements (likely from extra features and the transfer that they've already done for HD, as long as they don't drop anything) Then Burton's comes around and the popularity of AIW is already renowned once again....
Either way, I'll pick this up as I've done with every Alice release because I collect Alice memorabilia, but if it weren't for that I'd be kind of upset over this somewhat recycled release.
I do love the new cover though--very lively.

This is exactly why I want a Blu-ray release. Disney loves pimping out their Cine Explore feature since that's the biggest thing (supplements-wise) BD can do that DVD can't. A Cine-Explore for Alice would kill two birds with one stone since not only would we be getting a (Beaumont?) commentary, but all of the artwork that got lost in the transition from laserdisc to DVD can be showcased here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a 60th Anniversary release next year.mrkateb wrote:I only have to say, there really better be a *()*@ commentary on the blu-ray (or the next "really big release") because to my knowledge there hasn't been one yet, and there really should be. By the way, mrkateb, when are you going to update your Alice's Palace website? I was a big fan of your older Alice site and was sad to see it go. Then when you resurrected it again, I got excited, but it hasn't been updated for quite some time. Now would be as good a time as ever to continue it!

Agreed. On one hand Disney is pushing Blu-ray like it's the only way to go and on the other hand they treat it like it isn't. I wish they would get through their heads that both formats can co-exist very nicely if both were given respectable releases. Most Blu-philes want DVD dead and dead quickly and Disney been putting out most DVD releases as an afterthought and are too wrapped up in trying to repeat history. Blu-ray isn't going to last nearly as long as one would think. You watch, in 6 years a new format is going to be released. If you all think Blu-ray is going to last 10-15+ years before a new format is introduced you're fooling yourselves. There's no "future proofing" with the current rate to technological advancements.Goliath wrote:I hope this comes out in Europe as well. Disney continues to release Blu-rays of all new movies. Older movies, the Blu-ray release isn't guaranteed. But have you ever considered it costs money (and time) to make transfers suitable for Blu-ray?The_Iceflash wrote:Agreed. I have no doubt Disney are just as committed to Blu-ray as they ever have been - in fact, the fact that they're (probably) not content to release sub-standard product onto Blu-ray could be said to show how committed they are, unlike some other studios who have released sub-par Blu-ray discs with lacking audio/visual content. Disney isn't treating Blu-ray like its not important - its doing the exact opposite by making sure all their releases are of optimum quality.
If its true that Disney don't consider the last restoration of Alice In Wonderland good enough for Blu-ray (and I admit that's only my speculation), isn't that good for the format in the long term? And its not as crazy as it sounds - Warners did a whole new restoration for The Wizard of Oz for Blu-ray for such a reason, despite their last DVD restoration being just a few years old.
Look at the various offers Disney is offering on their Blu-ray releases either via multi-buys, coupons or mail-in rebates/upgrades. They're much more agressive than even Sony's. I think its a nonsense to suggest Disney isn't behind Blu-ray. Look at the Toy Story Blu-rays on Amazon
A wonderful deal. Disney are certainly behind Blu-ray. I just wish Disney would do the same in its non-US countries.Amazon wrote:Buy Toy Story (Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo w/ Blu-ray Packaging) [Blu-ray] and get Toy Story 2 (Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo w/ Blu-ray Packaging) [Blu-ray] at an additional $10.00 off Amazon.com's everyday low price.

Any new "physical" method of movie distribution will undoubtably be disc based and compatible with current Blu-ray discs, just as DVD is compatible with Blu-ray players. In fact, given Blu-rays of many more layers and capacity are available now, I tend to think any new format will be simply an evolution of Blu-ray (just as Blu-ray has being evolved to support the 3D format). What's the problem if a future format is backwardly compatible? Again, nobody will be forcing anyone to throw out any of their existing discs (DVDs, Blu-rays, Blu-ray 3D or "New yet to be released" format).Blu-ray isn't going to last nearly as long as one would think. Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
hello Disneykid---I must say again how embarrassed I was to discover you had sent me an email so very long ago about this, and I only discovered it yesterday....(ugh)...I did kind of respond about this "unfortunate affair", but basically things transpired that kept me from being able to devote my full attention to bringing my site back in the manner I was planning---first a (then) new job kept me on the clock very long hours--working on the puter for a living meant that I was less than thrilled about spending my off-work hours doing further web work...then a relative passed, car accident, surgery...various lesser issues in addition, but all combined in a rather smelly continuous chain kind of kept me busy..Disneykid wrote: By the way, mrkateb, when are you going to update your Alice's Palace website? There was also some disappointments which I did mention in the PM I sent you that I'd rather not go into here, but that was a real blow to my spirits. That experience coupled with a frustrating go with the new CMS tool I tried to incorporate left me pretty annoyed with the whole prospect and I kind of gave up on it.
BUT, you are ever so correct---now would really be the perfect time to cast the past and move forward---I shall think about this.
do send me any suggestions though, or let me know if there's any particular aspect or type of info you'd like to see stuff put up about, I'll try to cover as much as I can. I do not intend to do much over the Burton version, other than maybe general comparisons or something, I'll still be focusing strictly on the original...
dare I embarrass myself again in shooting for a launch by the DVD release date?

I don't think it's too optimistic to have the Un-Anniversary release date as your site launch date. You already have the template, and a lot of the content can be ported over from both your old Alice site and your flickr account. It's mostly a matter of working through the CMS crap and typing up new essays/info where needed. If worse comes to worst, then extend the launch date till July for Alice's anniversary,

well---yes...you're right in that the March date is unrealistic, although I'd be happy to just have the planned areas open and browseable, even if I didn't have 100% of the content ready to go...Just getting past the various issues and all would be a major boost of encouragement etc.
Sadly though, nothing from my old site exists in a form that would be easy to port over. The computer I had created all of that on is in dire straights (I started working on the site with a 1995 Packard Bell, made backups on floppies the location of which is now questionable) and then some of the old gallery photos might be still accessible if I were able to successfully boot my second machine, which was a Windows 98 thing...
I was supposed to have some kind of site backup through Geocities, but at the point where I discovered the site went down, the backup service/option did not work correctly and I was informed that several of the "neighborhoods" archives were completely trashed, so my site was pretty much obliterated I guess.
I will see what I can do over this next week...I'll check out your email (haven't checked it yet, I'll do so now) and then reply back to ya...
thanks for the interest, sincerely...I'm flattered that someone remembers it.

Well there is a report on the bluray forums that Alice in Wonderland is coming to bluray in April in Italy as a 2BR +1 DVD package.
Most probably a misunderstanding between peoples of different languages I suspect but the poster claims that the source site has not reported false info.
Then again, we all know though a site has never posted false info before doesn't mean they should be trusted in any way either.
Especially with Disney releases.

Guys, just some heads up: Disney Brazil just announced the release of Alice in Wonderland: Un-Anniversary Edition on BLU-RAY for February, 2011. Yes, that's right, 2011. But at least we know it's coming, sooner or later! And, maybe in the US, we might see it this year, alongside Burton's edition on BD! Let's hope! Since I import almost all my Disney BD's from the US, the sooner the better!

Well, this news actually are from my brazilian website:
http://www.animatoons.com.br/alice-no-p ... no-brasil/
I think that in United States, the DVD will come to join Tim Burton's film in its release in theathers, this march, and the Blu-Ray will be released with the new film's release in home video.
Alice isn't THAT film, but I don't think it's as underaprecciated as THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE or OLIVER AND COMPANY, that had new editions only on Disney DVD.
