All Fantasia boxsets I've come across are ridiculously expensive and Disney's obnoxious push of Blu-ray and the overwhelming amount of Blu-ray fanboys/fangirls here is beyond ridiculous. There's no way I'm owning any BD's unless someone buys all the equipment and every release I want (including future releases). Otherwise it's not happening. I put too much time, energy, and money into Disney DVD's the past few years to have it become 'outdated crap' in the eyes of others just a few years later. I finally get a decent Disney collection going after years of not being able to and it essentially needs to be upgraded to stay decent. The trailer said "Diamond Editions", as in plural. So, are they separate releases? Or will they be bundled together? Do we already know this information and I just forgot? What about Fantasia World- will that be a separate release? If the other 2 movies are bundled together, then surely this will be part of it, but I wonder if F & F2000 are separate releases, then could Fantasia World really be a separate disc? I'm not planning on buying the new F & F2000 DVDs (and definitely not Blu-rays), since I'm happy with the ones I have, but if they're unedited and on DVD, I'd buy them, but I'd buy Fantasia World if it's a separate disc. I bought the Anthology bonus disc by itself online, so if Fantasia World is its own separate disc but not sold separately, I'd probably just try to find a copy online, I guess.

Usally when a trailer of a DVD or Blu Ray hits on-line, or is on DVD or Blu-Ray, what is the time period of that movie of the trailer to hit stores?

You're definitely right about that.... I wanted it badly enough to save up for it, though. You can get them used for about $75. I paid $70 for mine, but, again, it came in a fairly wretched condition. I'm not sure how much they cost new, but I'm sure it's considerably more.

After watching the trailer, I think this is what will happen:

- Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will be released only to Blu-Ray and not DVD. It will not be released as a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack. In the same way that Fantasia was only released on DVD back in 2000 whereas Fantasia 2000 was released on video and DVD. Disney did this back then to get more people to switch over from video to DVD. Now Disney is doing the same thing by getting more Disney fans and families to switch over to Blu-Ray. So I believe Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and Fantasia World will be released only on Blu-Ray.

- The reason that Disney is not posting this trailer on every DVD/Blu-Ray coming out is because Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 is not a film that can be easily targeted to young children. If you remember, the original Fantasia didn't get a trailer for its release on DVD. And if you watched the original Fantasia DVD, you see there are no trailers for others films before you get to the main menu.

- I believe that even though Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 are part of the Diamond Collection, they will be released in November after Beauty and the Beast's release in October. Why? Well there probably won't be any Walt Disney Treasure sets released this year. So to make up for the absense, Disney will release the Fantasia films only on Blu-Ray in early or mid November. In 2011, we might see old Walt Disney Treasure sets return but only on Blu-Ray and possibly under a new name. Remember that the Walt Disney Treasures started in 2001, one year after Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 were released on DVD.

And that's my opinion on the matter.
The trailer for 'Dumbo' didn't say "DVD" either and we're getting it...

If you like DVD's that's cool. If you prefer Blu's that's cool as well. Personally, I will only buy DVD's if I can't get the content on Blu. My Treasures collection is complete, as none of them can be found on Blu.

As for "elitists" the pendulum swings both ways. I'm tired of people claiming that Disney should stop their Blu-ray support because of all the money they gave them for DVD's. Buy what you want. Disney is a corporation. They want your money. I'll give them mine because they make some of the best transfers (DVD *and* Blu) on the market.

Yet most of the times to see trailers, you have to go to special features. I haven't seen a movie, where th BatB trailer just pops up when you put in the Bluray/DVD. Disney wouldn't just stop advertisements because it doesn't appeal to children. No matter how bad the marketing team is, I don't think they wouldn't include the trailer for that. I still think that BatB will come out first (although I would like Fantasia first). But we'll see CES is this week.

Yes, they have to say something at CES. If Dumbo is coming out at the rumored February 2nd date (less then 1 month away), you'd think they would let us know. Lets hope they lock down the dates for Dumbo, Fantasia, and Beauty and the Beast. Lets also hope its all good news.

I hope that "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000" will both be released on DVD. Yet, I am like some of the others on this board in thinking that they may only be released on Blu-Ray. Disney has been trying to get to the point of releasing films only on Blu-Ray. They have been doing combo packs and releasing films separately on DVD and Blu-Ray for quite a while. So, they have to start somewhere and this may be the release to get it started. After all, look at all of the other formats that have come and gone [i.e. BETA, VHS, CED, etc.].

Well, Fantasia wasn't re-released on VHS when it came to DVD. 10 years later, I don't expect Disney to follow that model and go Blu-Ray only and ignore DVD for the 70th annivesary, but stranger things have happened.

Seeing as how I had a VHS and Laserdisc player in Fall 1991 (when Fantasia came to home video on both laseridsc and VHS formats), a DVD player in Fall 2001 (when Fantasia came to home video DVD only), and now a Blu-Ray player in 2010, I'm not concerned.

The trailer for Dumbo just said it was coming out in "Spring 2010". The trailer for Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 said it was "Coming Soon to Disney Blu-Ray, Limited Time Only". The trailer for Dumbo didn't say anything about Dumbo being released for DVD/Blu-Ray or for Blu-Ray only. The fact that the Fantasia trailer says "Coming Soon to Disney Blu-Ray" raises my belief that the Fantasia films will only be released on Blu-Ray without the bonus DVD of the film.

Because the Diamond Editions aren't being released on DVD. Snow White's new DVD wasn't a Diamond Edition. The trailer was advertising a Diamond Edition specifically.

We got to remember though that in 2000 DVD was at a further place consumer-wise than Blu-ray is now. It would be pretty ballsy of Disney to start releasing films on Blu-ray only now when it isn't even close to the point where Blu-ray only releases could happen. Some of you may have your hopes way too high in that Blu-ray is now in that position but that is not the case. DVD still has the high majority of consumers and will continue to do so for a long time. Everyone's fooling themselves if they think Fantasia and Fantasia 2000's market is so small that only Blu-ray consumers would appreciate it. Both movies were pulled from the market in 2004. 2004! It would be naive to think that everyone who wanted it on DVD back then have it and don't want it on DVD now. Even though DVD was more advanced consumer-wise in 2000, I don't think it would be fair at all to say that the market was viable enough for Fantasia or Fantasia 2000 to have been successful DVD releases. I and many others' first home video experience with Fantasia 2000 was on VHS and NOT on DVD. In my opinion, Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 had not reached their full potential market-wise on DVD and if they choose to repeat history (In which everyone here seems to be compulsively for..) I don't think it will do that well and it wouldn't be because of it's "limited market" in they way you all would think.

Why do people keep insisting on saying that? Can you remember the year 2000? Can you remember how even than VHS was overwhelmingly more popular than DVD? Just like how now everyone has at least one DVD player, then everyone had a VHS player and it was still the preferred consumer choice.

According to this article ( http://research.globalthoughtz.com/inde ... ting-2010/ )
According to the Digital Entertainment Group, the total number of Blu-ray Disc playback had reached 9.6 million by the end of 2008.
(three years total: 2006, 2007 and 2008)

According to TheDigitalBits ( http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/ ... sales.html ) at the end of DVDs first three years the sales were 5.4m (the yearly totals for 1997, 1998 and 1999 on their chart). While these don't include PS2 DVD players I doubt the DEG totals do because according to Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStatio ... tion_costs ) as of August 18th 2009 around (but over) 9m PS3 consoles had been sold in the US. No way have only approximately 1m PS3 players been sold in 2009.

So it would appear from these crude numbers Blu-ray is already almost twice as popular as Blu-ray was at a similar time in its life. It's impossible to do a proper comparison from these figures as they only show year end sales in both cases, but I'm pretty sure come November 2010 there'll be a lot more Blu-ray players in the US than there was DVD players in November 2000 - the release of the Fantasia Anthology on DVD.

Edit: Seems by Detective work was unneeded - I've just found this:
http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-news/ ... mbers.html
According to the consulting firm Futuresource, Blu-ray player sales are ahead of where DVD player sales were at the same point in the lifecycle. Blu-ray has existed for consumer purchase for around four years now, and despite initially slow sales and an unfortunate economic condition, the format is doing well. Jim Bottoms, managing director of Futuresource, says that the lead Blu-ray have is impressive, but that it will never match the overall acceptance of DVD.
As for Blu-ray not matching DVD - I don't think anyone here, no matter how keen they are to support Blu-ray thinks otherwise. If DVD was launched now, it wouldn't outsell DVD! There's so many more options now for viewing films: wider cable and satellite channels, VoD, X-Box and PS3 movie downloads, internet website streaming sites etc.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I remember having Fantasia 2000 and The Emperor's New Groove on VHS. My parents got DVD's but they continued to get the kids VHS. I think this is what will happen with Blu-ray, except the parents are getting the kids DVD free when they buy their Blu-ray.

As for the numbers, yeah, Blu-ray is doing real well. What's even more impressive is the quality/format difference isn't as huge a leap as VHS to DVD and its happening in the middle of a recession. You have to give Blu-ray props for that.

See, the thing it... it is. It's an even bigger leap. It was perhaps not as impressive to me as when I first saw a DVD after viewing only VHS tapes, but the fact remains it's still 1020 lines of resolution. VHS had 250 to DVD's (at most) 500. It may not be as noticeable depending how big of a screen you have, but it's there nonetheless.
