Alice in Wonderland Special Un-Anniversary Edition DVD

Post by tlc38tlc38 »

Why-oh-why is Disney releasing just the DVD version of this? Where's the Blu-ray???

The Alice in Wonderland 2-disc special un-anniversary edition to be released on DVD 3/30/10.

And just like the Lilo and Stitch Big Wave Edition, another missed opportunity.

What do you guys think of the cover. I kind of like it...I don't know why, but I think the characters aren't as off-model as recent Disney DVDs.

And I'm very surprised about how its oly being released as a DVD. I judt don't understand Disney. For somethings they push the bluray onto us, whereas for other things they don't even make bluray editions :x .

I guess if the animated classic isn't under the Diamond banner or the Platinum banner (like Dumbo), it doesn't get a Blu release.

Right along with Mary Poppins and Lilo and Stitch- a missed opportunity.

Dumbo isn't under any banner. It's just being released as a special edition.

Didn't see this coming. Well, yes I sort of did - but am I sticking to my guns and ignoring this release.

Double-dipped on Mary Poppins and regretted it.
Stuck to my guns and didn't double-dip on Lilo & Stitch and sometimes wonder if I should pick it up, even now.

I will wait for the Blu-ray. My Masterpiece Edition can hold me until then.

Cover is just OK for me. Edited to say that I do like the edition name. The Un-Anniversary edition is pretty clever, and I like the gimmick.

Oh, oops...! But I'm not wrong in thinking the release was first announced as a Platinum, correct? Disney DVD news just all runs together at a certain point.

Alice in Wonderland: Special Un-Anniversary Edition

Post by Disney Duster »

Well, I agree this should be on Blu-ray, too, and have all the bonus features Disneykid mentioned should be on it.

As for the cover, I like it a lot, though I liked the older Masterpiece Edition one better, and I liked the old purple logo better, too, but this one is still really great, and rather creative and true to the film.

BUT the cover would be best with Alice in her red chair in the center, which would not just make sense for her own movie, but be accurate to where she sat in the movie.

BUT I think they put the Mad Hatter in the middle...because Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter has also taken the focus in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland! Disney and their obvious tricks to hype and promote other films!!!

I am happy about this release, but hopefully it will have more than just the new special features on the main page. Hopefully the rest of the features from the laserdisc get ported over, otherwise, I will probably just stay with my Masterpeice edition. Plus, the cover art just doesnt do it for me.

Isn't that the truth. Disney push, push, pushes blu ray and 90% of their releases don't have a blu ray option. :?

First, it looks like all they've done is repackaged the old Masterpiece Edition in a (slightly) new cover. Also, they should have it come day and date with the Blu-ray/ DVD of the new Tim Burton version (July/ August timeframe?), then they could have had more time to prep a Blu-ray release and also wouldn't have to put Great Mouse Detective off to the mystery abyss that is Disney release dates.

Meh. Crappy cover art, dreadful "edition" name (the fact that Disney is spoofing their own cringe-making tendency to celebrate anniversaries is even more cringe-making), potential further loss of good features (the fact that the Masterpiece Edition left off stuff is bad enough already), general lack of effort (the fact that no Blu-Ray is coming out says something), generally not very good.

The two new features don't seem too bad, mind you.

So everything from the original 2-Disc Masterpiece Edition is going to be ported over and they're adding two new bonus features? Hmm...

I really do love the cover though. Reminds me of the VHS cover in some way.

The new features seem pretty cool, but I think I'm just going to stick with my Masterpiece Edition.

I just find it amusing that, for once, they're right! This year is Alice in Wonderland's un-anniversary! :D (Of course it would have been funnier had they waited until next year to release it, which actually is the film's 60th anniversary, because then they would still keep their reputations for seeming to forget which year their films were released in when making "anniversary" DVD editions.) :P

Why not re-release this when the Tim Burton version comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray? And where is the Blu-Ray version? Disney is starting to piss me off!!

I really doubt the original was going to be release on DVD again to promote the remake, but boy was I surprised! "Special U-Annivesray Edition"? That's hilarious!

It could be that a blu-ray version will be released around the time Tim Burton's comes out, but I wouldn't count on it. This release is ridiculous. It was obvious it was going to come, but to release it without a blu is stupid. On top of that I think the cover art is horribly over-crowded and yet simple looking. Its just nothing special at all. I'll stick with my ME for sure. I'm also very put off by the fact that TGMD has now been delayed because of this BS release .

I never finished my DVD collection so I'm fine with that and I'm glad I waited for a two-disc. I'm just disappointed with the cover, the last one was so pretty.Wasn't this gonna be a Platinum?
