Favorite Disney Animated Classic from the 70s?

Based on the success of the "Disney 2000 Decade Poll", I thought it would be a cool idea to do these polls for the different Disney decades. Vote for which film you liked the most from each decade and feel free to rank the others in order from most liked to most disliked.

Love 'em all, as usual, but I always felt the Aristocats' story lacked something, and I always liked Rescuers Down Under better than the original. I am somewhat tempted to select Robin Hood, as I always loved that one and it's one of the ones I most strongly remember loving as a kid, but I never though of Pooh as a seventies film because I grew up with it in the separate featurettes... However, these days that I know it was released as a 70's feature, if it's going to be in the running, I have to go with Pooh. It's a masterpiece.

Bit difficult to choose between "The Aristocats" and "The Rescuers". Choose the first becuase I think Ithas better songs. But overaal this is not a favourite decade of mine.

I think that The Rescuers was the strongest story from this decade, and I just love the premise. Poor little Penny! I really sympathize with her, and I love seeing the beginning of Bianca and Bernard's romance (which is nicely completed by their engagement at the end of The Rescuers Down Under). It's the one that makes me just feel the most from the 70s, if that makes any sense.

Winnie the Pooh is a classic! I love its simplicity and charm, but its episodic nature makes it weaker than The Rescuers, IMO.

As for The Aristocats and Robin Hood.... I like them about the same. I had to give it to those Aristocats though, mostly because I like the music better (except for Robin Hood's "Phony King of England!") and the fact that Thomas O'Malley and Duchess had more lovely little romantic moments and nice touches to the development of their relationship than Robin and Marian.

I changed my list a little since last time. I remember enjoying the 70's films as a kid, and The Aristocats and Robin Hood were my top favorites of that group. The Rescuers is pretty fun too as well.

[Disney's Divinity]

1. The Rescuers ~ Easily the best, though it has its share of flaws. Mostly to do with Medusa, who doesn't quite live up to her role for me.
2. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ~ It's hard to watch this at times, just because I grew up with the modern voices which causes Pooh and Rabbit to sound really weird to me here. Still, this movie was pretty good for what it was. I've watched other Pooh-related films/shows with more charm though.
3. Robin Hood ~ Even though the character designs are copied, I've always found that part fairly endearing--it reminds me of how Mickey and the others kind of play different roles at times; it makes the characters feel more classic to me for some reason. Mostly, Robin Hood doesn't do that much for me, personally. It's kind of a ho-hum experience. Though Lady Cluck is hilarious.
4. The Aristocats ~ This is in the same league as Hood, except even less endearing. Duchess and O'Malley were my favorite part of the film. And the lawyer is pretty entertaining. But the rest of the film is full of bland moments, annoying characters, and forgettable music (even "Everbody Wants To Be A Cat" fails to me, though for some reason that one's become a Disney classic).

Bedknobs and Broomsticks would be number 1, but I wanted to leave my list exclusively animated. Overall, very weak decade.

I'd like to thank the people who write more than just a list. I enjoy reading the motivations behind the choices.

For me, it's easy to pick my favorite, which is also the best of the 1970's. It shouldn't surprise anyone that it's The Rescuers. It's just one of the most sincere, real, touching Disney-films of all time. With its heart and its charm, it never fails to impress me. Bernard and Bianca are one of the best Disney couples. Their relationship is build up so gradually and naturally, through the bonding they go through in this great adventure. You won't see this subtle character development in any other Disney-film. Margos is also right about Penny: if you don't feel for her, your heart must be made out of stone. I will never forget that scène where Medusa says to her: "What makes you think anybody would want a homely little girl like you?", after which we see Penny bow her head and a tear roll over her cheeck. That will stick with me forever.

I'm surprised at how underrated the music is. Yes, the film is not a Broadway musical, but that doesn't mean the music isn't great. The songs are sung off-screen, in a very touching manner by Shelby Flint, who has a beautiful singing voice. She knows exactly how to capture the spirit that's needed for the particular songs; they come at exactly the right the time in the film. Just look at that very first scène: can anybody tell me they *don't* get the goosebumps when that door is slowly opening, Penny is coming out in the dark and throwing her bottle away, after which 'The journey' begings to play? Compared to this, the sequel is cold and lifeless.

I like them all, except The Aristocats. Dull story, dull characters, too much rehashing of previous films' storylines, too many needless slapstick used as filler.

Robin Hood has been a favorite since my childhood and I believe it's the Disney-film I've seen most often. Again, I must credit the terrific Dutch voice cast (e.g. adding a lot of jokes that weren't in the original version).

1. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - I've always been a fan and the episodic nature of this movie makes it a favorite of mine.
2. The Aristocats - My daughters and I like to watch this one together.
3. The Rescuers - I haven't watched this in a long time and I don't own it on DVD yet either. There are still too many movies that Disney needs to put out in a decent release.
4. Robin Hood - I like Whistle Stop and the movie, for me, goes down hill from there.

Rescuers is a great movie for me, it's heartwarming and sad and has sweet music.
