That would be trippy to be able to recognize places you've been to in an animated film! Yeah, I am curious to get into Gunsmith Cats mainly because of the little blonde, ha.

Cream Lemon sounds interesting. I'd like to look into it, though I wonder if it'd be too soft compared to modern hentai, ha. I wonder what the character designs are like too. Sometimes, Anime veers away from that cutesey, big-eyed style (and that earlier stuff sometimes is not deep into it either), yet that cutesiness is really the appeal for me, especially with hentai. And I always wondered if Cutey Honey was hentai, ha. I've wondered that about Wedding Peach too. I must say, when I look at Anime DVD covers I often am at a loss to whether I'm looking at Hentai or not, ha, even at stores I'm sure don't sell Hentai.

I don't know much about Peach Girl, but I remember when the manga started coming out here in English and I wondered if I should dabble in it, ha. But I always thought I should get more into Sailor Moon before dabbling in other stuff (which I never had the cash to really do, going full-way into Sailor Moon, but it is still a mission of mine as I still consider myself an extreme fan).

Most anime has a rating on it now, stuff like OT (Older Teens) M (Mature), AO (Adults Only,) etc., or an age rating (13+, 16+, 18+, and so on.) Check the box, I think 99% of all hentai is going to say "Absolutely Not For Children" on it.

On a side note, I really HATE it when they slap ugly Porn Stars all over the boxes, and use them for the voices. I watch hentai with the subtitles on, just like I do with non-hentai shows.

As far as Cream Lemon goes, I heard that the third episode of Project A-Ko (Cinderella Rhapsody) was originally supposed to be a Cream Lemon show, I don't know if they meant with the A-Ko characters, or just with generic characters.

Peach Girl was an interesting manga, I haven't seen the show yet, although some of the Best Buys had them on the 50% clearance.

I suggest getting the manga instead as the only Gunsmithcats anime is a short OVA which is not that great. The Blonde is Minnie-May, 17 yr old former whore. Now a bomb maniac.

Those not aware, First run of Gunsmith cats series is done in manga now Sonada is doing a second series call Gunsmith Cats Burst. both series is availble in english by Dark Horse comic.

Okay folks, I have a question about Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I've long had a crush on Asuka, so I always wanted to see this show. Well, with the 50 percent off deal (that I believe just ended) at Best buy, I snagged the Platinum collection (that Holiday Special Edition one). However, I have read up on it a little too, and I'm confused about what all else I need to get to truly have all the NGE essentials out there. As I understand it, there is the show I bought, plus two movies. Is there anything else? What are these 0:1, 0:2, etc... DVDs out there and how many are they? Are they new/original material I would want, or just a re-edit of the show or something? Can anyone enlighten me? Much appreciated if you can.

I don't actually own the series, so take all this with a grain of salt, but looking at DVDAF, I can sort some of them out.

As far as I know, the box you have has the complete TV show, including the director's cuts on the final 6? episodes...

You still need the two movies: Death & Rebirth, and The End of Evangelion. I would suggest getting those soon, as it appears they are both out of print.

The other things are just various repackagings of the TV show.
The first version was the individual discs: vols. 1-8 (or 0:1, 0:2, etc.)
Then, the Perfect Collection, just putting those volumes in a box.
Next was the 2 directors cut DVDs of the final episodes.
After that came the Platinum Collection individual discs (7 volumes, this time.) - I'm not sure if the last episodes were the director's cut or not.
There was a Platinum Edition Complete Collection, and then a Platinum Perfect Collection (in a metal tin?)
Finally, there came your Holiday Special.

According to reviews at Amazon, people prefer the Platinum Edition Complete collection, because it was individual slim cases instead of a brick, and the price was better. Of course, if you picked up the Holiday special for 50% off, then that's probably a moot point! :P

Thanks a lot! I thought I had read somewhere that the 0:1, 0:2, etc... stuff was a reimagining of the show or something, but I was rather unclear about it. I'll try to find those two movies as soon as I can.

Oh yea you must be thinking of the new movies that Gianax is making. 0:1 Your Not Alone is the first movie and it has been out in Japan for while. Funimation recently grabbed it for liscense.

The second movie of the 4 that going to be made will be out in Japan theaters this June.

So yes those 4 new movies will be retelling of the series in a different perspective.

As for the two movies from 90's, Death and Rebuild is more of a recap movie. End of Evangelion is the "real" movie

Thanks. Well, as long as the other film isn't a re-editing of old animation, then I'd like it too, but good to know. Interesting about the new films.

Whoops, sorry about my misinformation...

I had thought the original releases of the series had volume numbers like 0:1...

Hmm, after looking at the large pictures on DVDAF, they ARE called that... Collection 0:1, 0:2, etc.

I guess they are sticking with the theme.

Anime/Manga

Post by Disney Duster »

I just wanted to come in and apologize especially to Super Aurora for being harsh on the anime and manga styles.

You could tell those Berserk guys apart, and maybe I still think with Disney you can tell characters apart just a little bit better (if drawn as they were in their films), but just a little bit.

I guess with Disney because they go a little more realistic (espeically the older films), I guss I feel you can easier tell the difference because they aren't as stylized as anime. If characters are trying to fit a style, they will all have similar looks. I mean in Sleeping Beauty a lot of characters had similar looks to each other.

But you can still tell a difference in anime and manga and it has its own really good, artful style, and Disney has theirs, and I just like Disney's better. Yes, I personally think its better, but that is just my opinion. I usually don't say that, but this time I think that's how it is. So yea, two different, really good, really artful styles, and you can tell a difference, if its good, like Berserk.

I think it's fascinating to see where American and Japanese animation differs. I mean, basically, Tezuka (basically the grandfather of modern anime) used lots of early Fleischer and Disney cartoons for inspiration. You can even see the pie-eyed styles in his Astro Boy. But, while American animation took that and gradually made it more realistic, the Japanese took the same style and gradually exaggerated the stylization even further. It's so interesting that the same source style could have such different-looking descendants!

Anyone seen Space Battleship Yamato? A World War II battleship lying on the drained ocean is restored into a starship sent to get a device needed to restore earth's environment while fighting the bad guys that wrecked earth.

I like mostly space stuff and giant robots.

Battle of the Planets - A heavily watered down version of Gatchaman about five orphans in bird costumes fighting evil terrorists on earth whilie in BOTP the attacks come from space.

Beast King Golion - Anime about five robot lions which merege into a giant robot. It was converted into lion voltron.

Robotech three anime series made into a generational story Macroos ,Southern Cross , and Mospeda. Macross tends to get all the attention of Robotech fans.

Dairugger xv - space explorers fight enemies with a giant robot made of fifth teen vehicles. Was turned into Vehicle Voltron.
