Feel I need to say something about the whole Blu-ray thing Disney's been messing up lately. As someone who prefers Blu-ray, I still feel I need to say somethings:
- DVD and Blu-ray should be seen as equal options, no preference for one or the other. The studios should give DVD the same quality transfers (obviously downgraded from 1080p to 480p but still from the same great transfer), and the only bonus material that should be Blu-ray only are the stuff that can't be physically done with DVD (ie. BD-Live, etc.)
- Combo Packs are good, but need some work (and Disney seems to be the worst for this). The price point is still a sticky issue, I think the BD/ DVD combo sets should be more comparable to DVD prices, not BD ones (ie. Up had a $16 difference between DVD and BD prices, while Harry Potter had a $2 gap). There should be more options, and neither DVD or BD fans should feel left out, no 2 month release gaps or Combo pack only releases, why not have 3 versions come day and date - DVD only, BD only and BD/ DVD combos, give people more options. Also combo sets should have different "format neutral" casing, so people don't see it as a Blu-ray or a DVD but as something different.
So, those are a few things I think of Blu-ray, coming from a Blu-ray geek like myself. Hopefully Disney listens to us, especially for this release.

I think the combo packs are great for these vaulted titles and 2-3 years from now, when people finally decide to upgrade to Blu, they'll be glad they bought the combo packs as they'd be paying through the roof for the Blu-ray titles that have been vaulted on eBay if they just got the DVDs (long sentence).

I personally find the whole Digital Copy thing is ridiculous. Before it started when studios started releasing a two-disc special edition and a single-disc bare bones edition, which is infuriating because why pay more for "bonus" features? Then, with Digital Copy editions, the second edition is devoted to the Copy, while the extra bonus features are placed on the first disc, showing that they could easily fit all of those in the regular one-disc edition. Apparently, Disney pulled that trick with Up.

I need the Fantasia movies for my DVD collection! I may get the anthology set instead of waiting for the re-release.
Yeah, the Digital Copy discs are dumb. It is useful for, what, a year after the DVD it came with is released then it sits in the case as nothing more than a dud.estefan wrote:I personally find the whole Digital Copy thing is ridiculous. I realised even more how pointless they are, when I got the single-disc edition of The Dark Knight the other day and there was a slip inside to get a digital copy simply by typing a code on the official Warner Brothers website. So, they don't even need the extra disc in the first place.Sky Syndrome wrote: Yeah, the Digital Copy discs are dumb. I wonder if the edited parts of Fantasia will be part of the park....Avaitor wrote:So am I the only one who came up with the brilliant marketing idea for Disney World to make the best out of the upcoming Fantasia World by turning DW into Fantasia World? They'll probably sell the Diamond Editions under the giant Sorcerer's Apprentice hat in the middle of Disney-MGM Studios. Quite frankly, I hate the location of that paper mache hat blocking the beautiful Chinese Theater but maybe now it will have a purpose (you know, besides being the worlds largest pin shop).Avaitor wrote:So am I the only one who came up with the brilliant marketing idea for Disney World to make the best out of the upcoming Fantasia World by turning DW into Fantasia World? Curse you, disc rot! My diabolical scheme to beat Disney's Blu-ray push has been temporarily thwarted.... My anthology set arrived, and was virtually unwatchable.
Luckily, I will be getting a replacement.... I'm not letting the Blus win!

This makes it more confusing, from dvdfile
A confirmed release date is still up in the air, but it's looking like mid-October will bring the Buena Vista Blu-ray Disc releases of Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 and Fantasia World. We'll let you know when full specs and official release dates come our way....

Never heard of the web-site. Thebits is the best site for all things movies, and this site for all things Disney movie. Wait a few days, and I think we will have everything sorted out. Oct is for BatB. Late April or May is Fantasia. Releasing this any later is a bad move by Disney, and it would mean no BatB this year.

I hope note. First it was March, then May, and now October. It's weird that Disney is letting this confusion happen in the first place. I wish they'd just confirm Fantasia and Beauty and the Beast's release dates.steven132 wrote:This makes it more confusing, from dvdfile

But what I don't understand is that we see the BatB trailer way more than we see the Fantasia one. The one for BatB has been released on almost every Disney Bluray/DVD that has come out recently. So I actually think that BatB will come out first. I would rather Fantasia for now since I haven't seen it (I know bad Disney fan)...

I hope and think the confusion will end by the end of this week. C.E.S. starts on Thursday so we shall see!!jpanimation wrote:I hope note. First it was March, then May, and now October. I have a bad feeling that your right in your assumption. What keeps the little hope I have alive that Fantasia will come first is that both trailers say "coming soon" with no release date specified.Babaloo wrote:But what I don't understand is that we see the BatB trailer way more than we see the Fantasia one. First of all, thanks to the person who posted the trailer on YouTube. It looks really good. I'm also excited for Fantasia World.
After watching the trailer, I think this is what will happen:
- Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will be released only to Blu-Ray and not DVD. It will not be released as a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack. In the same way that Fantasia was only released on DVD back in 2000 whereas Fantasia 2000 was released on video and DVD. Disney did this back then to get more people to switch over from video to DVD. Now Disney is doing the same thing by getting more Disney fans and families to switch over to Blu-Ray. So I believe Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and Fantasia World will be released only on Blu-Ray.
- The reason that Disney is not posting this trailer on every DVD/Blu-Ray coming out is because Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 is not a film that can be easily targeted to young children. If you remember, the original Fantasia didn't get a trailer for its release on DVD. And if you watched the original Fantasia DVD, you see there are no trailers for others films before you get to the main menu.
- I believe that even though Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 are part of the Diamond Collection, they will be released in November after Beauty and the Beast's release in October. Why? Well there probably won't be any Walt Disney Treasure sets released this year. So to make up for the absense, Disney will release the Fantasia films only on Blu-Ray in early or mid November. In 2011, we might see old Walt Disney Treasure sets return but only on Blu-Ray and possibly under a new name. Remember that the Walt Disney Treasures started in 2001, one year after Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 were released on DVD.
And that's my opinion on the matter.
